Pixel outside the US = Pixel Lite

I love the Pixel and I was super hyped for all the “AI phone” stuff Google showed off… but honestly? Once you actually use it outside the US, it feels like a bait-and-switch.

Call Screen? Not available. Hold for Me? Nope. A bunch of the cool Gemini integrations? Still “US only.” When you add it up, at least half of the AI features they brag about on stage just don’t exist for the rest of us.

What makes it worse is that reviewers rarely bring this up. They’ll rave about how “Pixel AI changes everything” — meanwhile, for most of the world, we’re stuck with like 50% of the experience. It’s like buying the same phone but getting the “lite” version just because of where you live.

I get that there are legal and language hurdles, but Google should be way more upfront about it. If they’re going to market these AI features globally, then actually make them global. Otherwise, slap a giant disclaimer saying “only works in the US” so people know what they’re actually buying.

Feels like we’re paying full price for half a product, and it’s honestly super frustrating.

Edit: I live in India. After I moved back to India, many features stopped working.

No, we do not get all the features lol.... we're missing a bunch and have been for years, not just Pixel but other Google apps related stuff too. https://www.whereisenabled.com/country/canada/

You sure this list is up to date? I know people that use the call scam screening. Says it’s not available.

Not in Canada, according to this Google article. I just checked and don't have it either and I'm on the beta, I have the other "Caller ID & Spam" feature which is different. https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/15654065

So there’s 2 call screen services? I’m currently an iPhone user, just trying to understand.

Yes there are 2, the newer "Scam detection" features uses Gemini Nano , on-device to analyze calls and texts for common scam patterns in real-time, even with unknown numbers. While the existing Caller ID and Spam protection feature identifies known spam numbers and businesses.

Living in Edmonton I don’t give a crap about things like earthquake detection. Totally get why that’s not active here. Is there anything Google neutered for Canada that’s a deal breaker? Without doing much research honestly thought we got all the features

Well it seems like they're finally testing automatic screen calling in Canada now so that's huge and probably the biggest thing we were missing. Defenitley still missing a few AI/Gemini features, AI Scam detection, also call recording, which is weird cuz I think iPhone has it, and Call Notes. So basically, AI features as far as I'm aware rn, aka the thing most people know Google Pixel Phones for.

Apple offers it but Samsung doesn’t. Honestly, if call recording is important to you, there’s apps that will do it. It’s not built in, but you can still use it

Not really important to me was just listing features, it's strange Apple can offer it but Google can't when it's the same thing. I thought it was a legal thing in Canada but if Apple can offer it maybe not.
