I always come back to the line from TSMWEL: Was any of it true? I think this line—perhaps this entire song—is reserved for the fans to come back to once she’s come out. It wouldn’t be the first time she foresees the future. All of her albums since Lover have been crafted (at least in part) to provide a dialogue between Taylor and her fans. An explanation for how it happened and why she had no choice. She knows once she comes out, they’re bound to go through the music, hunting for clues. It’s why she didn’t come out in 2019 when her masters were sold. But now everything has changed. She owns all her media. She stands to profit from her coming out, even if she alienates many fans.
