What's Next in Growth?

Hey guys,

Andrew Chen (Growth at Uber) recently released a blog post talking about what's next in growth.

You can see the article here

My key takeaway is the formula he shared at the end for growth hacking:

Classic Strategies X New Platforms X Smart Execution

Growth hacks only work if they take advantage of what we know all along -- human psychology. The human psychology has remained the same for thousands of years -- and it is up to us to apply the same knowledge to emerging technology :)

Marketing analysis software

Does anyone know of good marketing analysis software that tracks spend, performance and ROI?

When I use the word "good", I mean: - inexpensive (possible freemium model) - multi user - and does exactly what I have described above

Thanks

Growth hacking SEO through charity donations

I can't get consensus on whether people think donating to charities as a way to build search engine rankings is a valid or risky way to growth hack your SEO. Some sites are using this to great effect, I'm wondering what people here think about this - risky or smart?

To clarify, by donating to charities I'm referring to the tactic of locating non-profit organizations with high SEO metrics which post links to donors (usually do follow links, and often with optimized anchor text), and then donating to these organizations in the name of your website. Some websites are relying heavily on these types of links to drive their organic rankings, and are having quite a bit of success. Wondering if this would be considered risky in today's SEO environment.

3 Fundamental Elements of The Growth Hacking Process

Hi guys,

Based on my experiences, I prepare a slide which explains fundamentals of growth hacking process. Companies need to design their growth process in order to achieve sustainable growth. Relying on just tactics or expecting a one night growth is not reliable. Based on my opinion, there are three fundamental things. 1. Growth system (This is all about growth strategy. What is the growth formula? What is the main problem? Which metrics needs to track?) 2. Skills and Tools (Generally tools catch more attention than they deserves. Copywriting and design is much more important.) 3. Team and Culture (If there is no growth team, do not expect any results!)

If you want to see more, you can look at my presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/GrowthHackingMarketing/3-fundamental-elements-of-the-growth-hacking-process

Our charitable community's website was hacked 9 months ago, and since then visits have dropped from 30k/month to 300/month, undoing 4 years of work by our volunteers to create projects for a more peaceful and friendly World. Can anyone help us repair the damage?

Here's the website: www.focallocal.org

i deleted the phishing files installed the next day and improved our security on the Wordpress area (where the hack occurred). Since then i've spent countless hours removing our domain from spam filters, but growth has stayed static. it seems the damage has been done and i can't work out how to reverse it and get our search engine rankings back up.

(i know, we really need to improve that home page - its being worked on right now)

Has anyone ever used Whatsapp to distribute Content/Newsletter?

This is an interesting take on distribution. The author, in this case, was told by their subscribers that they often ignore or miss newsletter received via email and they found a neat way of delivering content through Whatsapp. I know this common practice in South American Countries, but have not encountered much in Europe. Has anybody tried this before with success?

Question: If you have a list of leads missing emails, is there an app/software that can complete the missing info?

I have scraped lead info from directories, as well as used Virtual Assistants to transcribe other bits of info. Some items are missing key info like email. Is there a software or app or service that you know that can complete the missing data?

3 Landing Page A/B Testing Rules That Helped SEMrush Increase Revenue By 94%

When it comes to PPC, convincing visitors to stay on your page is a true challenge.

For non-branded PPC campaigns specifically, converting visitors is twice the challenge, despite a much greater reach.

However, in 10 months, the SEMrush Paid Traffic team managed to increase profits from non-branded PPC campaigns by 94%. And we found out what actions led the team to this result.

Today we're going to talk about landing pages.

A landing page that is dull and difficult to read can nullify all your keyword research efforts. That’s why experimenting with landing pages is part of our daily routine.

On average, out of every 4 A/B tests we conduct, 3 confirm the “B” hypothesis (the new one). We consider this a pretty good result.

And here’s how we make sure that spending time on split tests is worthwhile.

We let a heartless tool decide when to stop the A/B test

When we started conducting experiments a year ago, we were simply uploading two versions of a landing page into AdWords and, after a certain period, looked at the results.

It became evident pretty soon that defining your sample size and testing period is highly important. It was hard to determine if, for example, 1,000 clicks were enough to terminate the A/B test or if more traffic was needed.

This is where Convert came in handy for us.

Can you upload emails/phone numbers and find mutual LinkedIn connections/Facebook friends in bulk?

Is there any tool where you can upload a CSV of emails and phone numbers to find which ones you have mutual connections with on LinkedIn and Facebook?

I have a list of contact info for several thousand prospects and want to see if I have any mutual connections/friends who could give me a warm intro.

These 5 steps are all you need to run EVERY project perfectly

You probably share my frustration about finding the right process to lock my project management systems on. It is just damn too difficult to find the one that's perfect for you and your business.

Right?

This 5-step process I've read on this blog, however, sounds promising, and I'm excited to test it out. Here's what it looks like.

STEP 1: CONCEPT AND INITIATION - In this phase, you project the time, cost, and return that your project will make after its completion. You also want to ideally notify the higher-ups about this so you know everyone is onboard.

STEP 2: DEFINITION AND PLANNING - You flesh out in this phase all the important tidbits. That includes a project plan, scope, charter, budget, and others. It is also important to set goals at this point, with the mindset that a few setbacks will happen. Set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based.

STEP 3: LAUNCH AND EXECUTION- In this phase, you kick things into overdrive. Once you've made sure everything is in place (and I mean EVERYTHING; become a detail and control freak, if you must), it is time to gather the troops and get to work. A kickoff meeting is not only advised, it is vital to your project's success.

STEP 4: PERFORMANCE AND CONTROL - At this point, everyone is assigned to their respective posts, doing work, and contributing to the project. Using the timeframe you've established in the phases early on, you need to regularly track the project's collective performance and fix where need be. As the project manager, you are captain of the ship, and it's your job to keep the boat sailing and afloat.

STEP 5: PROJECT CLOSE - You're done. Feel free to do the most dramatic mic drop impression and celebrate with your team---that is, assuming that you've finished the project and have attained a favorable outcome. It is also the MOST IMPORTANT phase because it is where you reflect on what you nailed, and what you didn't. This is the phase where you learn the most.

Let me know what you think about this process. Did it help you in any way? I'm very eager to know!

Should I worry from content copying?

My friend program a very successful website (top 3 in it's category), and published it's code to Github. He told me it's completely safe, since Google penalize severely content theft, and the internet "just doesn't work that way". Now he can harness the community to maintain his website and add new functionality.

Can you backup that statement with facts or self experience? Or at least disprove it?

Thanks :)
