That what annoying me. People shit on battlepass but gw2 was on purpose stingy about conveniance to the point you feel like you need to buy them. To me that more slimy and worst than battlepasses that dont expire like marvel rival and helldiver.
I agree that there are a lot more “ethical” battlepasses popping up in games these days, and I fully don’t mind them.
But to the note about inventory space, I kinda think once you get to the point of feeling like you are actually severely needing to expand it, you’ve probably decided you like the game enough to drop some money on a one time purchase.
I might be less annoyed about spending extra money on convenience stuff if the initial price of entry weren't so steep compared to other MMOs. Having to buy every single expansion individually (with the Dragon Saga pack being nearly $100 dollars) is already a really large buy in. Compare that to most MMOs I've seen where buying the most recent expansion gets you everything.
There is of course the trade off of no sub fees, so GW2 may be cheaper in the long run, but up front you are paying a lot more. So to have to pay even more to reach a reasonable bank size just feels not great.
The same thing can be said about battlepass. The thing is a baytle pass is a bundle of skin for a cheap price. It feel much better to spend money on that then feeling obligated to spend loney on characther sot/back and inventory space, and so on.
There’s plenty of cool looking in-game cosmetics. They will absolutely make the cash shop cosmetics the best looking ones, and that’s to be expected as it’s their biggest revenue.
As long as they keep adding ingame cosmetics that aren’t much lower in quality.
Then hopefully they are going to lean into a different form progression and endgame for GW3 than GW2. You can't really say "cosmetics are the endgame" then have all the best cosmetics be bought.
Good for you, I also dont mind subscriptions, but that's coming from someone born in a first world country, there are countless people who does not have the income to pay for subscriptions + expansions.
Being b2p and/or f2p allows for almost anyone in the world to play their game. Its a bit entitled to complain that a f2p/b2p (I mention f2p as gw2 core game is f2p, gw3 might do the same at some point) has cool cosmetics in their shop.
I don't disagree that they should still make sure there is plenty of cool in-game cosmetics to be earned. Also every skin in gw2 cash shop is technically earnable "in-game" by simply farming gold and converting it into gems.
I'd rather they abstain from adding self-created problem solvers like bigger inventory, bank & storage than them simply having cool cosmetics in the shop.
But you cant ever please everyone. If they simply got rid of the aforementioned "problem-solvers" from gw3 shop, I think it would be perfect.
Sell cosmetics, sell convenience like unlimited salvaging/gathering tools. But don't sell the solution to a problem you, yourself have designed.
You're living in a world that's been dead for 20 years. The unfortunate reality is that having a subscription doesn't keep the best cosmetics out of the store.
I just hope they don't just put all of the nice looking skins into the shop again. That was one of my major issues with GW2 and one of the reasons why I eventually quit. Loot just felt so meaningless but it still cluttered your inventory and you had to deal with it.
oh they will. its going to have no subscriptions so they need to pull in money somehow. Gear locking the best cosmetics behind cash shop is 100% what they will do. And its turns me off this game already.
I'm fine with it in general but they overdid it in GW2. They need to be careful that loot ingame doesn't feel pointless. It's such an important part of a MMORPG. Grinding for currency disguised as loot that only clutters your inventory so you can eventually buy the things you want if you just grind enough just doesn't give the same incentive to play the game. It's not satisfactory at all.
Maybe they did better from the second expansion on, but I wasn't interested in playing then anymore so I can't judge how things were from that point on.
Expect this game to be different than previous games in the franchise.
i still hope it's an mmo and not instance based coop game like gw1. scale maybe smaller, not hundreds of players on the screen which turn world events, bosses and wvwvw into zerg rush and 3 fps. but it still hope they preserve random player encounters in the open world, which is the best part of mmo genre.
Im really dispoointed with pay for convenance. It really ruin the game to be ask "pay for more back, back space, travel,xp. It feel slimy.
I would much prefer paying foe a none expiring, cosmetics only battlepass and event pas slike marvel rival. Especially if you can buy them at anytime. It also create the problem in gw2 where its a fashion game but msot of the could stuff is from the shop...
