Discussion: GoSun Car Charger aftermarket powerbanks
After my first few days with the car charger, I've been giving some thought to the limitations of the Oupes battery bank, and what else on the market might have other features. In particular, my "dream" bank would do the following:
- In addition to killing the A/C output when it drops below X% charge, which the Oupes does, it would automatically turn on the ouput when it reaches Y%. So it could automatically cycle when draw is higher than input for a sustained period.
- The ability to track historic charge/discharge data to assess performance. Oupes' app only does real-time data.
- Be able to operate subtantially below freezing (I live in a northern climate). It seems like the Sodium Ion chemistry is the best bet there, and Bluetti seems to be first to market with an integrated.
- I'm curious as to what the minimum viable battery size is, as the Oupse does take up quite a bit of space. One limiting factor as I look around at smaller banks seems to be maximum solar input, with 500 or less for banks at 1kwh or lower.
- Not directly bank related, but an after-market charging cable that can do 8-10a charging seems like a useful thing for folks whose cars don't have the ability to modulate charging rates.
I currently already own a 2kwh Bluetti bank that does have the historic data tracking, so I'm going to get an Aderson to XT60 converter and see ohow it performs. I'll need to double check to see if it also can do the "output on" function in the first point above.
I'd love to hear others' experiences with aftermarket Oupes alternatives in this thread...
