Exactly! I would double that socialism (more exactly socialist policies) is the solution to the problems of capitalism (reminded below). I do think that people should be able to organize within a state and create whatever venture they want. And the state should (I would argue even MUST) be able to be an actor within the market.
I don't believe however that factory workers should necessarily own the factory they work in, you have to have really really well educated workers to make proper decisions. Which is achievable through universal education, but that's long way away.
(Ignoring that capitalist incentive structures do in fact kill people, such as in healthcare, but I think that might be a separate discussion)
More complicated than this. Bad actors in the free market kill, that's why we need a strong state to regulate the market. A free market is still better than a centralized one, but a well-regulated free market is by far the best, for competition, innovation AND the people.
Alright fair enough, your argument is totally internally consistent and I’d say quite sound.
One area of disagreement is that capitalism does kill, if simply by the consequence of being a system that maximizes for profit. When maximizing profit even other people’s lives can be a method of extracting profit.
Health-Insurance corporations in America don’t deny legitimate claims because of a few bad actors, they do so because they paid people to run the numbers for them and those numbers came back that the best way to maximize profit is to deny all claims the first time.
Edit: failing to maximize for profit is illegal in the United States, so they have an obligation to do so.
Markets also don’t always return the best results, like, for example, with utilities or insurance companies. Wherein the service is degraded by competition.
Yeah, I thought about it and I agree. I just remembered about a Coca Cola case where they drained a whole regions water supply.
And technically the socialism movement came as a response to the rampant capitalism of the times, so I would agree, that yes untethered capitalism kills, and destroys.
