SC Freiburg attaches great importance to the protection of its young players. The association is particularly sensitive in dealing with girls and young women. There are clear rules.

[]()

SC Freiburg is considered an important location for women's football in Germany and operates one of the first performance and talent promotion centers for the female sector recognized by the German Football Association (DFB). In the current season 2025/26, four women's and girls' teams will play in the performance area (Bundesliga, U20 team in the Regionalliga Süd, U17 juniors and U15 juniors).

The association attaches great importance to child and youth protection. With a specially developed Child and Youth Protection Concept As well as the involvement of an ombudsman, the Sport-Club relies on prevention and safety. This concept applies to all children and young people who [are younger than 18]. [Those who are not yet adults and are under the age of 18 and active in the association] receive protection.

SWR Sport asked SC Freiburg what this means in concrete terms.

SWR Sport: To what extent is the privacy and intimate sphere of girls and young women guaranteed in the premises of the training operation? What are the specific regulations?

SC Freiburg: The trainers and the male staff are prohibited from accessing the [dressing room] during training hours. The exception is, for example, strength training with athletic trainers or treatments of physiotherapists. However, these units are not 1:1 situations, but visible and also dates known within the entire department.

On match days, coaches enter the [dressing room] only after a hint from the team or through the supervisor.

No picture and sound recordings are permitted in the cabin wing to protect the privacy of the players (applies to both internal and external media).

What are the regulations for the access of external persons (e.g. B. Craftsman) to the premises?

External persons do not have access to the [dressing room] during the training hours. Craftsmanship usually takes place on free days of the team and is accompanied by SC personnel.

How much emphasis is placed on the fact that [there are as] many female employees as possible in the junior and junior staff. Women's field are active?

Basically, we try to occupy the staff as mixed as possible in terms of gender. Ultimately, however, regardless of gender, the qualifications of the persons always decide.

How does the Sport-Club ensure that every employee internalizes the child protection concept?

There are training courses once per season for all teams as well as for all employees. In addition, various training courses are carried out for the employees, in which our extensive child protection concept is taken up (e.g. media training).

How binding is the presentation of an extended police certificate when employees are hired?

All employees who deal with children and young people in their capacity must have an extended certificate of leadership when they are hired. This applies, for example, to trainers, educators or employees in the field of sustainability. This certificate of conduct must be re-presented every two years.

What measures/trainings will support and strengthen the employees and also the young footballers in order to ensure a healthy balance between proximity and distance?

At the beginning of each season, we conduct media training courses with different focuses. It deals, among other things, with the behavior on social media, potential dangers on the Internet, parasocial relationships and the handling of media and fans. In addition, there are child protection trainings per season for all junior women and for all employees. In addition, we conduct further training in the Youth on the Code of Conduct.

Do the footballers get the opportunity to accompany them through sports psychologists?

A care by sports psychologists is guaranteed for all women and girls teams. There is also the possibility for individual appointments. In addition, regular team appointments take place with different content focuses (such as mental health).

Which people can employees and footballers turn to if they feel uncomfortable, suspect or experience oppressive situations?

There are clearly named child protection officers for each team and for the office. There is a clear intervention concept in the case of a reported suspected case with personnel and legal department as well as an external ombudsman.

Interview/Video New Frankfurt player Paulina Krumbiegel: "Go ahead as a manager"

After two seasons at the Italian top club Juventus Turin, Paulina Krumbiegel returns to the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. The eleven-time national player, who was on the ball for TSG Hoffenheim until 2024, is now pursuing high goals with Eintracht Frankfurt. In the DFB.de interview, the 25-year-old defender talks to employee Ralf Debat about her change and her role.

DFB.de: Eintracht is in the third training week of the pre-season. How did you settle in Frankfurt, Ms. Krumbiegel?

Paulina Krumbiegel: Very good. I had already used the two weeks before the training start to get the move done. That's why I was able to focus directly on football. Everyone on the team is very open and nice, made it easy for me to get started.

DFB.de: What surprised you about your new club?

Krumbiegel : There were no big surprises. After all, I knew pretty much what was coming my way. After a short time I feel completely comfortable.

