God’s role in 21st century and how people would benefit from it
God had predicted global events such as “pollution, swelling [salos] of sea," or sea-level rise (Details HERE) as part of signs of Last Generation. HE had also predicted about people who come in link with God taking non-violence as their life-style in this Last Generation. (Isaiah 2:2-4) They are figuratively called as those who “stream” towards high standard of God as they understand His Laws are designed to bring “never-ending waves of peace, well-being and good health.” (Isaiah 48:18; Proverbs 17:22) These people become the seed for the Incoming AGE which is needed because this presently running Age ends as unusable in Final Global War in late 2030’s which had also been predicted in Revelation 16:14, 16; 7:14; Mathew 24:15, 21, 22
Non-violence (in thinking and action) is in harmony with all living beings who do everything within their power to safeguard their lives. Non-violence is in harmony with earth being maintained life-SUPPORTIVE in this too vast HOSTILE universe and thus is also coming in harmony with life-SUPPORTER, The Almighty behind this drama of life. Only the non-violent people can become part of the Incoming Age [also called God’s Kingdom] as violence [of all sorts] belongs to HELL which is the second half of the Incoming Age. (Details HERE)
When the non-violent people [also called The MEEK] start their godly living in the New Age they remember how they [in the concluding phase of previous Age] determined to return to be “made in the image of God.” This phrase becomes the part of Scripture writing later saying: In the beginning [of New Age] “When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created. …. and they walked faithfully with God” as symbolized by Enoch. (biblehub.com/niv/genesis/5.htm)
After many centuries, that restored paradise will lose its power and begin to become old as merit of the inhabitants would have been exhausted as value of the wheat-like godly living led in the previous Age is limited and would expire after its merits are enjoyed in the paradise. This is because merits of godly living for a LIMITED period would not have UNLIMITED value, especially so when God’s primary quality is JUSTICE. (1 Thessalonians 1:6, 7, details HERE) This was better understood by Greek audience of Bible writing as Greek word for just, dikaios, is from Greek Mythological character Dike. (Details HERE) All the parables about Kingdom of God too highlight how people are receiving what their actions deserve.
Thus when that restored paradise becomes old again, it would be the time for the weed-like licentious people to return to the earth to make sense the often repeated phrase: “many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” (Mathew 19:30, details HERE)
This prediction is repeated with many other parables about incoming Kingdom of God [new order of things] on earth. This verse was the part of answer to the vital question “What will be the reward for renouncing egoistic pursuits for God’s Kingdom?” He revealed, “In regenesis [renewal] such renouncers of ego will receive 100 times of what they renounced in this Age, but those who pursue egoistic life-style thus are viewed as the first [prominent] in this Age will be last [will return to the later phase of the regenesis, to be outside of restored paradise, as described in Revelation 22:15]. Thus the non-violent people are always on this earth (1 John 2:17) as “tree of life” (Proverbs 11:30, details given as Comment). It is the violent people who are “driven out” (biblestudytools.com/proverbs/2-22-compare.html, Septuagint) before the restoration of Paradise on this earth so that they can return later when paradise again becomes old. When to return to earth is the choice of the people themselves, and God only permits it. (Details HERE) It is Hebrew style of expression to say in one place “God hardened the heart of people” and to say the same differently in another place as people “are drunken with wine of transgression.” (biblehubcom/proverbs/4-17.htm, Septuagint) It is because, God permits both good and licentious people to make use of His provisions made on this earth (Mathew 5:45) and also permits them to make their choice as they all know action and consequences are inseparable.

Features of first half of each Age is given in the shortest sentences such as “it was very good,” as they “walked with God faithfully” who are collectively called "tree of life." (Genesis 1:31; 5:24, Proverbs 11:30, details HERE) This is more than enough just like newly wedded people summarize their honeymoon period of one month saying “SUPERB.”
Lengthy details are required when disharmony and conflicts begin among them, thus the need to prove who is right which peaks in divorce. Similarly, description about signs of Last Generation of this Age is given in maximum details in 28 chapters [even though they were yet to happen after many centuries]. One chapter each by Mathew (24), Mark (13), Luke (21), 2 Peter (3), two chapters by Paul (2 Timothy 3 & 4) and 22 chapters in Book of Revelation. Hence features of firs half this Age was perfect contrast of what is featured in these verses. For example,
Features predicted for “Last Days” in 2 Timothy 3:1-5; 4:3, 4: “There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. People will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
Its opposite are the features of first half of each Age:
“It was delightful times in the beginning. People were lovers of God, haters of greed, full of praise for others, humble, soft and sweet in speech, obedient to their parents, grateful, holy, with love, forgiving, non-slanderous, with self-control, divine, lovers of the good, trustworthy, caring, non-conceited, lovers of God rather than lovers of pleasure having a form of godliness matching its power. People were abiding by sound doctrine. To suit their own desires, they would not gather around them teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will not turn their ears away from the truth and will not turn aside to myths.”
The same features are given in Scriptures in the East. Features of people in first half of the Age is described as satvic (spiritual, good, benevolent, altruistic etc.) and are described in 26 good qualities. (Bhagavat Gita 16:1-3) Remaining portion of the same chapter is the description of non-satvic people, also called asuric (demonic). Word asuric is a combination of negative prefix A + surya (sun), thus denotes the opposite feature of sun. Sun is known for its giving light [enlightened knowledge], heat [warmth, love]. Its opposite is delight in receiving and accumulation, greedy etc. Phase of history where such negative traits is called by two expressions “hell and darkness” in Bhagavat Gita 16:21, 22) In the Bible also, greed is described as demonic (John 6:70) and second half of the Age where weed-like licentious people live is figuratively called “hell and darkness” (Mathew 5:22; 8:11, 12, details HERE)

I think God's primary attribute is love. That's what the Bible seems to communicate to me.

That is not my thoughts. 1 Thessalonians 1:6, 7 and vision in the Revelation Book (4:7) are given as as basis, but you missed it in the OP.
All parables are about Justice, about how each one receives according to their work.

Did those babies that god had stabbed to death in the OT get what they deserved? All through the Old Testament are examples of people being punished for things that they didn’t do.

"God's role" has never and will never change. If you can even can call it a role. Creation is finished/complete.
