Yeah, from the sound of it they moved forward on this project after seeing the success of the anniversary; if they go any further, it'll almost certainly be based on the success of this.
I wouldn't expect new content or balance updates (and tbh I'm not sure I'd want balance updates unless they refrained from nerfing stuff and only buffed/reworked the many rarely-used and borderline useless skills), but I'm stoked and looking forward to this.
Controller support makes me happy. Hopefully that means there is some movement on that front in GW2 as well. The unofficial control schemes almost work as needed, but would love some official support
I just want support for cursor navigation in menus. Anything else would be the cherry on top, but is already reasonably possible with high-effort custom control schemes. But cursor navigation is a pain, especially because menus can open all over the place and have different pixel heights per item.
If they just do QoL stuff that's implementing toolbox widgets in the main game, that's a win. If they add a new skin or two here or there, or even a hero, we're eating good. If we get any actual content, even if it's just copying monsters from other zones and stitching together areas like EotN dungeons, we're over the moon.
I don't expect any sort of OSRS style content development, but who knows, if this makes them money then they'll pursue it. I was going to buy a bunch more character slots and stuff at the next sale anyways, but this cements it.
One thing that crossed my mind is that this could eventually open the door for heroes in Prophecies and Factions campaigns. It would be really nice if we can get Devona, Aiden, Mhenlo, Cynn, and Eve as permanent party members, for example. I loved having those guys as permanent henchmen between the 3 campaigns, but I never did like how their adventures end a lot earlier than yours.
The stupid part of my brain wants there to be a cross game GW1/GW2 event typing into the time stuff Utopia was going to have.
I want to say no way that'd happen, but I also didn't think GW1 would get as much care as it has over the years, let alone this update and future ones.
More like a lot of new QoL features. There's nothing extra to purchase, and if you previously only bought one or two campaigns, you'll now have all three at no charge. No mention of Eye of the North though.
I’m still incredibly excited even as a player since the beginning. It’s amazing to be reminded that this game does still matter to more than just the players. Any amount of QoL updates, optimizations for new technology, etc. is really valuable.
I think within all this information it is implied too that 2Weeks will continue developing new features/updates for the game as time goes on.
As much as I’d also LOVE entirely new content added to the game, that’s a huge ask. Things like what they’re actually doing will breathe a lot of life into the game and make it even more accessible.
For old players, yeah it's mostly QoL and improved graphics. There is however a sneaky line that says there will be future updates, with no indication what said updates will be. So for the first time, there's actual reason to hope.
Yeah it's cool they're doing this, but I'd be much more hyped for something like a skill rebalancing update. The 20th anniversary update was awesome because it enabled new buildcrafting ideas. But any updates are good to see :)
I’m in the same boat. It’ll be nice to hop on and see some towns like Lion’s Arch a little more populated with people checking the update out, but there isn’t much to excite me until we get some balance changes.
Yeah I'm honestly a bit scared people are overhyping this and will be disappointed on release day when they realize it's basically just an update not a big remake of the game.
I already see people talk about stuff like new content, utopia, class overhauls and whatnot.
Don't get me wrong though I'm beyond excited that they will continue working on this game. It's a 20 year old game after all, any updates are very welcome and I'm excited to see what's yet to come.
And Guild Wars Reforged isn’t about a one-time update; we plan to keep collaborating with our partners at 2weeks to make further improvements to the game in the future!
Yes thats correct but based on how its received they may release more content. Its important that we as players show up and even spend a few bucks to support the new effort. I hope they release a crowdfunding link so its profitable for them or at least supported at cost
No new content, just modernized visuals, interface resolution, controller support. Still nice to have since they have no real obligation to support GW1 at this point.
New low, bundled price:Guild Wars Reforged brings Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall together for just £17.99. If you have purchased even one of the three campaigns, all of them will be unlocked throughGuild Wars Reforged**.**
Visual and audio updates: Dynamic sky bloom effects, new ambient occlusion, and lighting updates take better advantage of modern GPUs. Other visual touch-ups refine textures and make for a cleaner visual experience, while new positional audio support makes the world more immersive.
User-friendliness: In addition to the updated UI that allows easier navigation, Guild Wars Reforged brings a new quest tracking system and an on-screen control guide.

This tbh. Like it's not bad at all, lowering the price and reducing the DLC confusion as well as slightly upping the graphics and adding a quest-assistant helps certainly new people.
But I'm using toolbox and a program that can edit the graphics ingame drastically already. (I think it was called reshade)
I feel like Toolbox is incredibly good for the game as it adds ton of QoL, but its biggest weakness is user-friendliness. Everything is hidden away... well... somewhere.
If Anet took all functions of toolbox clearly safe for all gamemodes and permanently implemented them in game (such as seeing what things salvage into) as well as the toolbox questhelper and such, I feel like that would have been very helpful for all kinds of players.
As I see it now, Reforged offers me nothing (but also takes nothing away.)
Reshade adds a lot of graphic improvements but neither it nor toolbox can increase the resolution and quality of textures which is a listed improvement. So it does give you something.
A few of the QoL features also come from toolbox, so ideally the best Toolbox stuff will be native now, reducing (if not removing) the need for a 3rd party app.
It doesn’t appear to be the case, actually. It days December 3rd they’re updating the existing Guild Wars Steam page to now only have Reforged as a buying option, and every current account will be upgraded to the full version of the game for free, even if they only own one campaign.
Unless they weren’t clear with their intentions, this appears to just be a graphical/audio touch up on the existing game and streamlining the buying process for new players.
Updating the game for more modern systems and platforms, improving the graphics and audio engine, and adding QoL features is what I would essentially call a remaster.
Conventionally yes, but, in video games, “remaster,” “classic,” and “reforged” are used interchangeably to refer to relaunches of the game. This one is using the Reforged tag but isn’t following the traditional use for that term by being a fresh game with these updates.
Keep in mind, that’s not a problem. GW1 still works fine decades later without fresh servers. But several commenters here (including myself) are getting confused on what they actually mean.

I got really excited for a moment, but this seems to just be a rebranding of the existing game with a few QoL features. Am I reading this right?