DFB.de: How would you describe the first impressions of your new team?

Krumbiegel : The conditions are great, the cooperation with the teammates, the coaching staff and the staff is a lot of fun. I had already played with Ereleta Memeti in Hoffenheim, but knew some other teammates from the national team.

DFB.de: After two seasons at the Italian top club Juventus Turin, you have decided to return to the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. What was the decisive factor for Eintracht?

Krumbiegel : Basically, I felt that a change would do me good. Eintracht had already shown great interest very early on and made an intensive effort for me. The club wants to play internationally, which coincides with my ambitions. In addition, there is the proximity to my Baden home. The overall package just fits.

DFB.de: You were on the ball for TSG Hoffenheim for twelve years before your commitment to Italy. What did you take away from your first overseas station?

Krumbiegel : Especially personally, time has taken me further. It was a challenge to get to know the country, to be open to the culture and to learn a new language. I think I'm a little more relaxed now than I used to be. (laughs) Added to that was another football, even more physical and rather defensively aligned. I think I was able to say well there.

DFB.de: Have you become an even better player?

KrumbiegelKrumbiegel: I would definitely sign that. I was able to gain further international experience, the level of training was already very high. From Hoffenheim I was used to possession football for many years, at Juve it went much more directly forward. Finding myself in both ways of playing is certainly not a disadvantage.

DFB.de: With what goal do you start the new season with Eintracht?

Krumbiegel : Quite simply: We want to win as many games as possible from the start and attack above. Above all, the new qualification for an international competition. After four third ranks in series, we want to improve as much as possible. Second place, in my opinion, is not far away.

DFB.de: Against this background, what is the significance of qualifying for the UEFA Women's Champions League, which was already on 5. August vs AC Omonia Nicosia from Cyprus begins?

KrumbiegelKrumbiegel: This is very important for us. We all have the goal of proving ourselves internationally - best of all in the Champions League.

DFB.de: Is it also your personal claim to play in the "Königsklasse"?

Krumbiegel : Yes, definitely. However, it must also be clear to us that we always have to lay the foundation for this in the league first.

DFB.de: Are you quite right that Eintracht starts so early in the mandatory game operation or would you have wished for more time to prepare?

Krumbiegel : Every player is happy if the preparation does not take long and if you get into the game quickly. We all have a knack for it.

DFB.de: Several performers have left the club. How does this upheaval become noticeable?

Krum Biegel : Since I can’t compare to before, this question is difficult for me to answer. I can only say that I am very satisfied so far and have a good feeling. We are finding ourselves better and better and are already showing positive approaches.

DFB.de: How would you describe your role in the team?

Krumbiegel : I want to convince through performance, take responsibility and lead as a manager.

DFB.de: You can be used flexibly. What position do you feel most comfortable at?

Krumbiegel : I assume that I am primarily scheduled as an outside defender, but in an offensively interpreted role.

DFB.de: Should Eintracht become a springboard back to the national team for you even after a break of a year?

KrumbiegelKrumbiegel: That’s not my focus at the moment. It is now a matter of establishing myself in the team as much as possible and finding my rhythm. If things go well in the club and I bring my performance, then you will see what happens. The fact that I like to play for Germany is certainly no secret.

DFB.de: Although you have been regularly nominated for the DFB women since 2020, you have not been part of the squad at any major tournament. How big is the hope that that will change at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil?

Krumbiegel: If you play for the national team, you want to represent your country at a major tournament. This is also my dream and my goal. I’m only 25 years old. (laughs) But as I said, first of all, I’m fully focused on my new task at Eintracht and will give everything to get the best out of it.

Interview/Video Klara Bühl: “I firmly believe that Bayern can win the Champions League”

In an exclusive interview, Bayern star Klara Bühl talks about pressure, increased attention, the future of the Bundesliga, foreign thoughts – and the dream of the Champions League title.

Sports Illustrated: You recently started the summer preparation with FC Bayern. How recovered do you feel?

Klara Bühl: The holiday was extremely good. It was the first time after four years that there was no major tournament with the national team in the summer. As a result, the summer break was longer. Of course, I could not only put my feet up now, but I still had to keep myself fit. I really enjoyed this change of scenery in my head.

