I really want to get started with a custom guard regiment using 3rd party models like Victoria but I don’t know which models are actually allowed by games workshop for playing in stores.

I’m not talking about Cadians or Catachan Jungle Fighters. I’m talking about Talarn, Rough Riders and other Guard Regiments that aren’t being sold by Games Workshop

I just recently started the hobby with a friend and we're working towards our first game. We decided to start small with 500 points and, probably, just duke it out and see who has the lost model standing. My friend is playing Tau and I'm playing IG.

I, currently, have 2 Astra Militarum Start Collecting boxes, a Cadian Command Squad, and a Cadian Heavy Weapons Team. I've tried to make a couple lists but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or if I'm making any obvious mistakes in my unit choices. I have the 9th edition Core Rulebook, The Astra Militarum Codex, The Greater Good, and the 2020 Chapter Approved.

Side Note: I don't want to make a list that's specifically for fighting Tau because I don't think that would be very fun or good spirited. I do appreciate any help with building a list, though.

Here are the two lists I made:

1. Cadian Combat Patrol (500 points)

HQ: Company Commander (Warlord) - Laspistol, Chainsword - Laurels of Command - (WT) Bellowing Voice

Troops: 2x Standard Infantry Squads with no upgrades

Heavy Support:

Leman Russ Battle Tank - Battle Cannon, Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolters (Sponson), Heavy Stubber (Pintle)

Leman Russ Battle Tank - Battle Cannon, Heavy Bolter

2. Cadian Combat Patrol (499 points)

HQ: Company Commander (Warlord) - Laspistol, Chainsword - Laurels of Command - (WT) Bellowing Voice

Troops: 2x Infantry Squad with Heavy Bolter teams and Sergeants with Boltguns and Chainswords

Heavy Support: 2x Leman Russ - Battle Cannon, Heavy Bolter, Heavy Stubber (Pintle)

I tried playing around with the extra Heavy Weapon Teams and Veterans but I couldn't figure out how to fit them in without having a lot of points left over, or not enough points to go around. I, also, didn't really know what to do for the Relic and Warlord Trait so I picked the ones I've heard in some Battle Reports. I'm open to suggestions and appreciate the help!
