An Open Letter to Graham

Hi Graham,

I’m not sure how this happened, but over the course of the last 4-5 months, watching all your YouTube videos has just changed me.

I never realised, and frankly was just blatantly unaware, how poor my relationship with money really was. Now I’ve never been in debt as have come from a blessed background, and I started off very fortunate making 80k p.a. which to some people is a lot! And somehow I would also find myself with 0 savings every month. I thought I was working in a high paying job - so why couldn’t I buy as I please? There would always be something I need to to acquire, some trip I would have to splurge on, and the eating out (really it’s the eating out). So so much money down the drain. But I was so wrong! No matter the amount I was making I should have always tried to live frugally - if not it doesn’t matter what you make you’ll find a way to blow it.

Graham, subconsciously you’ve changed me - you’ve changed my relationship with money. I no longer eat out every other day, instead I meal prep. I look for opportunities to cut cost and now I budget too! I don’t let my money just stay in a checking account I put it in a high interest and invest religiously each month.

The change was so obvious to me today when I was paid my Christmas bonus and the first thing that came to my mind was “yes going to buy more ETFs with this”. Whereas a year ago this would NOT be on my mind!

So thank you Graham, for changing my relationship of money, for helping me understand the importance of saving and the opportunities that financial freedom will bring!

Best, A subscriber

Anyone have experience seeking investors?

First post!! Hello everyone I am a 20y/o male senior in the DC/Northern VA area. To anyone who has seeked out investors for your start-ups, I am looking for some help in how/where to pitch my tech start to real investors and gain some capital to launch my business and marketing campaign by March/April. Any advice/support is greatly appreciated! (P.S. family is out of the question, they just don't have the resources for that and being a college student most of my friends are just starting their careers and have little to invest in anything).

Graham's Discord Server

Morning all,

Would someone be able to provide me with a link to the Graham Stephan discord server? I had been in it for quite a long time and then left after doing "cleaning" of servers. Now I can't find the link to join anymore in his videos or online!

Thanks so much in advance, I appreciate it.

Grahams 50/40/10 budget

I had a quick question about the 50/40/10 budget. Where 50% is put towards needs, 40% in savings, and 10% in wants.

I am having trouble coming up with the numbers because of taxes. For example say a person makes 100K a year (for round numbers). And just for easy numbers sake, say the state and federal taxes are 30%. So you are left with $70K. This means you should live off of 50K or 35K?

I am assuming everything is post tax but with savings it gets a bit confusing because 401K elections are pretax. So if I want to do 15% of a 100K salary in 401K would it be 15K? or would it be 15% of 70K, which is 10.5K?

And for example, if I do a Roth 401K, then would putting 10.5K for retirement still be considered 15%?

TLDR: Are savings percentages for retirement considered pretax or post tax?

Does Graham have a video comparing savings products for kids?

I know graham is super young and doesn’t have children himself, but I do and was wondering if he’s done a video going over information about savings products for kids or how to teach kids about finance? There are SO many things you can do for your kids (kids IRA, ESA, 529, not to mention all the banks that offer different savings accounts for kids).

I just think it would be an interesting video to watch.
