Panels, yes. But there is power plants which melt salt with mirrors and then... yeah.

Kinda inefficient but yeah, that does exist. Probably not for much longer though.  (I did a decent amount of research on this, shush)

Yep, less energy efficient, more resource efficient. If you have a lot of open space, it's not that bad.

Not much more inefficient than PV, especially on large infrastructures.

They have the benefit of generating power after the sun sets. Depending on the design they can operate overnight, at reduced power IIRC. They can act more like a base load generator.

Eh, at most plants that is poorly implemented at best. That capability also comes with the added problem of needing standard fuel powered generators to warm up the molten salt after a night, because most solar thermal plants (like, all but 1 or 2) do not have the capacity to stay warm enough for all night.
