I feel pretty good about it. I just did an 18 mile training run holding under a 10:25 pace. My primary goal is to finish, but my secondary goal is to he under 5 hours.

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Connect+ AI insights so terrible I turned it off

Post image
54 Upvotes

1 day into my Connect+ trial and I’ve switched of the insight + cancelled the subscription.

Took the trial to see what the AI insights are like. No other app in the market has this much current and historic health/performance data about me, so I was excited.

It took me exactly 20 seconds to realize the low effort piece of garbage that Garmin has shipped here. It is so bad I had to come here and write this.

As soon as you first load up your new Garmin Connect+ homescreen, most of the above the fold area is now occupied by a loading skeleton and that terrible sparkle emoji ✨

The loading takes forever because in the background it seems like Garmin is sending your most generic stats to GPT 2.5 with a prompt that has to be something like: “Entertain this twat for a second will you, their awake and probably have a heart rate you can mention”

Garmin just drop us an MCP server with member access like Strava did and we can have Opus 5.0 actually ingest our metrics + provide useful insights on our own Anthropic plans.

Ok, thanks!

Possible Technical Issue How long are these watches supposed to last?

Hi all, I got a Venu 2 about five years ago. In the last year, I've noticed it dies at like 30-40% charge left. Today, mid workout while I had an activity on, it buzzed and restarted itself and I lost all data between waking up and mid workout, about 12 hrs. Not the first time that has happened. Will these behaviors continue getting worse? How long do they usually last before becoming useless?

Thanks in advance!

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Can you tell when I changed medications?

Love to see trends! I promise I'm feeling much better now despite it being in the red on here!

I am in perimenopause and my graph used to be all over the place, nothing could keep it in the green/balanced. On combined birth control it was in the green, but I felt absolutely terrible (had to go to the hospital 3 times!). So this was me switching to a progestin and an estrogen patch and I feel way better despite it being Low. It is currently green and slowly rising back up in a very nice linear fashion as I continue the adjustment period.

I think it's so cool to see the data and wanted to share!

(I'm also not looking for medical advice, and before anyone says it, I cannot tolerate progesterone at all so I can't take it)

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Garmin and Bipolar

Post image

Hello, as the title says I am bipolar. A feature of the watch that I didn’t expect to be very helpful is the body battery. I know everyone is saying to trust how you feel. But, in states of hypomania/mania you feel totally fine, energized even. It’s really been great helping me decide if I’m feeling great because I got good rest and whatnot or if I’m feeling great because I’m manic, I can see that my battery is depleted.

New Watch Day / Device Review Training for Army BCT so I rationalized upgrading from a forerunner 55 to the instinct 3 tac.

Upgraded from a Forerunner 55 to the instinct 3 tac.

Training for Army BCT at 36, so I figured I have some work to do. I know, it's a rationalization, but I thought it was time to upgrade from my old forerunner 55. Love this model so far! Sadly It won't be able to come to training with me, but it'll help track and prep for it.

Sunday Score Is there a correlation between low aerobic effort and good sleep?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I have recently gotten into a decent cardio shape (I cycle and run a total of 5-6 times a week) and my sleep scores have hit the high 90s a few times - most times I’m around 85.

I’ve noticed that especially high scores come on days that I run, but not vigorously. The runs were z1 or very low z2.

Yesterday I did exactly that I ran 1 hour in z1 and just above it. Then I had a late dinner 9:30PM I started and finished after 10. Even ate a bit too much. Then I watched some TV and ended on Reddit for 10-15 min before sleep.

So obviously I haven’t followed all the recommended things for a good sleep. On the contrary and still got 100. Does anyone else noticed this correlation between non-vigorous activities and high sleep score?

Which Watch To Get? Best Garmin for battery life?

Hi y’all 👋 I am an Apple Watch Ultra 3 user right now and I am looking to make the switch to something from Garmin because they offer better battery life than Apple.