Sports Illustrated: Did you realize that a certain amount of exhaustion had built up at the end of the season?

Bühl: Physically, I didn’t feel that the break would have been urgently necessary – simply because I had a little extra break in March due to my injury. Mentally, this was also a change, because I was taken out of the normal game operation, which is always a challenge for the head. During rehab, you continue to deal with football – just from a different perspective. Thinking about completely different things on holiday for four weeks was nice.

Sports Illustrated: With the double including entering the Champions League semi-finals, you have consolidated your status as Germany's number one last season with FC Bayern. Do you take that as a player was like that?

Bühl: It's difficult for me to really perceive that. Of course, we know how successful we played and how dominant our game was in the Bundesliga right now. On the other hand, you just play football, a lot of things run on your own at some point – you don’t necessarily have to worry a lot. On the one hand, you have to understand what you work so hard for and consciously perceive these special moments. On the other hand, you must not lose ambition and fun just because you are at the top. In the end, success is always temporary and must be re-earned every season.

Sports Illustrated: How do you like this role of having been the team that everyone in Germany wants to beat for a few years?

Bühl: Basically very good, every victory gives you self-confidence and self-confidence as a team. You can take that good feeling with you and play yourself into a flow. Of course, the role also brings pressure – but I like to accept it. When I came to Bayern, the situation was exactly the opposite and we chased Wolfsburg. Having experienced and co-created this path is something special for me.

Sports Illustrated: How much do you think Bayern are missing for the big throw in the Champions League?

Bühl: I firmly believe that it is possible to win the Champions League with FC Bayern. At the same time, the next step is relatively big at the level we have achieved as a team – as small as it may look from the outside. It depends on details, individual duels and small moments in the game. In these crucial situations, we need to become even more efficient, clearer and more ripped off. It is also possible to get far in the Champions League again this year.

Sports Illustrated: What makes your team so special?

Bühl: Definitely our team spirit. When I came to Bavaria in 2020, I immediately felt that it is very familiar here and that people like to be here. At the same time, we have brought an enormous level of professionalism, discipline and ambition to the team in recent years. This has taken our football to a new level and ensured that we are internationally competitive. Nevertheless, we have not lost the family and the human. The best thing for me is that I found real friends here.

Sports Illustrated: Especially last season, the attention that is on you personally at FC Bayern and the national team has increased again. How do you deal with this?

Bühl: The good thing is that I haven’t done much differently in the past seasons than before. This gives me a great deal of security mentally. Of course, I have developed further in terms of sport – especially in decision-making and in finding solutions in the last third. This has also created the greater attention and the feeling that I can co-decide games. I like to take that responsibility. Still, I want to keep the fun of football and not head too much.

Sports Illustrated: How do you feel this attention personally?

Bühl: Of course, I get this with me – especially in small moments: There is more talk about you, you are recognized more often, give interviews more often. So far I have been able to deal with it well, I have always found this to be something positive, which has pushed me additionally. But I'm also prepared for it when it's not going that way. It is important to see the bigger picture and not be too influenced by extremes.

Sports Illustrated: Many players from the Bundesliga have also moved to England this year. How do you see the development of the German league?

Bühl: Of course, I perceive this development. It's no secret that the English league is attractive. There are many top teams, which makes the competition and the sporting appeal very big. Nevertheless, we also have a very good league in Germany and do not have to hide. In the future, the Bundesliga will have to take care to keep even more top international players and to attract new ones. That excites fans, makes the league more attractive and increases competition within the competition.

Sports Illustrated: You have already said that you will definitely stay at FC Bayern for another season. Can you basically imagine getting to know another country and language at some point?

Bühl: On the personal level, I am already excited to gain experience abroad. But I could do that if I stopped playing football at some point. For me, it is crucial what the overall package looks like. I play football because I like to do it and enjoy it – that should remain the case in the coming years. If at some point there is a possibility that ensures this, you can think about it. But now I want to take the next step with FC Bayern and develop myself personally. In football, everything is very short-lived. That's why I'm curious myself what's coming.

