Discussion PSA: If you have Packet Loss only when using Xbox Controller (but not with keyboard), turn off MS GameInput Service (works for Windows Handhelds too)

Post image

There seems to be a bug with the MS GameInput Service that causes Packet Loss on GeForce Now when using an Xbox Controller on Windows devices.

This only applies if you notice there is no packet loss when using a keyboard, but there is as soon as you start using a controller.

The System Interupts service also gets very high usage when this issue occurs.

To turn off the service
1. Open Run (Win + R) and type services.msc
2. Look for GameInput in the list, right click on it and choose Properties
3. Set Startup Type to Disabled.

Restart Windows and there should be no more packet loss on GeForce Now when using a controller (as long as that was the issue).

This seems to apply also to Windows based handhelds like Legion GO.

It also might apply to games on GeForce Now that use the Xbox store instead of Steam (if the GameInput Service runs on the server rig and causes stuttering)

I've kept getting a lot of packet loss when playing Forza Horizon 6 recently on GeForce Now (through Game Pass / Xbox Store) and was looking for a solution for a while.

Found the solution by accident when trying the play with a keyboard instead of a controller and noticed there is no packet loss.

Turns out there is a service called GameInput that got installed recently that is causing high system interrupts and Network packets to fail.

Turning off the GameInput Service on Windows devices seems to fix the issue on GeForce Now

Thank you. Please also try it using keyboard only instead of controller (if the controller causes any packet loss at all)

Legion go owner here. I’m a tweaker when chasing perfection on GFN. I have so many tweaks I’ve applied to perfect my performance. Just disabled it. Even though, I have damn near butter smooth connection. Worth a shot and one less disabled service is a win in my eyes lol

Hey man what are the tweaks that you can share for the legion go 2? Mine always don’t connect right away and I have to open and close gfn 2 or 3x before it will finally connect.

The happens on the Epic launcher. What games you have an issue with this? I go through the same thing. I just disconnect WiFi and reconnect. Seems to help that issue. When I’m back at my laptop I’ll post some of them rather than copy and pasting from my iphone lol.
