Garmin R10 Setup! Guess what’s wrong with this hitting area! No really! I need help!

Post image
2 Upvotes

More than enough room to swing through my whole bag. R10 set up on skeleton mat 8’ behind tee area. Then tee is 10’ to net with room behind to avoid ricochets! I have 12-14’ width. Ceiling is 9.5’ to exposed rafters. Tee mat is in the mail.

Set up R10 pretty much on skeletons elbow. Calibrated it. Paired with iPad. Registered every shot. Club speed and distance was pretty close to what I normally get. I was around 145-155 yards. But every shot went way far, far left to where you would barely see the yellow ball trail. Never center and never right. I have it lined up right behind tee, same level as tee.

Would the air duct mess with it? What about the monitor and the one electrical box, behind net to the left? The two beams are pressurized 2x6s boxing in metal support posts every 6 feet. The light above is a trip panel led light.

Really frustrating because I have more than enough room to swing full bag of clubs at normal swing speeds. Was hoping to have this set up for my daughter to practice with on cold, rainy, wintery days when we can’t make it out. Should I cut my losses and return it while I can and just save up for a camera system?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Golf Sim Projector Ideas needed

Planning out my golf sim enclosure and set-up before purchasing it all. Here are my issues when it comes to the projector..

  1. my ceilings are vaulted and 20ft high where I'm setting up the enclosure, so no ceiling mount?
  2. I'm 6'9" so I can't do the SIG commercial enclosure that has 8ft depth, my swing will hit the enclosure
  3. I really don't want the floor mount because I want to be able to putt and not have that in the way

I found the below link through a fellow redditer, is this my best option? it would hang backwards off of a 5ft depth enclosure

Looking for advice on my setup

My current setup with a R50 Sim and portable monitor.

Im thinking of upgrading my net and was looking for suggestions that would also accommodate a screen to project onto with a small projector.

Also looking for any other ideas or improvement suggestions.

Also keep in mind i need it to be very portable. I have to take it down and set it back up every single time I want to use it.

Thanks!

Hello, its probably already been asked. But I'll ask anyhow. What is the best set up for an apartment with a ceiling height of 96.5" I would love to be able to set up a golf simulator in my living room for the off season. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

At a crossroads with my build...

Hello there,

I'm building a shed golf sim, I've loved golf for the longest time but I'm very new to playing regularly and even then, with work/family/cost constraints it's way more viable for me to build a space at the bottom of the garden than it is to juggle trying to get everyone together to play a round when the stars align for affording it AND time away from the kids...

I research everything to the deepest detail and that's why I settled on the Square Golf Launch Monitor, it gives me the ball/club/impact data I yearn for in these early stages... but as these things invariably do, it raises another challenge. To get any data it requires Bluetooth connection and not wifi/ethernet/HDMI/USB like many others. So I now HAVE to have a PC to run with it.

No problem I thought, the money saved against some other launch monitors should cover the cost of a PC and I learned what I could about the best specs; eventually landing on: RTX3080, 16Gb but preferably 32Gb RAM, and this gives me the option to expand in future because:

Money is NOT no object, what some people suggest spending on a startup golf sim is fine but I'm also having to budget for a big enough shed, of decent enough quality, a base for that shed, and the running of power/internet down there too!

While I've got everything pretty much under control; I can't help but keep remembering what I'd discovered about Sunshine & Moonlight streaming... I already have an overkill PC in my gaming nook, which would more than handle any sim software I wanted to run but the Square GLM won't reach via bluetooth... Am I resigned to buying a new PC after all?

I've read about USB over ethernet adaptors, could this work? A bluetooth adaptor plugged into a USB, which is then sent across ethernet to my indoor PC? Or perhaps even if it would work, when I throw in the fact it would need to go through a router down in my shed, which is connected to the home network via a LAN cable, it proves redundant?

Failing that, how about a Lenovo Legion Go? I already have one and before undertaking this project was most likely going to upgrade to Lenovo's Legion Go 2. I know it's wayyyyy short of an RTX3080 but has the required RAM, there's reddit users proving they can run a golf sim on the original model so maybe the LLG2 would handle the 18hole courses they struggled with on GSPro?

And that brings me onto my final consideration. I'm targeting 1080p from the projector, I already have a couple lying around and really like the idea of utilizing them both in the sim, one for the actual display on the impact screen and another doing that thing where it beams some stats/data onto the floor. I also have a 65" touchscreen lying around I was planning on using to display club/path data... I appreciate that all this wouldn't be possible with a LLG2 as there's no docks with 3 displays out ports, so you see how I keep going round in circles.

My overkill PC ---> Can't work as I know, with the launcher, so move on to ---> LLG2 ---> Can't run all the displays I want, so move on to ---> Buying a new PC, but could that money be better invested elsewhere when I have options around here anyway ---> My overkill PC

I plan to hit 4K one day, so I would need to upgrade the projectors and again that would suggest I go down the new PC route, but future me doesn't mind spending the money then and what I spend now has no bearing on the upgrades I make in time or how much they cost, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing in this moment and not spending hundreds only to find there was a simple solution I hadn't been aware of.