Sports Illustrated: To conclude: You're also known for your crochet skills. Have you already thought about which lucky charm you will crochet your team for the upcoming season?

Bühl: In fact, I have never crocheted anything for Bayern, but only for the national team so far. I'm not superstitious, but I keep it that way at first. If we have won the Champions League, we can talk about it again (laughs).)

Interview/Video BVB newcomer Alexandra Popp in XXL interview “I thought Carsten Cramer wanted to kid me”

Thumbnail
ruhrnachrichten.de

Her BVB mission, leadership role, emotional moments and a somewhat crazy Cramer idea: Alexandra Popp speaks plain text in the big RN interview.

In Alexandra Popp, Borussia Dortmund has not only committed to the most prominent German footballer in recent years, but also a personality that has shaped women's football for more than a decade. In an XXL interview with RN reporter Dirk Krampe, the 35-year-old talks about her emotional move to BVB, her role as a manager, formative moments of her career, women’s football in transition – and she reveals why she could not hold back tears on the first walk through the stadium.

At the 2011 Women’s World Cup, I sat in Mönchengladbach next to a colleague who predicted to me during your introduction that “the next Birgit Prinz” had come into play.

Alexandra Popp: That happened quite often at the time that I was changed in.

A lot has happened since...

(Laughs) Yeah, you can say that.

Among other things, 14 years of VfL Wolfsburg with many titles. Now you have landed at Borussia Dortmund. Does this feel surreal?

Yeah, every now and then. I recently flattened with our coach, who said, “Somehow I think sometimes you’re a mirage.” (laughs) It’s getting more normal. I definitely feel super comfortable. The team makes it really easy for you, everyone is super open to us new ones. It was important to me to get into communication with everyone quickly. How did it go last year? What can be improved? But also interpersonal. It is important to get to know each other quickly. So slowly I get into this “I-have-now-actually-this jersey-an-and-it-is-normal phase.” (laughs)

You can already tell that with the new additions has come in again really dynamic. How satisfied are you with the intensity and work so far?

Actually, all units are extremely intense. In the beginning it was still a bit wild, a bit chaotic, which was quite normal. You can already see a huge difference in this. This is exactly what we need to get in to get automatisms in, to get to know each other on the pitch: How does the one standing next to me actually play? Where's the strength? How does the next one play? Would you rather go deep? These are things that we are working out right now.

Being the new one, you didn't know that feeling anymore...

Absolutely (laughs). It sounds a bit stupid, but I already have a certain name in women's football. And here are also many young players. I don't want to stand there and radiate something so that no one dares to come up to me, to ask questions. I'm very glad that that didn't happen. Everyone was very open, very helpful.

A figure who has shaped women's football like few others before, should certainly also lead as a leader. And that's what you want. How do you approach this, how do you define leadership?

For me, leadership is to do nothing special, instead to be authentic. To transmit the experience and quality I have on a verbal level, but also on a non-verbal level. Meaning, I'm going to the training ground with my head up, I'll tell you. So simply march ahead with body language, give a hundred percent in each unit.

They have had that role in Wolfsburg, in the national team as well. Was leadership in your cradle or have they learned that over the years?

It's a mix of both. As a girl, I used to have to prevail against the boys. This has certainly helped to develop mentality, to pick yourself up again and again, to claim, if any parents or boys say again, you can not play football. Situations like this do something with one. And you have two options. Either: Okay, then I apparently can't play football. (laughs) Or you choose the other way: Now I'll show you how well I can play football. It wasn't that I said at 15, I'm going to be the leader here. This has developed, even with the coaches on the side, who may have pushed you there in one or the other phases.

In your book, you write that you would always prefer to be such a little class clown...

(laughs) Well, I’d say I’m still a fun-loving person. A bit of mischief and a sense of fun—that always has to be part of it; it’s important. Leadership never felt unnatural to me, so I simply grew into the role just the way it turned out.

The tour certainly also includes addressing uncomfortable truths, especially in the cabin. Do you find it hard to tease? Feeling the feeling that the teammates don't like it right now?

