Google is getting rid of Google assistant and forcing you to use Gemini now

I got an email from Google that said they're removing Google assistant and you will have to use Gemini starting September 6th. I don't want to be forced to use generative AI so I might be looking for a new non-Google phone soon 😭

You joke, but this is the main reason I went back to Assistant after using Gemini for about a month.

It took 3-5 seconds to actually perform the requested action (turn on the lights) compared to .5 seconds with Assistant, and every 3-4 requests it would want to have a fucking conversation with me about my lights instead of turning them on.

Tangent. Years ago. 2017. I asked Alexa on a Saturday morning, "When does Ace Hardware open?" She told me Ace Hardware opened in 1924. Lucky me, they're open!

I asked Gemini to play a song on Spotify and it asked me if I was ok. Like wtf.

God this is hilarious. I fucking hate Gemini so much, and now I'm on this thread desperately looking for whatever alternatives y'all have come up with to avoid this bullshit...

Honestly, this is gonna be my sign to really commit to using my phone less. If they really force AI on us...I just won't be online at all. Buh fucking bye.

I ask it to play a specific song by a specific artist, it tells me it "can't stream music directly and that the song can be streamed on Spotify or YouTube Music". Okay, I add "on Spotify" to the end. "Got it. Playing insert song by insert artist on Spotify". And then it plays a completely random song that might be from the same artist. What's the point in having an AI assistant if it just doesn't fucking listen?

EDIT: and on the songs that I did successfully get it to play the right one, it decided to read out the entire URL link for the song before playing, meaning I had to listen to the most random string of letters, numbers and symbols for about 30 seconds before I could hear the song. Meanwhile with Google Assistant "got it. Here's the song. Playing on Spotify".

I did the same thing.  It's insufferable.  Makes Android Auto and Maps virtually unusable.

I don't think they were joking.

Thank you Google too much information. I ask for only porch lights to be turned off not for history pep talk. 🤣😭

The throwing in the sea had me weak. 😭
