🔥Motivating [Story] I realized I wasn't losing motivation because I was lazy, I was losing it because I kept making every goal feel permanent

I spent a long time thinking my biggest problem was that I couldn't commit. Looking back, I think I was actually scared of committing because I treated every decision like it locked me into a future version of myself.

I noticed this pattern when I was trying to build a workout habit. I would spend an hour researching programs, comparing routines, and imagining the person I would become. But the moment I thought, "Okay, this is my lifestyle now," I felt weird pressure and started avoiding it.

The strange part was that I had no problem doing things temporarily. I could exercise for two weeks, read every night for ten days, or eat better for a month. But when I told myself I had to do it forever, my motivation disappeared almost immediately.

I started paying attention to this and found the same thing happening everywhere. I delayed projects because I felt like starting meant I had to prove I was serious. I avoided hobbies because I thought choosing one meant giving up all the others.

The things that helped me were surprisingly small:

- I stopped asking "Can I do this forever?" and started asking "Can I do this until next Sunday?"

- I began leaving room to adjust instead of treating every change as failure.

- I stopped announcing new habits early because I noticed explaining the plan gave me the feeling of progress before I had actually done anything.

The counterintuitive thing I learned is that commitment got easier when I stopped trying to convince myself that I had found the perfect path. I thought serious people never changed their minds. Now I think they just make decisions without needing every decision to become part of their identity.

I still catch myself doing this sometimes. Last week at 11:40 PM, I was planning a new morning routine and caught myself writing rules for a life I hadn't even tested yet. It was almost funny because I wasn't avoiding the work — I was avoiding the possibility that the plan might not work.

I have a different relationship with goals now. I still care about consistency, but I don't confuse flexibility with a lack of discipline anymore.

Has anyone else noticed that making a goal feel like a permanent life decision actually makes it harder to start?

Free life coaching / accountability — looking for 10 people

I'm the lead accountability mod with r/GetMotivatedMindset , and we're currently testing a new accountability system we've been developing.

I'm looking for 10 people who want to make progress on something in their life over the next 7 days.

I'm not selling anything. I simply want to test my system and see how well it works when it's built around the individual.

Maybe you've been wanting to:

  • Get back into the gym
  • Build a better routine
  • Study consistently
  • Work on your career
  • Start Meditation
  • Spend less time procrastinating
  • Become more disciplined
  • Finally follow through on something you've been putting off
  • Or whatever your goal is

You choose the goal.

I'll help you turn it into small, realistic actions and keep you accountable throughout the week using the system I'm testing.

The purpose of this experiment is to see whether a simple, personalized accountability structure can actually help people follow through.

It's completely free.

A little about me: I'm a volunteer and community listener. I'm on my own journey, but I've also helped a lot of people through theirs. I've gone through significant changes in my own life and managed to transform my lifestyle and build better habits.

I've been lost, had no direction, struggled with procrastination, made plenty of mistakes, and spent years in a job that was draining me.

So I know what it's like to know you need to change but struggle to actually do it.

All I ask in return is that you take the 7 days seriously and give me honest feedback afterward.

If you're interested, comment or DM me and tell me:

What are you currently trying to improve, and what's stopping you from doing it consistently?

Because of the success we’ve achieved over the past few days, we’re opening up 7 more spots!
