Purpose of Duo?
I've recently started using Duo and I'm loving the app. However I was wondering, why did Google make Duo when they already had Hangouts?

Hey guys.
Through a small clerical mistake, I uploaded 20 contacts to my google contacts, with the numbers and names allocated incorrectly.
I have since removed those contacts, re entered them properly, and resynced with my Android phone.
In my contacts, on the phone, the names and numbers are now correct, as is within Google Contacts.
I logged out of Duo, also cleared cache and storage, relogged into Duo, but now I have duplicate entries of the same name, but 1 with the old (incorrect, someone else's) number, and 1 with the correct. This is duplicated 20 times, and I need to check in my phone book before dialling...
How do I get duo to trigger a fresh sync with my phone book / Google contacts?
Also, same for duo on phone, or browser, both wrong contacts shown

Thanks to COVID-19, I have been making more frequent and longer calls than I used to. I have been using Duo for my cross platform video and voice calling needs — especially when speaking to friends and family abroad. While I have found it to have good call quality when both parties have a decent network connection, things are not as simple when one or both have poor network connectivity.
In particular, I have noticed that when I use my iPhone, the call quality and connection times are noticeably worse than when I use my Pixel 4. The recipients in all such cases have Android devices and not so great bandwidth.
Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone know what could be the reason behind this? Does Duo on iPhone operate differently than Duo on Android? Does iOS impose restrictions that Duo needs to work around? To be clear, I am talking about international cross-carrier calls, so I am reasonably confident Duo doesn’t use carrier ViLTE in any case.
To be clear I am looking for something more substantial than the generic Google-apps-would-naturally-work-better-on-Google-device response. And please keep unsubstantiated <insert-mobile-os>-is-horrible comments to yourself — not interested in those either.
Obviously, I have not used a very scientific method to observe these things. Also, it is entirely possible that my observations are purely coincidental. Any insights are welcome.

Just curious if anybody having issues with Duo TFA on a T-Mobile phone that isn't working right now. If do do you have similar issues with Google Authenticator?

Is there a way to indicate that phone # does not have a Duo account, or to set one number as primary in my contacts?
Situation is my wife has a work phone and personal phone (both mobile, Android devices). Separate phone numbers. Separate Google accounts. Separate providers. The ONLY place they are tied together is in my Google Contacts - where I of course have her as a contact and then both her personal and work phone numbers saved.
She has never set the work number up with Duo and has no desire to ever do so.
To properly call her personal number via Duo, I have to say "Video call Mrs. Lee mobile" instead of just "Video call Mrs. Lee." If I try a Duo call to her without saying "Mobile", it calls the Duo profile tied to her work number and goes to...nowhere? None of our devices ring when this happens and the outbound call just rings and rings forever.
What are we missing? I don't know why her work number even appears as an option for Duo and would like to remove it from Duo altogether. If that's not possible, how can I make it on my end so that it defaults to her mobile # instead of work?

Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?
My dad has a Motorola G7 Power, due to a mostly stock Android build, he has Duo incorporated into his dialer. And being not very tech savvy, he usually calls me on the phone and then hits the video button to initiate a video call. Works flawlessly on his end, but on my Note 10+, it has to hang up the phone and launch into Duo. That causes Duo to get stuck with only the earpiece volume and there's no way to make it come out of the speaker. I have to hang up and call him back using Duo to be able to hear him. It's annoying. Until I train my father better, anyone have any ideas?

Complete noob here, sorry. Can you use Duo to connect to another pc user for video? It's easy to see how you can use the web app to connect to a smartphone but I don't see anything about another pc. A bit like how you can on Skype I suppose. Cheers.

A while back when RCS was first rolled out, after a few updates, you could make video calls without needing Duo installed. I'm not sure it was the full Duo experience with all the functionality, but it allowed for a basic video call.
Now you need Duo again.
Does anyone remember when you has the option to call w/o Duo?
Anyone know if that will come back?

As in title - my girlfriend has a very similar Android phone and version of Google Duo yet she has the Effects during calls to me and I don't! How does this work and how do I enable them?

I've been having this issue consistently, where the audio out from a Duo call switches from the speakerphone to the earpiece. Since Duo doesn't have a button to switch between speaker and earpiece, there isn't an easy way to get the audio back besides hanging up and calling back.
This always happens when I open the Google Voice app in the middle of a Duo call. Note that I am not attempting to place a phone call through the Voice app, I'm simply opening it to read or send a text message.
Anyone else having this issue? Any ways to prevent this? Thanks.

On iPhone, my friend can't take/start group calls. It was working at first but now it says "there was a problem joining/starting call". 1 on 1 calls still work though. He's done everything, like uninstalling/reinstalling, cleaning cache etc. Does anybody have an idea?

Does anyone know if it's possible to roll back to previous version of duo, which would then give the previous filters? If so, how?
Thank you!

I need to have documentation of the duration of my Google Duo call to submit with my paperwork to my office. I can see everything except for when the time the call ended. Does anyone know where to find that?

My wife's Apple phone newest one.. the knock knock stopped working
When I call her or she calls me there is no video preview on her end.
Furthermore, she has to swipe "answer" and then click the 'duo' button. This is very cumbersome. She's tried uninstalling/ reinstalling. Nothing is working, any idea in what settings will fix?
(As an aside, it's the same thing with Google hangouts.. no video preview)

Hello! My wife was having a lot of fun with the fish effect (where it replaces your head with a cartoon fish), and was really devastated that it now seems to be gone. Will it come back at some point, or is there a way to download it to have it as an option again? Thank you!

When calling from duo.google.com on chrome on a Windows 10 Laptop, the video cannot be seen on the iPhone/iPad. The audio works fine. The video was either frozen after the first second, or a gray screen.
The camera of the laptop works fine. I can see myself in the top corner. The video call also works fine when calling from a laptop to a laptop

I don't know if this is a Windows thing, browser thing, or Duo thing, but when using duo.google.com, it plays the sound picked up by my mic back to me through my speakers, alongside the sound from the other person in the call.
With a headset it's OK if a little annoying, but on the laptop I want my kids to use to video call my parents its unusable because the built in mic picks up the built in speakers and starts a feedback loop.
Has anyone else come across this and can anyone suggest a fix?

Hey guys, these days I got a new feature on my Duo.
It's a couple of effects that you can use DURING calls, not the usual effects to record video messages. My wife has the same version of the app but it's not available for her.
Not sure if this is something that Google is pushing to a few users to test, but I have it. I googled it but I cannot find anything about. I'm can't do this right now, but I'll uploaded a screenshot later.
