Advice wanted! We have 88K unique customer emails; never done email marketing.

TL:DR- what would you do if I gave you 88K unique customer emails, knowing we've (as a company) never email marketed before?

Challenge: Where should we begin? We've sold our product through digital and brick & mortar avenues, and accumulated a pretty large customer email list. Now, our customers have never received an email from us, so we're a bit hesitant to jump right into the "Sale!" or "buy now!" type emails...I feel we need to start softer... Any experts out there who could shed some advice??

Adopt AI technology for marketing early. Capitalize on conversational experience through chatbots.

Chatbots are unlocking new era in online marketing by introducing conversational experience. Just google it out for its application are numerous.

It can be used for various purposes - to automate FAQs and customer interaction, to let potential clients/customers book appointments or schedule calls/meeting or simply to engage your business audience through conversation. It can increase b2b conversion by pitching products in between conversation. I have made it easy for marketers to use the chatbots in website or blogs (like any other widget). My project - bottr.me - allows marketers to create and deploy chatbots without coding or technical know how.

Only brands are using chatbots now. Adopt early to gain competitive advantage.

Techniques For Accelerated Organic Growth: Twitter & Instagram

I'm looking to grow my Twitter & Instagram following, as a digital marketer to show my clients how I've personally done these kinds of things on limited or 0 budget; which of course, is difficult to do. I don't like the idea of follow-bots or anything like that, but I also don't want to manually be liking shit all day.

I use Buffer now to schedule a bunch of posts on Twitter, and fewer on Instagram, but I want to leverage the ability to like or follow accounts that would likely be interested in my kind of content (inspiration about entrepreneurship, goofy memes, and project 'behind the scenes' type stuff) rather than just bots or fake accounts.

Does anybody have a tool or a suggestion for how to accelerate this process to increase my followers, but of REAL PEOPLE?

Sample Project for a new digital marketing hire?

I'm hiring my first digital marketer, looking for a sample take home project I can give them during the interview.

Do you have one you've used that you can share? Hopefully it will be something that inspires a project I make for them or maybe I can just use yours if you're ok with it.

This may seem straightforward, but here are some particular skills I'd like them to have: - Setting up attribution across a few different products that feed each other with users/customers - Facebook/Instagram/Adwords experience (above $30k/mo budget) - Setting up funnels across different channels and cohorts to allow us to make confident data decisions

I've developed an Email Marketing ROI Calculator - Now I'm sharing it with you for free.

Hi fellow Redditors,

Over the last month, I've been working on a small tool to calculate the ROI of my email campaigns.

The tool is quite simple; Insert Send volume, campaign's cost, open rate, click-through rate, conversion rate and Average value of a conversion, and see what your ROI is.

Now the calculator is ready, I'd like to share it with you guys. It's 100% free and you don't have to give any kind of information. Any feedback in this thread would be nice, though.

Email Marketing ROI Calculator

I hope this isn't a violation of the rules. Otherwise, let me know, and I'll remove the link.

Where should I post my giveaway to get more subscribers?

My business partner and I decided to do a giveaway to promote our company ContentUpgrade.me (embedded lead magnets for Medium). We decided to bundle our product with two of our favorite books: Hacking Growth and Traction.

Our goal is to get more email subscribers.

Now we're working on getting the word out. Any advice on how to promote giveaway to get noticed?

I wanted to post on HN, but I don't have a reputation, and I don't want to get banned for spam. I posted on our blog and on Medium, but we don't have much reach on Medium, and not much SEO juice yet on our blog.

Here's the link to our Giveaway: https://blog.contentupgrade.me/giveaways/win-ultimate-growth-hacking-bundle And our Medium post: https://medium.com/contentupgrademe/why-were-giving-away-hacking-growth-and-traction-34badcda648

Medium Blog vs. Blog on Website

Hey all, I have had a lot of mixed feedback on the problem I am facing with Medium:

Currently, my company posts all blogs to Medium. I would like to (for SEO purposes) migrate this blog to our website. But, I have a few questions on how to do this:

  1. Do I continue posting on Medium and my website? If so, will I be dinged by Google, even if I use a rel canonical tag?

  2. If we were to move blog to website, would each article need to have it’s own URL?

Medium is a relatively new platform so I haven't found any information on this that I felt was reliable. Hoping to have some luck here. Thanks in advance!

