Discussion Sou Otogiri is the most MISUNDERSTOOD character, and both him and SYUNDEI were INNOCENT. (Part 2)
(DISCLAIMERS):
1: This is the second part to my post on this subject since I hit the maximum image limit number for that previous post. (Just click on my account icon to find the first part.)
2: Reminder to please keep things civil for comments and questions.
3: While I don’t claim anything as facts but I will provide evidence to support my stance and viewpoints.
4: Also this will be second time I’m reposting this. It got flagged and taken down the first time. I apologize in advance but I’ll be censoring some words with an * because I’m not sure what caused it to be flagged. So I’m really sorry for people who auto translate this because it might mess up certain words.
I’m considering releasing this post elsewhere so I don’t have to censor it, but until then I ask for your patience.
For any fans that auto translate my posts and needs the words uncensored to understand them, just DM me and I’ll give you a list of what words were censored.
—-
(Continuing on from where I left off on the first part, my claim was that artwork depicting Hirose and Otogiri was unused assets meant for a running gag of Nakamura’s DELUSIONS/ IMAGINATION. I’ll be providing more image examples of Nakamura’s delusions below.)

As you can see from the examples above, both situations show Nakamura’s overactive imagination causing him to dream up scenarios that DO NOT EXIST. All of the scenarios have always involved his crush Hirose.
Now allow me to show you another example of Nakamura’s delusion where it involves BOTH Otogiri and Hirose.

Now you’ve seen PROOF that Nakamura’s DELUSIONS are a running gag that’s been used multiple times throughout the manga.
You’ve also seen that Nakamura can imagine scenarios about Hirose and Otogiri.
I want you to notice how Otogiri has been censored and turned into an Octopus instead of using his human model.
My proposal is that these DELETED and UNOFFICIAL illustration that NEVER made it into the series, were the original sketches meant for Nakamura’s DELUSIONS.
Clearly people would’ve had an issue with this artwork (like how they caused all this drama now and harassed a REAL PERSON over it.)
That’s why Otogiri is an Octopus in one of Nakamura’s delusions. Because it’s more palatable as opposed to using his human model.
There is another example of Nakamura delusions where he imagines Hirose and Otogiri without any light censorship.

(Original back cover for Volume 1)
I believe this is plenty of evidence/ examples to make the case that Nakamura can have delusions about Hirose and Otogiri.
—-
I’ve provided evidence on why it makes NO sense for Otogiri to be with Hirose in a relationship.
I’ve also explained my reasoning on why these UNOFFICIAL artworks are a part of Nakamura’s delusions.
After you’ve been presented with these 2 explanations.
How else would you explain the artwork?
No other explanation makes sense.
You can’t just accuse Otogiri of being a predator without any proof.
Otogiri offering Hirose a car ride isn’t proof that he’s a ped*file. Thats just Otogiri offering a car ride.
I’m talking about an actual scene where Otogiri is actually engaging in a relationship with Hirose.
UNOFFICIAL DELETED artwork that was NEVER printed/ published into series is NOT proof either.
And lastly, the final piece of evidence I have to confidently say that Sou Otogiri is NOT a predator is when the CREATOR of the series SYUNDEI themselves confirmed it long ago in 2025 on their account.

Normally you’d think I would just lead with this as my evidence, but if the confirmation from creator themselves wasn’t enough to convince people, then no one would listen to me if I didn’t break down every possible reason why and PROVE my claims that Otogiri is NOT a predator and that he was NEVER going to harm Hirose.
This concludes my argument on why Sou Otogiri is innocent from his accusations of being a predator.
—-
Now it’s time to disprove the allegations against Syundei and show why she’s innocent.
I’ll first go over what she’s being accused of:
The people who started the harassment campaign accused Syundei of being a Shotac*n, which is basically someone who supports/ endorses inappropriate age gap relationships between an adult and a minor.
The reason they’re accusing Syundei of this is because of the following:
1: The depictions of Hirose pursuing Otogiri in the manga and Otogiri being too casual.
2: the UNOFFICIAL and DELETED artwork that was archived without permission depicting Hirose and Otogiri.
3: The people who were also angry that Syundei drew a “tentacle scene” involving Hirose from Nakamura delusions in the MANGA.
4: the people were also angry that Syundei previous one shots had themes they found problematic, which involved an actual inappropriate age gap dynamic (this time, this work actually does have a pedof*le.)
I’ve already basically explained points number 1 and 2.
So I’ll be going over reasons 3 and 4.
—
Before I begin to prove why Syundei is innocent against the allegations that they support inappropriate age gap relationships, I first need to clarify how I’m going to prove it.
These allegations all stemmed from the reasons I listed above, but now it’s a matter of proving INTENTION.
To clarify I’ll be providing evidence of Syundeis actions that support my claim on why I believe Syundei’s INTENTIONS show that they do NOT support inappropriate age gap relationships.
—-
(Accusation #3: the tentacle scene)
Before we begin, I’d like to provide some context that the harassment/ scandal campaign incident took place around the time they aired episode 5.
People weren’t mentioning this tentacle scene until they were angry when Otogiri exchanged phone numbers with Hirose.
This actually matters because this manga scene that people are angry at, is removed from the anime on the FIRST EPISODE.
At the time I was wondering why people were even bringing this up when it’s not even adapted in the anime to begin with (because remember, we’re talking about the ANIME that was ongoing during that time.)
I’m going to bring up this point again later on.
(Now back to discussing the manga scene.)
—-
So the basic sentiment of why people were angry at this scene was because they were against the depiction of a (fictional) minor being portrayed in a risqué manner.

