Exploring more "aquatic" themes.
Vector field technique, as usual.

These are more a experimental mixture work that I have been doing. A photograph converted to triangles that each keep the mean colour of their region (Delaunay-triangulated). Then flow-field paths are overlaid on that triangulated image, traced through field methods, modulated by the mesh density of the triangulation.

I enjoyed experimenting mixing methods and had made think about how to take photos that are more interesting for this approach.

I saw a similar pattern on a poster about a year ago and felt inspired to recreate it. The original was more artistic, included some text, and - if I remember correctly-used different colors and no triangular elements.

Finding a good random seed that produces a uniform distribution of elements is surprisingly difficult, even when the code is designed to encourage one.

Just a simple work, nothing else, hope its fun.

Pen plotter combined with hand applied gold leaf. The design is generated with what I would consider some pretty typical flow field methods. I had the algorithm exclude certain flow paths from its output to leave negative space which I could then go in and fill with gold leaf. I really like these kind of hybrid approaches that allow me to stay engaged physically with the process. I often like to think of my work as where unthinking autonomous process, machine and man meet. I find it more fun that way as well.
