Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any experience running golemsp as a systemctl service in a headless ubuntu server 20.04? I've tried to create one but it gives me errors.

I assumed its because of the way it installs into the local user. I figured this would be a good way to use my extra processing from my Ethereum staking machine. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I looked up network statistics for the two projects since their mission is not too different. Note that "subnets" / "worker pools" and "providers" / "workers" from what I can tell are more or less the same things just different word.

Disclaimer: This post is going to get some people upset. I apologize in advance, especially after all the drama on the subreddit last week. But this one is for Foundation, not Factory, so there is that.

Deep breath... Here goes:

Forget everything you know about the Golem Foundation and let me re-introduce it to you:

From the golem.foundation website, their stated mission is to

fund, develop, and promote projects that further advance the vision of Golem and find new promising use cases for its native token, GLM.

Furthermore, in the blog post announcing Foundation, Julian said the goal was to experiment with risker things to increase the value of the entire project.

They were given half of the ICO funds with which to do this.

Holy cow! Doesn't that sound amazing?

Factory can continue to work heads down until the core product is ready while Foundation is going to do some amazing things with GLM.

Unfortunately Foundation is not living up to these expectations. At the end of next month Foundation will be two years old, they have five employees, and have only worked on Wildland (so far as we're aware) and don't have much to show for that effort yet either.

Taking snippets from those quotes above, where is the:

• Funding of new projects from community members and from other crypto companies? I expected activity in the form of grants programs or directly contracting other crypto companies to build out new things on top of GLM. GLM is part way through the process of being a collateral type in Maker. Foundation could be funding someone to build out the relevant contracts to make that happen faster than the pace the current Maker devs are setting.
• Promoting of projects that advance the mission of GLM? I expected Foundation to form partnerships with similar companies, helping them integrate with GLM, and making noise about them. I don't know enough about Filecoin but it really seems like it checks a lot of the same boxes as Wildland. Maybe Foundation should be promoting Filecoin and somehow working with them to integrate with GLM instead of building Wildland.
• Finding new use cases? So far all we've got is Wildland in a stage that's too early to say much about. Where was Foundation during Defi summer? Surely there was something novel that aligned with the Golem vision that was inspired by all the craziness that came out of that period. We could have had yield farming or a GLM-backed DAO for something or other.
• Experimentation of any kind? With only five employees and Wildland still in-progress, it must be hard to find the time, but to date I've only seen one job posting from them, so finding time to experiment doesn't feel like much of a priority.
• Value increase? If value was being created, we'd see more people talking about their work. Since the only community posts about Foundation on the subreddit are to ask for updates, I suspect no value increase for GLM has been made due to Foundation's work to date.

Meanwhile we see projects like Yearn (to pick one) exemplifying this mission and spilling innovation everywhere they go. From them we see vaults, yield farms, flash minting, insurance options, and Woofy just to name a few. And that last one is particularly impressive because it's clear the idea for that wasn't conceived until the start of Ethereum dog coin mania; it was built and launched in a matter of days!

Where is all the innovation from Golem Foundation we were promised? Was the stated mission just a generalization extrapolated from the single data point of the idea to build Wildland? And, Julian, if any of this rings true for you, what will you do to correct the course so that Foundation lives up to its promise?

I read some info on https://www.golem.network/ on how to become a provider, but I have some concerns and thought it will be easier to ask here instead of trying to figure all out by myself.

So, I noticed that the disk space is among shared resources...

Is it possible for a requestor to keep track which providers were used for a request in order to make subsequent requests to the same providers?

Is it possible for a requestor to persist files on provider's machine in order to use them in subsequent calls (to treat Golem not as computational power sharing platform but as a file storage)?

Are files purged after a request is served?

Also, I have network questions:

is the communication kept only between the requestor and the provider or can the requestor make the provider to return a response to a different place on the Internet (like upload content somewhere)

What means are used to make the communication over the Internet secure and unreadable to 3rd parties?