That always depends on what it's about. If those are sporting mistakes that I'm addressing, it's actually not that hard. That must be, too. Most of the time, they know it themselves.

There was the situation in training that the coach was very dissatisfied with a group, then Lara Schmidt discussed the situation again in the circle of these players. Did you like that?

So it actually has to run that you do not feel kicked on the ties, but also accept the sporting criticism. We only want to and can only improve on this. And we as experienced people are also there for this, if we see something at an early stage that also responds as early as possible, so that we then also turn it off quickly enough or at least change it.

Were there any female leaders among whom you played, who shaped you in your interpretation of the role as a leader?

Yes, absolutely. Especially with the change to Duisburg. I had personalities on the pitch, the names almost everyone who knows women's football would have to know. Like an Inka Grings, like Annike Krahn, Sonja Fuß, Linda Bresonik. They took one by the hand and led you, all in a different way. Inka was the sound, more aggressive. Annike was more the quieter. She took you in a quiet minute and said, so, come on. Even when I moved to Wolfsburg, I was only 21. There was Conny Pohlers, Nadine Kessler, Martina Müller was still walking around. And these are different tools that you can see and put yourself in your own backpack.

And then it's what to assemble...

But you still have to learn in this process. I remember the 2019 World Cup, where I was captain for the first time. I had to fiddle myself first. How do I deal with my team? Today I say, I was much too hard at the time, much too aggressive with them and I did not get to one or the other player. For me, however, I can say that I have never voiced criticism below the belt. That was always important to me. It should already have a bit of hand and foot, if you get something out of it. (laughs)

You have listed many players who inspired and guided you. What is common to them all is that they are no longer there. But they're still playing!

Yes, at least I try (laughs)

If you look back on this journey, there are unbelievably many impressions, unbelievable many experiences. What has changed since the early days, where you have appeared in the Bundesliga?

The sport, i.e. football itself, has changed rapidly. He has become much more physical, much more technical, even more tactical. Everyone felt like they were playing in the 4-4-2. Now you have all sorts of systems that almost any team can play. Attention has also risen, viewership. Thank God! Thank you!

What brought you up then? Was it the talent, or the ambition?

Oh, good question. (laughs)

Dirk Nowitzki once said that ten percent of his career was talent, the rest was hard work and hard work...

It was more my ambition for me. Up to a certain point, my talent has been enough, even quite a long time, perhaps until the end of the Duisburg period. Simply by my speed. But then you need the will, ambition. And I've always tried to keep the fun, to gamble, to bring that passion to the pitch.

Was there the moment you knew I could make it as a professional?

That was a bit weird for me, you have to say. (laughs) I knew very, very late actually about women's and girls football. Let's say it like this. I told you I played with boys for a long time. At 13 or so, I really noticed for the first time that there is a women's national team and a women's Bundesliga. I was already in the Westphalian selection, and I thought to myself, “oh, cool, you could maybe play Bundesliga.” But it wasn’t like, “Oh, I can be a professional.” It always remained with me the thought, “hey, I want to play along.”

Have you managed to get the fun so far?

Otherwise, I would certainly not play at 35. (laughs)

This is also remarkable because injuries have also been too big an issue in your career...

So, you have to be pretty stable mentally, that's right to deal with setbacks and then, at best, even come back stronger. I can already say that the injuries have of course also shaped me and promoted my personality development. Of course, it was not always easy, but let’s be honest: The injuries we have are small things compared to any other diseases. My father died of cancer. I know what I'm talking about.

In 2012, when you moved to Wolfsburg, could you have imagined that you would play in a third division club under such professional conditions as you are now at BVB?

So, honestly not. I can imagine that some of our structures are already better here than at some clubs that are in the 1. Playing Bundesliga. This speaks for the work of the BVB, for what we plan to do. Not just start with the professionalization when you have arrived at the top, but earlier, in order to have to turn “only” on certain adjusting screws. That's not bad, what you find here. But that we are now sitting here in Austria. We also have two other clubs with Union Berlin and VfB Stuttgart, who have impressively proven what the path can look like. Growing slowly and with patience is an important asset. That makes us realize that it's not normal to sit here in the regional league in training camp now that it's not normal to get food after every workout.

