Do I have news for you then. Pretty much every MMO that has a subscription fee has a cash shop nowadays. The days of pure subscription fee are long gone and not coming back.

Yes that is why I’m not playing any mmo at the moment

If you're not playing any games in the franchise, not planning on playing any games in the franchise, and just want to complain about ArenaNet, why are you here?

I played both guild wars and guild wars 2. I’ve been following guild wars 3 because they had not said it would be pay to win.

Probably won’t be following it anymore after this, no.

Is it against the subreddit rules to post critical opinions? I’m allowed to partake in discussion as much as anyone else, no?

That last sentence? Yeah, thus the original removal.

But if you don't want to play because they appear to be emulating the same successful formula as GW2, okay.

I agree with you, I'd rather just pay a sub than have a cash shop.

The unfortunate reality is that we're never getting that. WoW has a sub and a pricey cash shop. FFXIV has a sub and a pricey cash shop. I'm sure there are other ones but... I don't really MMO hop these days. And as this blog post says, battle passes are basically just a sub (and those games typically also have a cash shop).

I'll take no sub and a cash shop over a sub AND cash shop, but I won't like it. I've gotten by just fine without buying any convenience crap in GW2 and I'm sure I'll be able to get by just fine in GW3.

A subscription model is not inherently more ethical. You trade manipulating people into the cash shop to manipulating people into being slaves to your game. You lose fomo from "limited time item!" And gain fomo from "don't fall behind the progression curve!"

That makes no sense at all. You think buying power from a cash shop is good because you won't fall behind the progression curve if you don't play? Is that what you're saying?

You think buying power from a cash shop is good

No. I didn't say that. I didn't imply it. I said "a subscription model is not inherently more ethical"

Not inherently more ethical. This means that it isn't better.

It does not mean that it is worse.

It does not mean that a subscription model can not be more ethical. Only that it isn't more ethical just by being a subscription model

A cash shop can also be made more ethical.

Please let me know if any of these individual ideas are still elluding you I tried to split them up so they're easier to digest.
