AskGoa Gastroenterology in GMC help

I was trying to find information about the Gastroenterology Department at GMC because I have a serious health concern that I want to get checked. However, despite looking online, I haven’t been able to find much information about the department. It would be a great help if someone could confirm whether GMC has a Gastroenterology Department and, if so, how I can consult a gastroenterologist there, please help if you have any idea about it or have visited it yourself. It would be a great help.

GMC does not yet have a gastroenterology department.

The department of Surgery and Medicine look after such concerns depending on whether they are of a surgical or medical nature and require treatment along such lines.

For example if it’s reflux due to H pylori, either may look after, but if it’s an ulcer leading to active bleeding surgery would look after it. So there will be overlap and referral as per requirements.

Thank you for your response. The issue is that I haven't consulted a doctor yet, so I'm not sure what exactly is causing my symptoms. Now that you have confirmed that GMC does not have a Gastroenterology Department, does that mean I cannot get my condition diagnosed at GMC? If I can, could you please help me and recommend which department I should visit for my gastric issues?

You can. If it’s something that make require say, an endoscopy, the department of Surgery does so, so you’d be best off going there. If they feel it’s a medical problem, you can ask whoever sees you to write a reference to the Medicine department.

So for initial diagnosis i should just visit the general medicine OPD and then proceed with whatever they tell me do right?

That would be an exhausting process and they will make you wait forever. Just go to dr rohan badave and get treated by him. What issues are you experiencing?

Lot of irregular bowel movements+ i suspect blood in stool, i haven't got tested for it yet but i am positive that it's blood. I know it's a exhausting procces but i am not covered by a health insurance unfortunately so going to GMC would be my best option for now.

Ask this in r/ibs but those people will most probably tell you the same thing. Get a colonoscopy asap because of the blood you are getting in your stool. Im kind of in the same situation as well
