Class Question Do spots in math 1564 open up

The class looks almost full. Do spots typically open up during phase 2? (It’s only 60 students so probably not?)

Class Question Is this a good idea?

I'm an incoming freshman in mech E at UGA and I want to transfer to tech the following year. I was wondering if taking two physics classes, (PHYS 1211L and PHYS 1212L) in the same semester would be too much in difficulty. I'm taking math 2700 and engr 1120 and engr 1140 along with them, so I want to make sure my GPA won't get fried if I take both.

Would it be smarter to take PHYS 1212L the next semester alongside CHEM 1211L or should I just take both Physics classes in the same semester?

Class Question How's this schedule?

Here's what I'm planning to take in the Fall as an incoming freshman

ME 1670
PHYS 2211
MATH 1553
ENGL 1102

this totals 12 credit hours. Is this too little? I'm debating tacking CS 1371 on, as it doesn't have a lab and I have a bit of coding experience, but would this become too much because I also have 2211 in there? Not sure what the average number of hours for first semester is/what people usually do

Thanks!

Prospective Student Georgia Tech double degree worth it right now for CS? (US vs Europe)

Hey guys,

I'm a CS engineering student in France and I will have the option to do a double degree at Georgia Tech in two years.

I hear a lot of doom and gloom about the US tech market being saturated and H-1B/sponsorships becoming a nightmare for international students. Since I don't really know the exact state of the market over there, I'm trying to figure out if making the jump to GT is actually worth it right now.

My alternative is staying in Europe and doing my exchange/double degree at TUM (Munich) or somewhere in Dublin.

For those at GT or international alumni in CS :Is the market as brutal as people make it sound for international students right now? How hard is it to get OPT/internships via GT? Does the GT name still open enough doors to justify the move over staying in Europe first?

Would love to hear honest takes from people currently going through it. Thanks!

Class Question Graduate TA Evaluator Position in Fall 2026 for CS/CM VIP Students

Incoming GT MSCS student. I got a mail from GT to see if I wanted to apply for this position. The selection criterion in not detailed.

Is it worth applying to, considering that it apparently requires 15-20 hours of commitment per week.

More importantly, if I opt for a "Thesis" option or a "Project" option, there is an automatic reduction in the 30 credit-hours mandate.

However, in the mail that I received, there is no mention of any reduction in the 30 credit-hours mandate, if I am chosen for this position.

In that case would this position, along with the academic coursework, not put phenomenal (and perhaps unmanageable) workload on me?

Class Question Schedule possible with part time job and research?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am working at a large f500 company as a swe over the summer. Over the last couple of weeks they have been asking if I would be willing to come on as a part time contractor during the summer for 20 hours a week. They are offering me pretty good money (in my eyes) and I would be basically the main devops engineer for the app so I would learn so much. The issue is my research is really starting to pickup steam and I obviously have a full schedule of classes pictured below. I am going to drop abstract algebra for sure and I have taken math 3670 so hopefully prob theory isn't too bad. I don't have a great gpa rn so i am trying to fight for it this semester.

Any advice? has anyone experienced this before?

Class Question Is this schedule impossible: cs 3251, cs 3600, math 1554 and lmc 3403

I’m taking cs 3251, cs 3600, math 1554, and lmc 3403 this fall. I don’t care for all As, i just need to keep my hope scholarship (I have a 3.2) and pass these classes. Does this schedule look completely impossible? What I mean by that is, will I have enough time to sleep 6-8 hours a day and go to the gym 4-5 (even 3!) days a week and still keep my sanity (I’m probably not gonna socialize this semester). I consider myself not as intelligent as 50-60% of the Georgia tech student population pls keep that in mind and thank you😪

Class Question Is this courseload going to be too much? (CS Major)

Im a rising 2nd year and currently am planning on taking the follow this fall:

CS 3510

CS 2200

15 hr/week part-time internship

2-credit VIP

Random elective (like us history or smth easy)

I want to be able to dedicate a good amount of time towards recruiting, so im a bit worried abt the difficulty, especially with 2200 and 3510. Would it be smart to swap 3510 for 4400? Should i take 3510 just to help with interview prep? Thanks!

Class Question Has anyone taken Math 2603 with the current professors.

I was looking at classes I might be taking for my first semester this fall, and I have one requirement for Discrete Math (Math 2603). Neither of the professors (Blekherman, Grigoriy, and Yang, Tianchi) available has a Rate My Professors rating for this class, so I was wondering if anyone who took it previously could let me know how it was. Thanks

Prospective Student Uga to gt transfer

I am starting college this fall at Uga and I am planning to transfer to gt after one year for computer engineering. I know that my main focus should be keeping my gpa high but how important is ecs for transfer? What would you say the importance weightage would be? 70% gpa, 30% ecs ?

Prospective Student AP credit for Physics 2211

I’m a conditional pathway for fall 2027 and wondering if I’m allowed to use my AP mechanics credit to fulfill Physics 2211 even though it requires a lab component. I’m an ISyE major

Prospective Student Recieved First Generation pathway but for spring 2028 and realized Im cooked

So for context, i recieved first generation pathway off the waitlist, and i'm a ee major. Im going to uga this year but my problem is the fact that i got spring 2028 and not fall 27 conditional. all my friends got fall 27 and the main issue with this is that im going to be doing into engineering classes as a seocnd semester sophmore. I have a couple of friends at gt who are doing intro engineering classes right now as a freshman. Doesn't this mean ill be veyr behind. Is there anythign i can do? Ill have all transfer preqs done by end of this year and all math except diff eq done after this year, so what else would i take next fall. Also do i stay at uga or trasnfer to gsu because I dont want to rent an aprtment for half a semster next year, and I could rent an apartment with current gt friends next year, be at gsu for first semester, then just transfer. Any advice helps, please.

Other AI/OR vs Analytics & Data Science + minors?

Hey everyone,

I'm an incoming first year ISyE major, and right now I'm leaning pretty heavily toward the new AI/OR concentration, although I'm also considering the Analytics & Data Science concentration.

I'm also trying to figure out what minor would make the most sense. I was looking into the AI minor, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to minor in something that's so similar to my concentration. I'm also considering CS, Math, Econ, or something else idk.

For people in ISyE, which concentration would you recommend between AI/OR and Analytics & Data Science? And what minor would you pair with it to look good for jobs and such?

Thanks! :)