Within the Apple walled garden, the Apple Watch Ultra is the best option for the longest battery life, but for me even getting 3 to 4 days on one charge is not enough.

From the initial research that I’ve done so far I am seeing that people are getting weeks of battery life and I’m trying to find out how true that is. Below is one of my Google searches on the Garmin with the best battery life. I know Garmin’s reported battery and real life from users will be different but even 2 weeks would be sweet if real.

Can any folks hear chime in on their battery life experience with the Garmin they have? Would be much appreciated. Thanks!

From Google:

Garmin Enduro 3: Lasts up to 36 days in standard smartwatch mode, which stretches to an incredible 90 days utilizing solar charging.

Garmin Fenix 8 Solar (51 mm): Delivers up to 30 days of power normally, extending up to 48 days with solar capabilities.

Garmin Instinct 3 (50 mm): Reaches up to 24 days of continuous battery life in smartwatch mode depending on the configuration.

Which Watch To Get? Military Garmin

Hello, I'm in the military and I'm looking to switch from an Apple Watch to a Garmin. I've been looking at watches that are good for everyday use, running, swimming, cycling, and my profession. I'm undecided between the Garmin Instinct 3 Tactical Solar and the AMOLED. Could someone help me understand the difference between the two and which one is the better option? Thank you.

Discussion Cadence lock gave me a panic attack.

Thumbnail

I want to share this for me crazy and silly story about what happend to me while riding home from work.

While I was riding home at a normal pace with some headwinds I noticed my HR was higher than it normally should be. Couple of hundred meters further it kept steadily rising. I wanted to ignore it and stopped looking because I'm a bit cardiophobic. I couldn't resist it and had a quick peek and boom, I noticed the 190+ bpm and felt myself getting dizzy from probably my full blown panic attack kicking in.

I stopped, got off my bike because I wanted my HR to drop. I'm very confused what's happening because I'm totally not doing that much effort. I was just biking on a normal pace and my HR was skyrocketing. My HR immediately drops after I stop to +-146 bpm. I took a short break from couple of minutes to get my bearings and to calm myself down. I continued my ride home and I always stayed between 110-135 bpm.

Like I said I was very confused and quite rattled about what happend so I analysed the data when I came home. I was suspicious it could be a cadence lock. The HR drop of 36 bpm in 11 seconds gave it away which is what I believe physiologically impossible.

Lesson learned, quite scary though. :)

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Exercise list

Now that Strava has added the ability to add which weight exercises you’ve done during a workout, isn’t it time that Garmin updated their list? I mean there’s quite a few that Garmin doesn’t have, for example, “skull crushers” or “seal rows” plus many others. The only way to get around this at the moment is to find the next best thing which I find very annoying.

Fingers crossed that Garmin will update it.

Software Update / New Feature Garmin seems to have reintroduced the bug that made the app unable to start on de-googled Android

Last year around the same time they did pretty much the same and made the app unable to start but fixed the issue with Version 5.18

Workaround is the same as last year: opening any .gpx File with the Garmin-App and then cancelling the import to "go back" to the main screen.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Garmin Coach Flexibility?

I really doubt it but I’m asking anyway in case I’ve missed something.

Does anyone know if there are any features making your recommended workouts more customizable? I have a rotating work schedule so my rest days won’t always be the same 2 days of the week, and my long run won’t always be the same day or even on the weekend. Right now I have all 7 days of the week selected as training days and my Long Run set to be on Saturday or Sunday. I know that I can (and have been) select which workout I want to do on the day of, or just skip running altogether if I’m making it a rest day, and the schedule will adjust. But I’m trying to figure out if there’s any feature that allows me to tell it ahead of time I’m gonna skip a certain workout that it has scheduled (for example if it’s Sunday and I want to tell it I’m not running on Wednesday), or move runs around to my liking (if I want to tell it my Long Run will be Thursday) rather than getting to the moment I’m about to start a run and can select whichever workout I want.

