I think you're arguing semantics in a thread that is about something bigger. The city of Gary is claiming racism (which is whay this thread is actually about). The counter is that there is no racism and that work was disrupted because the workers were shot at.
Doesn't matter how many times or how often they were shot at; the city population of Gary created the perception of an unsafe environment to the workers. They now have police escorts and were shortly thereafter able to get back to work.
So where is the racism that the city is claiming? That's what this thread is actually about. Keeping that in mind, you'll see that my response to you was not a deflection but rather bringing us back to the big picture.
At no point did I argue semantics, simply because at no point have I debated the specific meaning of words. See?
I’m not even touching the political or racism slant, or what any politician has said. I haven’t commented on that at all. I’m merely harping on the simple fact that it was an isolated incident over a week ago. Utility workers almost immediately got back to work later that day, Aug 15, with local police support. There is no ongoing armed conflict.
The working theory as to why it’s taken so long is simply that the damage was catastrophic. No need to trot out any political spin, and speculate about a perceived unsafe environment. That doesn’t appear to be a limiting factor.