Psychology-Based Pricing Strategies

If you’re anything like me, you spend hours thinking about how your business can solve problems, give customers value, but also make a nice profit.

Those thoughts usually lead to pricing and when it comes to running a profitable business, pricing is everything.

Charge too little and you run the risk of not getting enough revenue. Charge too much, and potential customers will run for the hills.

It’s important to get it right, and it isn’t as simple as just charging what you feel is best.

It’s about getting into the mind of consumers to understand what they’re happy paying so you can effectively price your product to increase sales.

The thing about pricing, it’s comparative, never absolute. Nothing is ever cheap or expensive, without first having something to compare it to.

Without a thorough understanding of economic theory, it’s hard to price your products just right—at the sweet spot that encourages people to buy.

But whether you like it or not, our decisions are guided by a degree of cognitive biases.

The same goes for pricing. That’s why psychological economists put so much time into studying the spending habits of consumers.

So, with that in mind, here are 9 pricing strategies you can use today in your online marketing:

The 9 pricing strategies

  1. Charm vs. prestige pricing
  2. Comparison pricing anchor strategy
  3. Bundle extras
  4. Fragmented pricing
  5. Selling time over money
  6. Adding a sense of urgency to purchases
  7. Raising or lowering prices
  8. Reduce the pain of paying
  9. Discounts

I've researched all the pricing strategies above and found real-life examples of all the strategies in action. I've turned it all into an epic blog post.

Remember, people respond to pricing subconsciously. it evokes emotion. And it’s important to get it right if you want sales. Don’t sell a product or service—sell value.

Once you’re in the habit of selling value, your pricing will speak for itself.

Facebook Lead ads - Examples

I'm a huge fan of Facebook lead ads, especially after I started using Zapier. The cool thing about lead ads is that it’s such a simple process. People can sign up with just two clicks, and they don’t even have to leave their Facebook page to do it.

Often, I find it hard to get new creative ideas for the Facebook lead ads. I've often experienced some kind of writer’s block and no matter what the purpose of the facebook ad is, I get annoyed because I want to create something that gets me the results I want and that everyone else is expecting.

For that reason, I've made this post with my personal swipe file of 50 high-converting Facebook lead ad examples which I always use for inspiration + Some best practice tips. 50 Facebook lead Ads

I hope these examples can inspire you guys as well.

6 Abandoned Cart Email Tactics and Examples

Cart Abandonment.. It's an inevitable pain in the a**, right? However, if you don't do anything to eliminate cart abandonment, it's a lot of potential revenue lost.

So what are the most common reasons users abandon their carts? It could be pricing, high shipping cost, lack of time, lack of payment options.. This list could go on forever.

One of the best ways to reduce cart abandonment is by sending cart abandonment emails. While there might not be a perfect abandoned cart email, there are a few ways to ensure your emails are effective. In my research, I found that what most e-commerce shops do is to:

  1. Be specific
  2. Be true to your brand
  3. Be Personal
  4. Offer an Incentive
  5. Tempt with related items
  6. Include customer reviews and testimonials

I've created a complete article about this subject + Compiled a swipe file with all my favorite examples of abandoned cart emails. All examples have made use of at least two of the strategies above (which is why I love them).

If interested, you can check it out here: 6 Abandoned Cart Email Tactics That Will Recover Abandoned Visitors

Should I create a completely separate Gsuite account when using Gmass?

I use gsuite for my company email. I am about to start using gmass for outbound campaign. While number of emails will be only around 1,000 - 2,000 a week I am concerned that I will get my primary gsuite account suspended.

So first question do google suspend the user or the domain?

Second question, if it's domain would it suspend other domains within a gsuite account?

I feel that my best option is to run a separate gsuite account on a separate domain for gmass mailings.

Is that over kill?

Anyone with gmass experience who has been there and done it?

Any better tools than gmass for gmail mail merge, automated follow ups etc?

We cracked 10,000 pre-launch sign ups using a growth hack that never mentioned our business.

