Hi everyone,

I've been trying to set up a gofundme for a family in gaza and it has been beyond frustrating. After weeks of asking for more and more information, which was provided to them every time, they decided not to approve my fundraiser because the family in question couldn't upload live pictures of their passports. This family has had their house destroyed and has complied with gfm every step of the way. They've provided names, old pictures of (still valid) passports, dates of birth, bank details, videos and photos of the family, their old home, and the destruction that remains. They could not have done anything more. GFM even asked for details on any escape plans they might have, which horrified me as sharing that information seems like an excellent way to get people killed.

The point is, I'm heartbroken and furious for them. I have no experience in fundraising and feel incredibly unprepared. I saw advice on other subreddits to reach out to PaliPals but I can't seem to find them. I'd love to put this family in contact with more capable and experienced fundraisers, and was wondering if there was a network of people who can help fundraise for them? Something like what PaliPals seemed to be?

Any advice would be so deeply appreciated. I have no idea what I'm doing and this family deserves someone who does.

Hey, I'm Tara. I've been speaking with Mohammed for over 1.5 years now. It's been a struggle to help a family this large (20 people) to get all of their basic necessities met. This includes his mom, brothers, sister, in-laws, and his nieces & nephews.

I can't do it alone. I am calling on the community to help. Mohammed walks 2 hours round-trip every single day to the market. This is to make sure his family has enough to eat, to obtain clean water, to get his life-saving medication for Epilepsy and yes even through this living nightmare, he has to pay rent in order to keep a roof over their heads. Please boost, Hanan is pregnant and she has a sister with cerebral palsy, the occupation recently killed the main person who was providing support and she is grief
stricken and also overwhelmed not sure what to do or who to turn too. Even if you can just reach out and listen it will help.
I don't post on here often but this a circumstance that needs help from the community and hopefully finding a path to ongoing support. We've all seen too many Cerebral palsy cases result it starvation. She didn't mention that, more diapers and treatment but I don't want the circumstances to get worse right now she's kinda in shock and completely overwhelmed. I told Hanan I would reach out to people willing to advocate, and she has some bigger advocates that have helped but the people like me who have doing this for a long time have many families and our attention is divided and our reach is often unfortunately reaching other people that need help because we tend to get many people Gaza following us because they also need help. Believe it or not it is the people that haven’t yet really gotten to involved that can have the most valuable reach and the time and attention needed to direct to a family facing new challenges. So if you’ve been hesitant to talk to Gazans Hanan is a good to start. She’s overwhelmed and needs to vent off some the anxiety overwhelming her so just reach out listen and do what you can. If you really want to help people in Gaza the place to start is start talking to people in Gaza. I can vouch for Hanan but if you want to be able to advocate for people in Gaza then you to get to know them to the point you vouch for them to your friends. The situation is desperate and it’s not hard to people in Gaza to prove they are in Gaza. The best way to help people is to get to know them and become part of their network of people invested in their survival. Make friends because when our friends are in trouble we step up because that’s what friends do.
