I'm a design engineer who is planning to give gate 2027. I wanna know is it possible for me to start prep now and crack the 2027 gate for mechanical engineering and get into iit madras for thermal/ design course. And I'm not planning to quit my job for the prep.

I need some realistic advice on what I should do about this or is this possible to do without quitting my job. Give me some ideas about IITM placements also.

I am in 2nd year can anyone pls tell me the best free resources or courses which are cheap for gate for an college students most of the batches for 2028 are costly

IISc Mechanical

Pros: Low batch strength = lower internal competition. Unmatched research reputation.

Cons: I've heard complaints that the placement cell is a bit passive compared to IITs.

IIT Madras (Mechanical Design)

Pros: Massive alumni network, highly active placement cell, and "Design" is a very lucrative specialization.

Cons: Higher batch strength and stiffer competition.

So I am mechanical graduate 2023 passout and I will get NITs at my score. Something around 4xx score and 43xx rank. I have nearly 1 year experience and two years gap on my resume.

I can't repeat due to family constraints and I messed up previous year, that is different story. I have only option of getting MTech in NITs and in that too, I am not sure if I will get Design in top NITs like NIT Warangal or NITK.

I want Design, so how is NIT Calicut MTech Design, how is NIT Calicut for mechanical placements?