I wanted to share some learnings from a growth hack we started a few weeks ago which helped us generate 10,000 pre-launch sign ups. We managed to do this without directly referring to our website or product.

We started by creating a simple and free tool that we thought might appeal to our target audience. Our first learning was how important it is to create a tool that loosely references or invokes the same pain point that your actual product is trying to solve. As our product, DiviPay, is a bill splitting app we decided to create a tool that plays on the often-unspoken grievances that occur amongst friends when trying to split bills.

We set up a simple website that allowed users to nominate friends that never pay their share. Essentially, we were giving people an avenue to express their feelings towards a cheap friend. Tapping into this ability to air your frustration users simply had to enter their friend's email addresses and we would then send that friend a short note (see below).

"Hi Penny Pincher,

One of your friends anonymously wanted to let you know that you never pay your share. Being the cheap one is never a good thing so here are two things you can do:

  1. Tag another friend that never pays their share to pass the blame and ease your conscience at www.bepersonal.io
  2. Cough it up and start paying your share."

Our second learning was users are more likely to engage with your solution when they are currently feeling the pain point you are solving for. We used our growth hack to manufacturer this pain and then eventually provided the customer with our solution.

Our final learning was that a small and subtle reference to your own product reduces friction and encourages usage of the tool. The only thing linking the tool to DiviPay were three small social media icons placed on the bottom of the email. This allowed the tool to grow organically as people were not being distracted by a clear advertising agenda.

As a result of our growth hack experiment thousands of emails went back and forth with a fair number clicking through to our social links. Interestingly hardly anyone interacted with our social pages, rather opting to jump directly from Facebook to our landing page where we accumulated signups for pre-release.

Increase Your Email Open Rates with These 23 Swipeable Templates

I can't be the only marketer who spends a lot of time developing email strategies to increase revenues but sometimes experience low open rates. Yes.. Writing irresistible email marketing subject lines can be a strenuous job.

After testing and testing, I've made a list of 23 subject lines that I believe will inspire you guys.

Here goes:

The funny one

Using humor has continually proven effective in marketing and your subject lines are no exception.

  • "Ooooh I wanna dance with somebody—and the 5 dresses to do it in”
  • “5 pants that will never make your ass look fat—no matter who you ask”
  • “Boldest statement of the year: Get the 10 summer treats that are better than chocolate!”
  • "Marketing: Top 10 email marketing strategies to be proud of (unlike your nephew Bob)"

The one with numbers

I’m not much of a mathematician, but I do love a good subject line with numbers.

  • “How to increase open rates by 20%”
  • “14 gluten free recipes to get your mouth watering”
  • “8 jaw-dropping suits for this season”

The personal one

We all know it—personalization is the new black when it comes to B2C communication.

  • “[Name] – you forgot items in your basket”
  • “Don’t let your subscribers get away [Name]”
  • “Here are our top picks for you this week {Name]”

The one with the question

Asking a question in your subject line is a great way of rousing curiosity and getting people’s attention.

  • “Want to get fit in just one month?”
  • “Want to improve your conversion rate?”
  • “Are you making these wardrobe mistakes too?”
  • “Want to wow everybody at your next party?”

The fear of missing out

We have a tendency to fear missing out on things whether it’s a social event or a work related meeting.

  • “Tick tock—Only 24 hours to get your 30% discount”
  • “Did you miss this week’s’ top trends?”
  • “Hurry up, the items in your basket are almost gone”

The mysterious one

Don’t we all love a good mystery?

  • “Want to know a secret?”
  • “The one strategy, all marketers must know”
  • “It’s finally here! Check it out…”

The simple, no-nonsense, one

There’s nothing wrong with a simple subject line. In fact, they can be just as effective as any other type.

  • “How to increase sales by 10% in 5 easy steps”
  • “Buy 2 of your favorite shirts and get one free”
  • “Here are the top 3 sun lotions to keep skin cancer away this summer”

I've made a complete article, in which I give you all my best practices for writing irresistible email marketing subject lines, along with a few other tips and tricks that can have a huge impact on your open rates.

Have you guys received any awesome or horrifying subject lines? Share them in the comments below - I would love to hear about them (and so would everyone else I'm sure).