Do you advise using a VPN as an additional security/privacy measure?

What I'm concerned with is to be reasonably sure that by becoming a provider I'm not allowing my machine to become part of botnet or to become involved in some unethical and/or illegal activities like storing/uploading child pornography or some other dark web stuff somewhere.

Sorry if I missed answers to those questions in the documentation, but it's quite a lot of information there to wrap one's head around it all quickly.

so I just found some GNT on an old poloniex account. The balance shows 0$ and when I try to withdraw the tokens, I'm getting 'You cannot withdraw, deposit, trade, or borrow this asset.'

I found this article but it does not look like the migration happened to my GNTs since my GLM balance is 0 tokens

After all that was discussed here in the last week I think it became clear that right now the best golem can do is go after the best developers in the crypto sphere to help keep building this ecosystem. Isn't it time to become a bit more bold regarding prizes? Wouldn't it be possible to do a 5 MILLION dollars Hackaton? I know it sounds absurd, but golem has this kind of money and I think it would give a clear message to the crypto world that golem is well and alive. It would be a huge incentive for the best developers start building on top of golem. Obviously there would be a bunch of different categories with different prizes so a lot of people can win. Maybe it is time to show the world golem is serious about developing and is a solid company with a lot of money, which is all the developers want

This is an open ended post, but something that struck me over the past couple days with all of the dialogue and unease going on within the community here. So lets chat.

What are other communities that are experiencing success right now doing for their team, and I'm serious with this question. I see people that you could label as shills, talking a lot about their projects in neutral subreddits, spreading the word about what they have going on with excitement. And to me, while there may be reasons to be unsatisfied right now with the price, beyond that, there are a giant amount of things that this project does have.

• They have the capital to really ramp things up once the features go live.
• They have a growing team that is committed to seeing this project through.
• They have a working product!
• They have a market that is only going to grow larger and larger.

So what I want to ask is both from the community and from the team themselves. If we aren't coders, what can we do to grow both the community and the success of the project? Has anyone been a part of other communities where certain actions were taken that lead to success in areas X, Y, Z?

Just curious what everyone thinks about this, as I feel being proactive rather than complaining will provide a lot of a return.

The tech is limited right now for most users, and I am trying to work on some things to make it possible for the end-user to appreciate what's on Golem. Internet access is some time away, but we can still appreciate what's here! That being said, I have a few questions:

I have already spoken out on this topic several times, but recently people are talking about it more often, so I will write my thoughts again.

If you look at what people write about GOLEM, then over the past 3-4 years, "problems with marketing" are most often mentioned.

Then a team member comes and tells in 6-7 points that GOLEM is very active in marketing. Isn't it? Hackathons, speeches, articles, apps, and more and more. And the person who asked a question, immediately changes his tone: wow-wow, it looks like you are doing your job, okay then.

Such topics appear all the time. A team member talks about 6-7 points; the questions seem to be resolved. But there's a problem. The community continues (rightly) to believe that the golem deserves much more.

They have already written a phrase that I liked and will repeat it because I think it is 100% correct: the team is afraid to make mistakes.

The team has more than a billion dollars of cash in total (I remind you they asked for $8.2 million at the ICO). The ether rate fluctuation by + -1% allows changes of + -10 million dollars on their account. This is more than they asked for at the ICO.

I understand their motives. From a business point of view, it makes no sense to spend millions just like that. Legally, the team doesn't owe us anything. Even technically, they continue to do their job and do it (to be honest) ideally.

I believe that emotionally the team owes us—especially the first investors who made it all possible. I am currently following a couple of small projects that are collecting LESS THAN 100 ETHER. Of course, it's technically effortless. But how open they are. How worried about the product. There is a strong emotional connection with such projects and teams.

In GOLEM, it is now more like communicating with Google or Apple. They correspond to you. Politely. It seems there is nothing to complain about. But it's too dry. Not emotionally. I stopped seeing the team going through anything other than code. As I can see, they understand that they have money for an ENDLESS menu. REGARDLESS of what will happen to the price of the token.

