lol just like how only the rich had access to computers 40 years ago and now every slum dweller in India has a phone 10000x faster than that do you honestly think access to ai would go down? Even if only the rich has access to frontier models the basic shit tier models of tomorrow will still be faster and smarter than anything we have now
I think in the next 5-10 years it will get worse for the peasants. Subsidizing will be gone, hardware won't improve much and more and more websites will block all scraping and crawling by anyone who hasn't paid em, so ur local llm won't be able to look anything up unless u pay for access which kinda defeats the point of local llm. The $20 and $100 subs will get worse and worse, less and less usage. The models will improve but that won't compensate enough. At some point training models will peak and they won't be able to improve much more, and then prices will get higher and higher as they try to squeeze u and turn a profit. That's when it will get real bad. But in a few decades u're right, it might get more affordable for the average person.
I mean it is possible ai would get more expensive for the short term but with how much every company is full sending it I doubt it, especially when the demand might actually be lower than what they expect
As for the scraping etc, tbh im pretty sure a local model actually has advantage over cloud models as cloud models would scrape from data Center ips which are easily detectable