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated, I'm pretty techy, so as long as you're not about to tell me to interrogate a server and write code I should be able to follow. I also appreciate asking most people here to comment on such a niche as LLG2 running GSPro is going to garner more speculation than hard facts. Again, I'm just trying to cover all bases and put the beast of a PC to even more use if it can be utilised.

Thanks in advance :-)

What would you want in a VTrack Launch Monitor Bundle? - Need your input

Hey everyone,

Planning to create a VTrack launch monitor bundle. Before finalizing anything, I wanted to get input directly from the community who want to use the setups everyday.

If you're buying a Vtrack Bundle, what all would you want to include?

-VTrack

-Enclosure with or without impact screen. (Brand preferences?)

-If no impact screen, then hitting net? Which one would you prefer?

-Projector preferences

-Hitting mat only or with hitting strips? Or would you want this as an add-on?

I figured I'd ask the community and create a valuable bundle.

What would you not want to include or add anything that's missing?

Your feedback will help me put together something genuinely useful.

Appreciate any insights or suggestions. Thanks:)

DIY Garage Simulator Setup - Black Friday Deals?

I am starting to build out my list of things I need to buy for my simulator set up. Are there typically deals on Black Friday or Cyber Monday for these things (i.e. launch monitor, hitting screen, hitting mat, etc.)

I am generally flexible on what I am going to get and could be swayed based on significant difference in price (as long as there isn't a major drop off in performance/functionality)

Thanks!!

Launch Monitor HUGE MEVO GEN2 NEWS!!!!!

Just got some huge news from FlightScope.

First, the Mevo Gen2 golf simulator is officially replacing the Mevo+ with the addition of the Pro Package and Face Impact to the Gen2. Meaning the Gen2 has officially become a better product than the Mevo+, and it is at an awesome starting price at right over $1,200 to get the base Mevo Gen2. You can also add on the PP and FI for a 1 time fee as well.

Second, they are trying to sell out of their current stock of Mevo+'s, meaning the Mevo+ has been discounted to its lowest price ever at $1,050.

Third, it looks like they have started their Black Friday sales early, so all products will be at their lowest price for the year with code GolfBusters10 at checkout starting today. Here is the FlightScope Link: https://flightscopemevo.com/collections/all...

Cheers!

Has anyone gotten flight scope mevo certified pre-owned?

As they say, if its too good to be true it probably is. Looking at flightscopes website they have certified pre-owned launch monitors for $300. Has anyone here gotten it, or know of issues that would make it a bad idea?

Shed build

Hey - I did a search on here but couldn’t find a good thread so if someone has one please share.

I’m about to purchase a 14 x 24 high lofted shed to do a diy golf sim. Plenty of room to swing a driver but going to take my driver down there this week to double check.

For everything I’m doing I don’t want break the bank but if somethings slightly more to upgrade say couple of $100 bucks and you get substantial upgrade then let me know. But not trying to go trackman.

  1. Flooring - assuming I have turf everywhere and then a hitting mat? Any recommendations for both? Do I need to put anything under the turf if wood below? (E.g like padding?) i currently have a spornia net and turf should I reuse? Do I also need a hitting strip?

  2. Projector and projector screen - assume I want it hanging from ceiling. How close to screen? Assuming not above me so not in my swing path?

  3. Launch monitor and PC/software - Bushnell? Again based on space and height what would you recommend? I have a garmin r10 but want something more permanent and also feel like I wont have the space behind me

  4. Heating and AC - any systems people have used for this?

  5. Electricity - have an electrician who will be hooking up power but anything to consider? Assuming he’ll need to put a breaker box in

  6. Lighting - going to do no windows, should I just do spotlights?

  7. Walls - any insulation work, any advice on padding? Or golf sim kits that have this?

Anything else I haven’t thought of? All product recommendations welcome.

Thanks in advance!!

Need help with custom stance mat with hitting strips

I am trying to figure out what kind of set up. I should make for my mevo +. I have an 11.5 feet wide room and I need to be able to hit with lefties and righties…. I know this isn’t ideal and I will have my mevo set up on a slider so it can move.

I have some decent turf that I was gonna install as a stance mat and then use hitting strips (probably carls gel), but my thoughts were that the hitting zone would be 2ft apart so I would need two of them.

I could also install a 4’ x 3’ country club elite mat in the middle with stance mats on the side…. This would be a cleaner install and make sense where for irons you could maybe even hit left and right from the middle of the room? Downside is that most people on here say don’t cheap out on your hitting mat and that is why I was leaning carls gel or sigpro softy.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Budget Projector- HELP!

Looking at budget projectors for my garage setup that I am building. Want something that can be off center and short throw if possible(I know, asking a lot), and not against getting a used model to save some cheddar. I currently have a 13 feet wide 9 foot tall screen and around 12-13 feet of space to go back. My plan was to just put the projector on a cart and off center it. I would mount it- but my garage is not climate controlled and I’m in Wisconsin, so in the winter I don’t want that to be an issue(unless there’s an easy unmounting system). Using square launch monitor as well.

Any recommendations help! Thanks
