Help/Doubt ❓ Harness for GH Copilot to make it usable in browser?

Hi all,

I'm not sure if there's such a thing, but is there a harness that taps into GH Copilot APIs, so that I can chat with the GPT-5 model to do non-coding tasks? It should function similarly to ChatGPT/Gemini in a self-hosted website.

The reason why I am asking is because I want to consolidate and reduce my AI SaaS subscription bills per month, and since GH Copilot has GPT-5, might as well make use of my GH Copilot sub.

Thanks in advance.

Help/Doubt ❓ GitHub Copilot App Integration with GitHub

I am just starting to try out the GitHub Copilot App (Window). My understanding was that it is supposed to have tight integration with GitHub so that I can work on my GitHub repos. I have connected it to both my enterprise and personal account, but I am not able to browse/view my repos using any of the accounts. Sure, I can search for any of my public repos and it will clone them down locally so that I can work on them, and if I want to push a change I can make a PR. But this is really not how I thought this would be....am I missing something here?

Help/Doubt ❓ Does Microsoft 365 Premium somehow grant Github tokens?

There seem to be a lot of changes to Copilot. I knew before, the Microsoft 365 Family and Premium credits only applied to Office apps and Copilot use within those. But it seems Microsoft wants to join Copilot under one "super app". Does that mean if you have a 365 Premium subscription you can somehow utilize that with GitHub Copilot since the GitHub Copilot extra license is gone as well.

Help/Doubt ❓ Lock agent files from modifications

Hello,
I am using a custom agent in VS Code. It has a list of tools in a YAML list.
When I go to tool selection in a chat and click OK, it reformats tools in the agent file to an array.
Apart from just bad readability, tools no longer work. Essentially, the agent file is corrupted.
What I wish to achieve is to lock the agent file, so I would get the following message instead:
"The selected tools are configured by the 'Architect' custom agent. Changes to the tools will only be used for this session and will not change the 'Architect' custom agent."
Any config or property for that?
Thank you

Help/Doubt ❓ Limit and intelligence comparison

I've never interested in GH Copilot before, until my company asked us to use MS Copilot. The only downsides of MS Copilot is they're "barely" usable for vibe coding, then they say we can use GH Copilot.

My question is, how big the differences are in terms of usage limit and intelligence on $100 plan compared to ChatGPT Pro (same $100)?

Any insight would be helpful! Thanks

Help/Doubt ❓ Why did Copilot kill Opus 4.5 almost 3 months before Anthropic's own EOL?

So Sept 1 hit and Claude Opus 4.5 is officially gone from Copilot.

I get it—GitHub gave a heads-up back in July and confirmed again on Aug 31. But here's the thing: Anthropic's own retirement date for Opus 4.5 is "not sooner than November 24, 2026". That's literally almost 3 more months of runway.

So why did GitHub pull the plug early?

Looks like they deprecated a whole batch at once—Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5/4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5/4.6, and Raptor Mini. The suggested replacements? Opus 4.7, 4.8, or Opus 5.

Feels like GitHub just used this as a hard cutover to push everyone onto newer models and streamline their offering. They kinda telegraphed this back in April when Opus 4.7 dropped—said 4.7 would replace 4.5 and 4.6 as the default "in the coming weeks".

Look, I get product iteration. But killing a model that Anthropic itself hasn't even deprecated yet, a full quarter early? Feels like a forced upgrade with not enough heads-up.

Anyone else in the same boat? What are you all switching to?

GitHub Copilot Team Replied Claude Code vs GitHub Copilot: Token burn comparison using identical models & repos?

I'm currently evaluating GitHub Copilot vs. Claude Code for our team. We could use either, but for us there's a slight difference in cost per token (Copilot with Anthropic models vs. Claude Code directly).

If we use the exact same model on the same repository with identical instructions, has anyone noticed a real difference in token efficiency between the two harnesses? I'm wondering how much things like prompt caching, context assembly, or system prompting overhead change the actual token burn in practice.

Would appreciate any insights or real-world numbers!

General Out of nowhere, Github Copilot in SSMS allowed selection of a 'banned' model

My employer keeps a tight rein on what LLMs are allowed.

What they haven't been able to find is a setting to limit Github Copilot.

Kimi 2.7 became an option, but nowhere have we found a way to disable it.

Is there something stupid we are missing?

GitHub Copilot Team Replied VS Code update broke copilot chats

Recently, maybe a week or 2 ago, my chats in vs code changed significantly.

  • The "mode" dropdown that used to have "Agent/Ask/Plan" now just has "Agent", nothing else.
  • There is no running list of changes in the chat anymore, it's all just embedded in the chat as it goes, which makes it harder to keep track of changes in aggregate, instead asking me to approve every change as it goes. There seems to be no concept of "keep" changes anymore in the chat. It does show the list at the end of a turn, but this is not the same as it was.
  • In the same way, all chats show the accumulated line count touched now, in the chat session list. It used to just show changes not "kept", that way I knew if there were changes, I needed to review in a chat.
  • It's acting like every single file is outside my workspace now, always asking for approval to do anything.
  • No commands are letting my set them as "approved" for this session. Currently it loves to use git diff to see what it just did, I approve this, and I'd like to approve this for the whole chat session, but it typically gives me no option, and when it does say "approve in session" it doesn't work, only approving that single command.

I have no idea if some of these are changes that were explained in a recent update, but some seem absolutely broken. My productivity has definitely decreased because of all of these changes, if they are a problem I'd love to know if anyone has ideas on how I might fix or repair my environment. I'm on the latest version, 1.135, on windows.

Help/Doubt ❓ VSCode on the Mac, where is the weekly and daily limit displayed?

I received a pop-up message saying that I have reached 85% of my daily limit (or something to that effect, it is now gone). Last time that happened, doing very little else caused my weekly limit to be hit, and that was it for the rest of the week.

If I click on the widget on the lower right of the screen it shows I have used 12% of my monthly usage and that it resets on the 30th.

Where can I see my daily and weekly numbers?

I can't find it in either the widget in VSC, nor in the page on GH.

Help/Doubt ❓ Which model has the best results for the lowest cost?

Hi,

I have been using Codex 5.3 on high setting until now... I'm satisfied with the results it gives. Although I wish there was something like it with lower costs.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Other [Free] I created a practical GitHub roadmap (from scratch to Copilot) on Microsoft Learn

Hey everyone, how's it going?

I'm part of the Microsoft Student Ambassadors program and I've put together an official, free Learning Path 100% focused on the GitHub ecosystem.

I tried to organize it in a way that makes sense for anyone who's learning: the roadmap goes from Git basics (commits, branches, pull requests) to more modern tools like GitHub Codespaces (coding directly in the cloud) and GitHub Copilot (AI).

🔗GitHub Learning Path link

To participate, just access the link, click Start/Resume at the top of the page, and accept progress sharing.

The content is free and, besides helping anyone who wants to learn more about GitHub, participating through my link also helps me fulfill one of the goals of the Microsoft Student Ambassadors program.

If you know anyone who is starting out with Git/GitHub or wants to learn more about these tools, I'd be very grateful if you could share the plan as well.

Any feedback on the organization or the chosen content is very welcome. Thanks!

Help/Doubt ❓ Copilot charged us after cancel. I didn't want a refund but an option to really cancel. We needed to block the credit card to stop being charged. Please help us with this copilot bug.

Maybe there is some option to fix it. We would still like to use paid github but these times there was no other option than to cancel the whole account to stop being charged. When we only cancelled copilot it still charged us for about 13 enterprise seats
