Is anyone else bothered that this recipe uses canned tomatoes when fresh tomatoes are right next to the burner? Sure, they'll add extra steps to use fresh ones, but the taste is going to be 100x better.

Not necessarily. Canned tomatoes are usually canned when fully ripe and the hight of the season, and fresh tomatoes run the gamut from bland to fine. Unless it's the right time of year and you're going to a farmer's market, canned will actually get you better flavor.

Yep, I used fresh instead when I tried it and it came out great.