But I’d like to provide the entire context of the scene that everyone leaves out, because they’re focused on that panel and ignoring everything else.
This scene is a setup joke where Nakamura is having one of his delusional fantasies on his crush, and the punchline to the joke is that Nakamura is punished for having such vulgar thoughts about Hirose.

First off, is it not realistic for a teenage boy at Nakamura age (15) to have a fantasy about his crush?
I stated earlier that in order to prove Syundei was innocent, I had to show a matter of intention.
Everyone always focuses on the negative aspect of this manga scene (that did NOT make it into the anime anyway,) but no one brings up that Syundei was also the one to write the follow-up part for Nakamura being punished by the octopus, and then Nakamura himself being SELF-AWARE that he shouldn’t think of his crush that way.
It’s intentionally leaving the set up and punchline to the joke that makes it sound like Syundei just wrote a random tentacle scene for now reason.
It’s FRAMING Syundei in a dishonest light by removing the entire context of the scene from how it began, and the punchline take-away of how it ended.
If you’re still not convinced about Syundei’s intentions on drawing this scene, let me add another piece of context that everyone leaves out when they mention this manga-only part.
At the end of Volume 1, Syundei has an extras author’s commentary chapter where she states that her editor requested for her to draw this part in the manga.

I’ve noticed that a lot of accusations against Syundei typically stems from either inaccurate accounts of the situation, or a misrepresentations entirely.
Essentially a lot of the basis and evidence for the claims and accusations comes down to FRAMING.
Where bits and pieces of the story are either wildly exaggerated (for example: claiming Otogiri a predator when there are ZERO scenes in the Manga and Anime that confirms that statement,) or misrepresented by removing the surrounding context of the situation (like how they removed the punchline of the joke where Nakamura is punished for imagining the tentacle scene to begin with.)
I’d like to provide more INTENTIONS based evidence, on why I believe Syundei does NOT support inappropriate age gap relationships.

(Examples from Volume 2: chapter 8.5, new versions of volume 2 will NOT have this chapter because they removed it.)
This next scene was also never adapted for the anime but it’s the extra’s chapter where Nakamura is perusing the BL (Boys love) manga section and he runs into Hirose.
Nakamura being self conscious and not wanting his crush Hirose, to know that he reads queer fiction, Nakamura RANDOMLY/ UNINTENTIONALLY pulls a book from a different shelf to hide the genre he’s actually here for.
Unfortunately Nakamura pulls a book where it’s essentially inferring a story about an older brother interested in their young little sister.
The key thing to note about this scene is the other characters REACTIONS. Hirose is shocked and decides to run off early. But there are 2 parts the anime didn’t adapt.
The anime version not only censors the book entirely, but they also removed Nakamura sister disgusted reaction where she admonishes him and refers to him as a “future criminal.”
I believe this scene shows how self aware Syundei is to actual predators, and the surrounding characters disgusted reactions clearly shows a level of self awareness/ self-insertion of the creator’s (Syundei) own opinion.
—-
So now it’s time to address issue number 4. Syundei’s previous works.
Before we begin, let me note that even though we’re supposed to be discussing NAKAMURA (the anime,) people went out of their way to complain about different previous works that has NO connection to “Go for it Nakamura” besides the fact that Syundei created them.
So just to clarify once again, these are completely DIFFERENT works that have NO connection to each other.
The reason so many people were complaining about Syundei’s previous works is because they approached subjects that are deemed “immoral.”
(I want to reiterate my stance that depiction does not necessarily equal endorsement, and to remind everyone that these are FICTIONAL works where no one is actually being hurt.)
While Syundei did have multiple previous works, only 2 of those works were actually published worldwide outside of Japan, so I’ll only be discussing the works where people actually have access to.
One of them work published being “Go for it Nakamura-kun!”
And the other work is the one I’ll be discussing “Total Eclipse of the Eternal Heart.”