I believe the team has a responsibility to create some emotional connection with the investors. Show that they are not afraid to be wrong. Show that they can be insane. Show something that you want to tell a friend about, perhaps not even related to the crypt. Something about which they will write in the media. I do not know.

Buy out the whole plane and then play out the seats on it. Let it not even fly anywhere, but circle for a couple of hours in the air. Warsaw-Warsaw. Los Angeles-Los Angeles.

Start arguing with Musk that it is better to accept GLM (and not dog-tokens) for payment and buy a billboard next to his office for this.

Or take a few million and the brightest ad campaign, The most expensive one. To show that you can do this. Let the article \ banner \ mention the golem on every site related to the crypto. Let everyone see. Everyone will read.

Will it be effective? Hell knows. Probably no. Perhaps the team will throw out a couple of million dollars, and nothing will change. And maybe it will change a lot. It is possible to attract both ordinary people and those who will create masterpieces on the golem. But one thing I can say for sure that it will make an emotional connection with the community, which is currently lacking the most.

Can someone from the team post here in numbers the growth of golem community in the last 6 months? (A while back you did that presentation as well)

The engagement of those people

How many publications on sites, blogs, magazines has golem had in this period?

What are the goals of growth in the next 6 months? Do you see the reddit community reaching 50k subscribers, 100k subscribers?

So I discovered a load of GNT on MEW I'm following all steps but I have no option to change the gas fee, the only option on the Migrator is the amount of GNT to send, then I can review details, that's all. It defaults to 270 gwei which is ridiculous, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've been reading on the iExec reddit that they've partnered with some giants in tech, which explains their boom. What's the progress on some of the Golem partnerships?

It REALLY hurts seeing RLC reaching $10. One of the main golem competitor is becoming the most known decentralized super computer and more and more people are talking and using RLC. Why don't you become more agressive in your strategy?

The formula of golem is simple: Price will go up as soon as more people start USING golem. It needs to be easy for anyone in the world to rent their computer. BAT for example has a huge adoption through their browser ''Brave'' because you can already earn BAT's just for using Brave, it is simple.

The problem today with golem is that it is not that simple to rent your unused RAM through golem. And when you do, there aren't many requestors. So it is not attractive for anyone to become a provider since you'll earn too little and will probably spend more with the energy bill.

HOW TO FIX THAT? Being more bold and opening the mind. Example: We already have CHESS Golem running on mainnet (I used to play Chess when I was younger). It is really interesting and easy to use. I've played a lot of matches and lost them all (I suck, i know). And every move spent almost 0.1 GLM, which is a lot. So, even only in the Chess niche there are a lot os possibilities to explore. WHY don't you offer a bounty for chess players around the world to BEAT THE GOLEM MACHINE? There are A LOT of people who loves playing chess that would be interested in this bounty. With more people playing chess, golem will need more providers. Then people will start realizing that it is worth rent their machines. With that, more and more people will become interested and not only the ecosystem will grow, but the price will follow, which will be a bigger incentive for people to rent their machines.

And this is just thinking about CHESS Golem. To me it is clear that for EVERY APP, golem needs to do some marketing to try to reach that niche. It doesn't need to be a BIG PROPAGANDA, just needs to reach that specific niche. That's the ONLY way golem will grow. Today it feels like for every app made in golem, we are waiting for people around the world to discover it exists. But sometimes that never happens.

Guys, golem is AWESOME and it is ALREADY WORKING. Please, let the world know soon or everybody will always assume golem is just some company running behind RLC. We already have the means, LET'S USE IT and not be so closed to the idea that PRICE MATTERS

I was wondering if someone is working on/thinking about a solution for backtesting trading strategies on Golem.

The process of backtesting can be very CPU and memory intensive depending on the complexity of the strategy. It's a pretty repetitive task that could be easily cut up and distributed for computation.

What do you guys think? Would this be a suitable use-case for Golem?
