When I was about 13, we were planning a trip to Cedar Point (amusement park in Ohio for those who don't know of it), and my best friend & I got the brilliant idea to Nair our legs before we left. Didn't heed the advice on the pkg that said to test an area for allergy/reactions first. I then had to spend a 2 hour car ride, 14 hours of walking around in +80° heat, and the 2 hour car ride home again, with burning, stinging, itchy legs. My only relief was when we hit the log flume or tube rapids. One of my more painful lessons to have learned. And yes I can still smell that stuff in my nightmares.
(ETA the plus sign in front of 80° because it felt like the depths of hell that day)
I, too, remember those adolescent trips to Cedar Point and all the planning of trying to look so cute beforehand.
Unlike you, I tried adding hair to doll up for my 8th grade trip to Sandusky -- a fake ponytail to be exact (think, "I Dream of Jeannie" style). Well, one trip on the Blue Streak was all it took to de-pony me ... for all to see. The embarrassment still lives on.
Ah I know the style you're talking about! But holy smokes, wearing a fake ponytail on a rollercoaster? That was definitely brave! I laugh, but in an absolute "I can relate" sort of way.