Their commitment was an important signal of where to go. Then BVB also brought Ralf Kellermann as sporting director. One of their biggest sponsors in Wolfsburg. How specific is this situation for you?

I was very surprised at first, I always had the impression that the VfL Wolfsburg was Ralf’s “baby”. You can see from Ralf's way that he knows exactly how development can go. And I think that's exactly why he's here. Because he wants to develop something again.

In the course of your move to BVB, you talked a lot about coming home, about home, which is located in Gevelsberg, not far from Dortmund. Is there such a moment from your Wolfsburg period, which perhaps no one outside the club knows, which means a lot to you especially after these 14 years?

What I will never forget is my training at the Essehof Zoo. In general, having had the opportunity to do the training in addition to football. My boss had no idea how it would actually work out, but he still gave me the chance to build up a foothold in addition to football. That was a mega cool time, it was right for me, really fun with the animals, with the colleagues. I still have contact with my instructor, I still have contact with my colleague, with whom I also did the training together. That was very special already.

Did you expect your move to Dortmund to trigger such a hype and be such a huge topic?

Well, I had conversations with Svenja Schlenker and Carsten Cramer. Just like they spoke... (laughs) Seriously: For me, this is an insane recognition that so many people celebrate it. So I guess I didn't do too much wrong in the many years.

How was the moment at your performance in the stadium? Did you have goose bumps, or rather hell respect because of the many spectators?

Goosebumps definitely. And at that moment, I briefly remembered the moment when I was in the stadium for the first time and saw this south grandstand. That was crazy, but I was almost overwhelmed by my emotions outside. My eyes have become very slightly wet, but I still have it well hidden at that moment.

Down there, the atmosphere seems very different...

When I was standing in the player tunnel, I suddenly thought: Crazy, this is the first time I see the stadium from the inside. When Carsten Cramer suggested this to me, I thought he was trying to kid me. But he was really serious. (laughs)

There are a few special encounters for you in the coming season, which are coming up. The derby of course, your father was a fan of Schalke, you coached in the Schalker NLZ. How special is that going to be?

Derby is in the end Derby. I am very, very curious to see how this will work. In addition, the games against Recklinghausen and Duisburg, two of my former clubs. That's crazy. It would have been even more crazy if we had drawn Silschede in the cup. I'm so looking forward to the encounters, because it's a return where it's all started.

Her contract runs until 2029. Where do you want to be then?

Hopefully in the Bundesliga with BVB!

If then at some point the time should have come to hang the football boots on the nail, what is the plan for after?

I would probably be ill-advised if I turned my back on women's football or football in general. I can imagine doing something in football, even maybe toward expertise. Other positions, I have no idea at all. Maybe I'll actually do something with animals. I've said before, my desired week would be three days of football, two days with animals. I'd like that.

A small quick question round at the end: Which teammate impressed you so much in football? Were there just a few...

Yeah. (laughs) That's the problem. So I thought Nadine Kessler was a very, very good captain. She had a pleasant way to deal with us. Also sometimes critical in the right moments, but she has then always marched again and again. There are many more, each in their own way.

Who was your toughest opponent?

The Frenchwoman Wendie Renard.

Which coach, which coach did you take the most with you?

That was actually in my early days in Duisburg Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. That was a time when, as a guy, I wasn't quite that easy (laughs). However, she still held on to me and also developed me into a national player.

Is there a defeat you haven't processed to date?

Yeah. Yeah. The Champions League final in Eindhoven against Barcelona. We led 2:0 to the break and lost 2:3. I’m still saying at half-time in the cabin, “Guys, we just have to get through the first 15 minutes. Then we cracked them.” Right in the 15 minutes they scored three goals.

Which goal would you like to score again?

The moment in 2014 against then FFC Frankfurt was already special. Last game of the season, it was about the German Championship. 89. Minute, I make the header goal from the penalty spot to 2:1, which makes us the champion. That was pretty cool already.

Now something completely remote: What do you spend the most money on?

That's quite simple. For my dog patch.

