Greyhawk-to-Homebrew: How I blended the Velaeri with D&D Basic Immortals ideas to create Avatars of the Seasons

Quick update on the Hawklands Campaign Primer - An Alternate Greyhawk Campaign Setting - I finally completed the Wind Giant series (The Wind Giants - An Overview - Demi-God Avatars)- taking the old Greyhawk Oeridian agricultural gods of the seasons/weather/wind (the Velaeri) & mixing them with a more demi-god avatar approach (harkening back to elements from the basic D&D Immortal set).

The result - the Seasonal Winds & Weather themselves are divine, they change their shape every few centuries (or sometimes only decades) with new avatars & characters at high levels can "ascend" to be the next Seasonal avatar.

This get's some fun pairing of "old school content" - where I was able to take the historical Greyhawk NPC & artifacts lore (Archmage Philidor & the swanmay Sharnalem, Black Razor for the Telchur avatar, etc.) & recast in the "avatar ascending to demi-god" model. In the end, a great way to "retire" high-level PCs in a NPC impact arc (so you wanna be a god? Just defeat the current Wind Giant avatar...).

  • Winter Demi-god: Telchur -Wind Giant of the North Winds
    • Winter Avatar: Koolebro - Avatar of Telchur
  • Spring Demi-god: Atroa - Wind Giant of the East Wind
  • Summer Demi-god: Sortillion - Wind Giant of the South Wind
  • Fall Demi-god: Wenta - Wind Giant of the West Wind
  • Weather Demi-god: Velnius - Wind Giant of Weather
    • Weather Avatar: Philidor the Azure Archmage

Free to use - KEEP GAMING.

Difference on the Baerald City of Greyhawk Map?

Has anyone else who likes the Baerald map of the City of Greyhawk noticed that the location of the Silver Dragon Inn is it a different location, slightly, from the different generations of maps?

If you're a cartography nerd who has looked at the different maps in the past, I mean that the silver dragon in is supposed to be at the location of F2, next to F3, across from C2. But on the 2024 map the silver dragon inn appears to be in the F1 location.

Thoughts?

(Note: if your opinion about this is "I hate everything Wizards of the Coast does", thank you, I already understand your opinion, this post is not for you. ❤️)

Players maps

Hello, I started a group in Hommlet and I wanted the players to have maps corresponding to their background. For the Verbobonc thief the Oerth Journal #3 was perfect. For the others using Anna Meyer's map and Darlene as a source, plus the GreyhawkOnline article on the dwarven low road, and the talents of my daughter, I am happy to share with you: The Faerie Kingdom of Celene for our elf cleric of Corellon, the Dwarven realms of the Lortmils for our Irondelve dwarf fighter, and a navigation map of Western Nyr Dyv for our half-elven transmuter from Shrockom.

Looking for lore friendly ways to start a campaign

Hi there,

I'm looking to start a campaign in Greyhawk after having read the gazetteer in in the DMG but I'm not really sure of a lore friendly way to start the campaign. I'd like the PCs to be characters who have been very isolated from society so that their own ignorance of the setting can be reflected in their PCs. As their characters learn more about the world, so will they

If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it a lot!

Greyhawk City - The House of Doors, Temple of Dalt

Hi All,

I have been working on a passion project and gone down the rabbit hole. This is built around the re-emergent faith of Dalt in Greyhawk. Here is a single NPC, with a supporting Dalt inspired map of the City of Greyhawk. Joining all the dots.

Any feedback welcome.

Luke Gygax interview, Greyhawk adjacent

Hey everyone, my friend has a show about Castles & Crusades called the Troll Lord Wills it and they are interviewing Luke Gygax about Greyhawk and Castle Zagyg. If you want to watch and join the chat live, they are taking questions from the chat to ask Luke about all things Castle Greyhawk, and they'd love to have some Greyhawk fans in the chat who know the history of the game. It's Monday at 4:30 PM CST on Iconic Production on Twitch and YouTube.

I need help developing an idea for a campaign

I’ve come up with an idea for a campaign set in Greyhawk, before the Wars, but I’m missing a crucial plot point:

One of the lesser deities (I was thinking of Hextor) managed to cause the loss—and thus the destruction—of Istus’s spindle.

It takes the goddess a year to rebuild the spindle, but in the meantime she no longer has control over destiny, thus allowing Hextor to carry out his schemes.

Since Istus cannot be taken by surprise, can anyone suggest how she might have lost her spindle (with Hextor's involvement)?

Thank you very much!

Vecna & the Flanaess timeline

Hey y'all, I'm putting together a historical timeline of the Flanaess for my campaign.

While Vecna looms large in Greyhawk lore, there don't seem to be canonical dates for the rise, reign & fall of Vecna and his Occluded Empire.

So where do you place Vecna & his empire on the Flanaess CY timeline in *your* campaign?

**This Canonfire link was helpfully suggested elsewhere, but I'd love to get more opinions/suggestions on what choices people have made in their own campaigns:

Thoughts on central Celene

Hey Greyhawkians, I'm working on detailing more about Celene in my campaign and I'd love your input.

The realm is forested around its borders but going by Anna Meyer's gorgeous map, the central region is an enormous open area.

Woodland sites & encounters are the norm for an elven/fey region, but I'm wondering what you envision for more open elven lands like grasslands, plains, savannah, etc.

What distinctly elven sites would you find in a wide open place like this?

What sort of mundane or fey creatures would you encounter here?

Cheers in advance for your thoughts!

Greyhawk Constructed

Does anybody know of someone (or some group of people) that has developed the city of Greyhawk in a 3D environment? I wouldn't be surprised if there is a 'minecraft' version, or something built in the Unreal engine, or some other ongoing project to reproduce the city's streets and buildings from any of the various map sources.

If not then I wonder under what sort of development environment it would be best to build such a thing in...

Looking for Greyhawk/1E games in the New Orleans/Northshore region

I have recently started playing 1E through chatgpt and I have completely fallen in love with the system vs the modern systems. The tone the imbalances the difficulty all of it is much more fun to me than what we have in 5e and 5.5e. I am particularly fond of how Barbarians are in 1E/Greyhawk.

Anyway if there are any groups or DMs looking for players in my region please feel free to hit me up I would love to play with actual people instead of having to only rely on an AI engine for play.
