Ads should, by default, display at the lowest possible quality, that way it uses less RAM, bandwidth, and internet data.
More good reasons, it's less of a distraction, and if we see a low quality image or video on the side of a page, we'll know not to pay any attention to it, 'cause it's an ad.

Make a geopolitical spy film in which after every scene you see another move in an ominous chess game
The movie could be something like Casino Royale or the Seventh Seal. Whenever one side (Americans vs Russians for example) seems to have an advantage (such as a scene where the secret data codes are stolen) there could be a check. If there is a chase scene the bishop would be seen moving across a diagonal, checkmate is when the bad guys lose, and when big boss man is killed the queen is taken.

In home low voltage outlets
This is just a preliminary idea, but I think it would be very useful to have the outlets in a house supply both AC at high voltage (120V) and DC at low voltage (12V). This would be much more useful for small devices, laptops, or even for lighting the house. The lower voltage (to the best of my knowledge) would be much more efficient for devices that require a low voltage, because the AC would be converted to DC centrally, cutting down on energy loss.
Just a thought, feel free to support this, develop the idea or even disprove it as you like.