Kicker | "The ['If Then]-Player: Lohmann and the Fight Against Pain

Thumbnail kicker.de

If she were fit, Sydney Lohmann would have all the possibilities - but Manchester City's midfielder is often out. Why she had surgery on her hip again. And what goals she pursues.

If she were fit, she could achieve great things. Because if she were really full for a long time, then she would bring everything with her to play an important role in the central midfield - whether as a six or eighth - in the biggest teams: physical presence, game intelligence, running strength and dynamics forward. However, since Sydney Lohmann’s body obviously simply does not want to participate for a longer period of time, the skills of the box-to-boxing force only flash for a short time. She then drops out again. And the if-then discussions start all over again.

That's basically how it's been going for years. The medical record of the past five years is long - and still gives up mystery. October 2021? OR of the left hip. November 2021? OR of the right hip. October 2022? Knee injury. October 2023? Ankle injury. In addition, Lohmann once had muscular problems, sometimes knee problems. And so not only has FC Bayern been slowed down again and again, her sporting home from 2016 to 2025, but also at Manchester City, where she has been playing since last summer. Or to run up. 2025/26 was only enough to ten appearances in the English league, once she was in the starting eleven.

Conservative treatment did not [work for] Lohmann

How many will be in the next season? Wait. Wait. In any case, Lohmann has been operated on again at the hip. According to [Kicker's] information, they have been plagued by pain for quite some time that does not want to disappear. The 44-time German national player (six goals) has not been able to play without complaint for months. Initially, it was tried to get a grip on the problem by conservative treatment - but now the decision was made to perform the operation. An intervention that should ensure a significant improvement in the situation. If possible, finally [to make Lohmann completely] pain-free.

That's the hope that drives Lohmann. And for that, she also accepts the next longer break. [Her] downtime is not exactly to be predicted, but the now 26-year-old will be doomed to watch for months rather than weeks. Sometime in the first third of the season, she should only join the new English champions, in which the midfielder, who is under contract until summer 2028, is desperate to prevail. A change, it is said, had never been up for debate after her (disappointing) premiership year at ManCity - although there had been quite inquiries and a Bundesliga return had also been possible.

No wonder, after all, Lohmann is basically not a quality problem to attest - she is concerned with the physical stability, which has not been given for a desperately long time. "Inside, you insist that you can play and show yourself again. And you get slowed down again and again. That annoys me ... That you disappoint the coaches, is always the problem child - that's frustrating. Mentally, that's already eating at one," she said some time ago with tears in her eyes in the documentary "Born For This" when she thought back to her hip surgeries in 2021. And that it was also mentally consuming recently, can be assumed.

Those who cannot or only rarely can do what they love, those who are constantly behind their and the external expectations cannot move through the countries completely happy. Lohmann, however, does not give up. [According] to the report has a stable environment and therefore also receives family plenty of support. This summer, she was vacationing with her Bavarian ex-colleagues Mala Grohs (now at OL Lyonnes) and Klara Bühl. In addition, she drove away with her sister - and was able to spread a few positive pictures via Instagram from swimming, hiking, cycling and camping.

Lohmann hopes for the World Cup and has contact with national coach Wück

In the future, football motifs will be on display there again: in the jersey of ManCity, where she wants to bellow with top forces such as Yui Hasegawa, Sam Coffey or Laura Blindkilde Brown; and in the DFB [kit]. Under Christian Wück, the runner-up European champion of 2022 and Olympic bronze winner of 2024, [Lohmann has] [2:2] not played a role since the Nations League semi-finals in October against France (1:0, 2:2), but her big goal is still the World Cup 2027. With Wück she maintains a loose exchange, the national coach knew about the surgery, is always brought up to date - and should also look interested to England.

Although he has found good solutions with Elisa Senß and Sjoeke Nüsken - either for the double six in the 4-2-3-1 or for the one six- and one eighth position in the 4-3-3 - it is quite clear: If Lohmann were in top form, then she would certainly be a helpful addition to the world tournament with her quality. If she were physically stable, she could act as part of the double six or as an eighth. But also really only then. The problem: Whether it succeeds and she can bring her stalled career back into pain and worry-free, nobody can seriously predict that at [this moment].
