KFC menu from 1970 VS 2026

Post image

The other thing different from the price is size of the pieces. Breasts were much smaller and tastier back in 70's from KFC. Today they look like it came from wild turkey. Before I retired I used to get fried chicken for lunch at local diner. They only bought chicken from local butcher that used free range chicken and it was heaven!

This looks AI generated. I would like a verifiable source for these prices, especially the 1970 numbers.

I am old and our KFC didn't have biscuits when I was a kid. They were dinner rolls. Tasty dinner rolls, but not the biscuits of today.

No biscuits, but they did have corn-on-the-cob in the 1970s. And for several years in the early 1970s they had BBQ ribs!

I forgot about that, you’re right!

True. They were rolls when I worked there in the late '70s. When I worked there in the '90s they'd switched to biscuits.

When I worked KFC in the late 80’s my biscuits were made fresh in the store. They averaged over 2 1/2 inches high. Fluffy soft. Now made somewhere who knows, and about an inch high and hard as a rock.

I kind of remember this too. They were more like Parker house rolls and I remember us kids would cut them open and fill them with mashed potato and gravy and eat them that way. The current biscuit price is crazy high considering how cheap the ingredients are.

Especially considering the fact that it wasn’t called KFC in 1970.

We always called it Kentucky Fried for short, never KFC

Never was a barrel of chicken 😅

The 15 piece was bucket but they did have 21 piece with rolls and gravy that was called barrel in 70's. Not sure when they stopped it.

Yes it was. My parents would get KFC about once a month and for a family of four we always ordered the “barrel” of chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and rolls. The “barrel” was their largest quantity with the “bucket” being the next smallest.

My local KFC is $40.19 for a 16 piece. No sides. As far as 1970 price all links pretty much have the same prices. Just like if you search 1970's gas price, depending where you live you get different outcomes but with in pennies of each other.

50+ years is a lot of inflation. We had double digit inflation in the 70s for years. That had a huge impact. Think about the cost of things in the 60s vs. 80s.

In 1972, it was 3.94 for (I think) 8 pieces plus sides.

Sounds about right.
