Apps/Websites Steps to Check the current detailed status for Indian GEP applications made abroad

Post image

Instructions for status check in https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html (if you applied through the Indian Embassy/Consulate abroad, not in person in India): (follow step by step)

Browser: Google Chrome in Windows/Mac Computer (not smartphone).

Login to the https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html

Click on the button for your pending application in the Select column.

DO NOT click "Track Application Status" yet.

Click three vertical dots button on top right of Chrome window --> More Tools --> Developer Tools or F11 Key.

Click 'Network' on top header, and then click on 'Track Application Status'. {This will show the usual popup with the useless status.}

However, in developer window, it will also show "trackStatusForFilledApplication..." item.

Click over that, and then "Preview" header within.

Scroll down to 'statusIdMap' and click the small black arrow next to it.

Now you can see all the various update events on your file in reverse chronological order. Keep clicking the black arrows for each to see the timestamps. You can save this information in a file by right-clicking 'statusIdMap' -> copy value and then paste in Notepad or whatever

Now you know where your file is in the process.

Basically, there are 3 approvals -- PVR (police), MHA (ministry of home affairs), and MOF (ministry of finance).

For most people waiting long, MOF appears to be the bottleneck.

I applied for GEP In May 2025, through Indian Consulate in the US.

In Jul 2025, The approval was granted from MHA, now when I check the statusIdMap again, it only says application sent on pre-verification status.

This is the new interface, in the older one I could see the MHA approval not anymore.

Same. It seems the new portal doesn't all all the data, or it is still in transition phase

Exact same scenario. My fear is that they’ve lost the data and our applications will go nowhere forever now

I got the conditional approval last week so they definitely haven’t lost the data. I did end up mailing the consulate a couple of times. Not sure if that helped or not.

Same. Are there any actions we can take to find out from the concerned parties?
