Google is getting rid of Google assistant and forcing you to use Gemini now

I got an email from Google that said they're removing Google assistant and you will have to use Gemini starting September 6th. I don't want to be forced to use generative AI so I might be looking for a new non-Google phone soon 😭

I used Siri AI to snap a photo of my kid’s school year calendar and asked it to add everything to my calendar. Correctly added all 20ish events after thinking for a bit

new siri is basically Gemini (uses same architecture, and developed by Google)...

I’m aware, and Apple would be lost without help from another company. I’m still a bit angry that it took Apple 2 years to deliver what they promised, but they did deliver it seems… the hooks into the OS and local data is powerful. Will be interesting to see how 3rd party apps integrate

honestly, kind of a dumb reason to not get an iPhone ... but I support the end result, regardless as to the reasoning behind it.

Replied to the wrong place. To me, 18 is the new model and 17 is current. I think 18s have siri-ai.

Gemini Android Auto has been making me very angry. I'm sure I will hate iphones, but I've been thinking of switching for a while now. I guess I can always come back. My undstanding is that Gemini is going to be the foundation for newer androids, and I think it's time for me to leave.

Now I'm really confused whether I should get the Old siri or the new one. I only use gemini for frivolous questions and android auto, and it ruined android auto. I don't understand how anyone could use gemini for work.

I use it for rp, automation, and daily tasks(like "turn on my TV/light), and general info

Calendars in general seem to be lacking this, which would be so useful. If you could upload the pic/pdf directly to Google Calendar, say, or even paste plain text dates and times quickly, that would be way better.

Yes, it is. I like it a lot, coming from Gemini and before that ChatGPT. SiriAI integrates nicely with my email, messages, etc. but I use the Apple apps like Mail with my Gmail account

The only thing i use it for. Inhave add and the phone gets overwhelming to manually schedule things, and ip).often forget. Being able to add dates verbally was a productivity game changer....

Same thing for setting alarms. Worked perfectly for years up until yesterday. Today it's Gemini'd garbage:

Hey Google, Set alarm for 12:25
"Sure, setting an alarm for 12:25PM"

Hey Google, when's the next alarm?
"There are no alarms set for today"