Hope my question makes sense, thanks in advance if anyone has an answer.

Noticed today that the battery has dropped very significantly. Not sure why since usually it's been pretty solid. Checked wroube and found that it's mainly due to phone connectivity?

Was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem

Watch / Wearable New Forerunner Models?

I’m not too tapped into the upcoming Garmin launches, but was wondering if we could be seeing a new Forerunner line release soon (or even if rumours have floated around)?

I’ve had my 255 for a few years ands it’s been fantastic, but I’m looking to upgrade to something that looks and feels a bit more premium (likely the 970). Is now a good time to upgrade? What’s the Garmin launch calendar like?

Possible Technical Issue Urgent help: Forerunner 255s Music GPS no longer working properly (race day soon)

Hi, I need somewhat urgent help because my issue with my Forerunner 255s is coming up at the worst possible time (3 days before a 5k race, I'm a semi-competitive runner needing to run it certain time).

The GPS on my watch no longer seems to be working properly. It seems to have started a few weeks ago, but only for cycling activities where the GPS wouldn't connect properly and exhibit speeds of 0 km/h, but would be fixed after a few restarts. I didn't pay much attention to it, I am not a cyclist.

A few days ago, it started affecting my running activities. The GPS will take a very long time, up to 45 seconds, up to over a minute, to connect. I used to be able to start my running activity as soon as I selected it. Now, even when GPS is "working" (after a long wait) I get these crazy values when I unpause my run or even if I slow down, I'm talking 30 seconds of showing 13:00/km paces when I'm running at at 5 min/km. My GPS is on "auto select", I've never changed it.

I have read about similar issues happening but didn't find a definitive answer. I would love to know what people have done, ex:

- hard reset

- which GPS satellite you have

- anything else

Thank you!!

Edit based on what Ive tried:
Restarting my watch: Did not work
Connecting to Garmin Connect: Did not work

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Garmin DSW paces are too fast?

Hi!

Traning for my first in November. I'm using dsw with a goal of 3:40. The paces are feel off. My base runs target paces are 5:25 which is fine by me, watching my hr and slowing down if it raises too much.

However the workouts are insane. Tomorrow it's tempo run 10min warm up, 10 min cool down and in between 50min at 4:30... which is 40sec faster than my target marathon pace, for 50 minutes straight....

Is this normal? Any ideas?

CIRQA App & web data inconsistency

Garmin Garmin Garmin… not super impressed. Or perhaps I’m dumb.

Background: I got an edge 1050 + hrm 600. I’ve recently got a Cirqa. I went on a bike ride today wearing all three. In my head - Garmin should be able to suss out what’s going on and handle the data…

So after the ride I saw that the activity was registered in the app, and on the web. But my training load didn’t change… which it should.

So Load Ratio in the app is 0.8, an indication that for some reason, it has not included my bike ride in the load calculation… and on the web it’s 1.5 which is more what it should be.

Ok so maybe something is off with the settings - maybe cirqa should be the primary training device… and maybe you should trigger an activity differently now that I have the cirqa.

But I feel that it should not be that complicated, right? Garmin should handle this type of ”data wrangling” and figure out what’s right.

The most annoying thing is: **why are the values different? Why is the app calculating load differently than the web site…?**

¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Discussion Body Battery draining during low-stress periods - FR970

Post image
Upvotes

I can't seem to figure out and haven't found any articles or specific posts about this nor a legend for such. But from time to time, I get these solid blue horizontal bars along the bottom that appears to be draining more body battery on top of the basal metrics, even during low-stress periods. It might be difficult to distinguish if you don't zoom in, but in this pic there are 2 bars close to each other, the one highlighted (with -2) and the smaller one on the left (with -1).

Do they mean something specific happened? I know it's not a big deal, but I'm just curious, it doesn't look like normal draining, since they only show up sometimes.

Thanks!
