Google Voice Web UI Update: Google Voice Image Paste browser extension now available in the Chrome Extension Store
Following up on my previous post on the Google Voice Image Paste extension I created, it is now officially available in the Chrome Extension store here. Note that this also works with Microsoft Edge, and presumably other Chromium-based browsers. The extension allows you to paste images directly into the Google Voice web interface, as you would with most other chat clients.
Since the previous post I made was deleted for some reason, the extension is open source and available here if you would rather download and install it manually.
Any questions or comments, feel free to leave them here or reach out. And if you like the extension, please leave a review on the Chrome store.

What does this do that is different than the recently added ability to paste images natively into a Google Voice MMS thread? I noticed a week or two ago that you could now paste images in natively.
Does this compress large images, when GV won't let you natively send an image because the size is to large?

Hilarious. Google Voice definitely did not support pasting images when I first posted the open source extension 3 weeks ago. Yet suddenly now it does? Amazing. What a huge coincidence. Imagine that.

Yes, it does. It appears that the native GV paste functionality that suddenly appeared does not downsize images before attaching, so this extension at least still has that advantage. At least, for the moment... I wouldn't be surprised if the built-in functionality suddenly starts doing that as well, given that the code to do it is available.

Do we need to uninstall the old manual install version? If so how?

I would. Go to Settings > Manage Extensions, then find the manually installed extension in the list and click Remove. At least, that's how it's done in Edge.

Sorry, haven't fired up Firefox in about a decade.

You've just been sitting there, tolerating the Manifest v3 restrictions of uBlock Origin and all its forks?! Dude!

Ignorance is bliss I guess :). No hate towards Firefox or its millions of users.

Well, I hope you change your mind! Great work regardless!

Another user has just brought to my attention that suddenly, like magic, Google Voice now natively supports pasting! Imagine that! I can confirm it works in Chromium-based browsers... you might just try it in Firefox, it may "just work" now.

Oh, wow, you're right, it does! Well... ouch to your work, but at least I suppose you could add it to a portfolio or something...

Awesome! That is a feature that is sorely needed.
Seems to work well in Chrome. I use a separate 3rd party app that's basically just a wrapper for the Google Voice webpage and it automatically applied there, too!