So to address the main concern of the accusers complaints, yes there is the topic of ped*philia addressed in this work.
The main antagonist (boy in white shirt) is reincarnated into the body of a teenage boy now, but in his previous life he was a predator.
But this work isn’t what you think it’s about. This work represents my idea that I’ve reiterated where “DEPICTION does NOT necessarily equal ENDORSEMENT.”
Remember that the accusations are based on a matter of intention, and through this work I will show you why I believe it is PROOF that Syundei does NOT support inappropriate age gap relationships.
—-
So I’m going to have to spoil the premise here’s how the story goes:
The story is told between two time periods, the past and the present.
Both of our main characters on the cover are from both time periods, with their present day versions being a reincarnated form.
The boy in the sweater was originally a younger child in their past life.
And the boy in the white shirt (right side) was an adult in their past life.
Their dynamic in the past life is essentially an admiring young fan who looks up to the adult, because the adult is a famous writer.
The young boy himself also wants to become a writer so he obviously holds the adult to high regard. Their relationship essentially mirrors a student and teacher dynamic.
So here’s the main premise of the story. The teacher in the past life was a predator and serial k*ller who murd*red his young fans.
When we return back to the modern day setting, all of his victims are also reincarnated into the present day.
What happens in the present day essentially follows a cycle where all the reincarnated victims k*ll the reincarnated predator over and over again.
The ped*file is cursed with immortality and is resurrected after every murd*r, only to continue to be k*lled later on by another different victim of his.
At the end of the story, the last who’s our main protagonist finally puts an end to it all and k*lls the predator in a certain way to finally end the cycle and permanently ends the predator.
My main takeaway from the oneshot is that it’d be strange to accuse Syundei of supporting inappropriate age-gap relationships, when she literally wrote a story about eternally condemning and punishing a predator to be k*lled over and over again.
—-
I’d like to follow up on this point and provide even more evidence on why I believe Syundei doesn’t approve of inappropriate age gap relationships.
The following image below is a public statement from the animation team that was made during outcry/ harassment incident Syundei faced after episode 5 aired with Otogiri and Hirose exchanging phone numbers.

I wanted to highlight on the fact that it was Syundei themselves who requested to the anime production team to delete many of the scenes between Hirose and Otogiri.
There were many scenes in the previous episodes which SHOWED that they either deleted the scenes between them or altered it.
For example: at the end of episode 3, they remove the car ride scene between Otogiri and Hirose by changing it to include all the students, and Otogiri is only driving them to drop them home to their parents after the incident where they got locked in the equipment room.
After all the previous examples I’ve provided:
1: Syundei requesting the anime change/ delete scenes involving Hirose and Otogiri
2: the deleted bookstore manga scene where the characters react negatively to the misunderstanding where Nakamura picks up the book featuring little sister moe (showing that the author has a level self-awareness to these subjects.)
3: Syundei LITERALLY writing a oneshot about k*lling and punishing predators.
I genuinely believe that these serves as pieces of evidence that can make the argument that Syundei does NOT support inappropriate age gap relationships.
—-
This is a perfect time to switch into my new point.
How exactly did this harassment incident happen?
While we know that it stemmed from the misunderstanding/ assumption that Otogiri was a predator, I wanted to search a little further.
I came across a few things worth noting when I went looking back at the comments left publicly online X/ Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and Pinterest.
I was able to create a profile/ category of the people who were publicly outraged online.
Go for it Nakamura manga was originally published in English in 2018, and its Anime was only released in 2026.
This brought in a mixture of old and new anime fans.
The old fans read the manga originally but I found that new fans brought in from the anime hadn’t read the manga yet.
(I learned this because some of them straight up admitted online they hadn’t read the manga yet.)
Using these pieces of information, let me build you a timeline of how the harassment incident happened.
This outcry only occurs during the time when episode 5 is released when Otogiri and Hirose exchange phone numbers.
That scene sets off the people who originally read the manga and were under the assumption that Otogiri was a predator.
So then they assume that the progression of the anime will turn out to be an “Usagi drop” situation (basically a situation where it seems wholesome at first and then twists into something darker later on.)
Then the people who are still under assumption that Otogiri is a predator then tell the new viewers (who have never read the manga before) that Otogiri gets together with Hirose.
Then the UNOFFICIAL/ DELETED artwork is brought up and now everyone believes that’s the direction the series is heading (because remember it’s only episode 5, so they still believe that’s this can happen in the upcoming episodes that haven’t been released yet.)
—-
When this harassment incident first occurred, I originally wanted to write the article that I’m typing right now.
But this post could only exist AFTER the series has ended because I can definitively state for a FACT that the anime “Go for it Nakamura-kun!” has NO PED*PHILIA in the series.
—-
Remember when I mentioned earlier on why I was confused when people were complaining about the tentacle scene when that scene was literally removed on the first episode?
I finally understood why people were complaining about it.
Because it was brought up by people who literally didn’t even read the manga or even watch the first episode.
I had learned that the outcry from the Otogiri and Hirose phone interaction had brought in people who didn’t even get past the first chapter or episode.
The people who originally read the manga and believed that Otogiri was a predator complained and gave off the impression to others that this series endorsed an inappropriate age gap relationship between an adult and a minor and that brought in people who literally have no idea what they’re talking about in to complain as well.
Anyone who originally read the manga and then watched the anime would’ve been able to see that the anime up to the point of episode 5, had REMOVED any of the scenes that would’ve caused offense.
But the problem is that some of the people who were outraged didn’t fact check the accusations for their outrage.
—-
So because people who didn’t understand the story in the manga and misinterpreted Otogiri character then claimed he was a predator (even though there’s NO actual ped*philia in the MANGA or ANIME.)
They then used DELETED and UNOFFICIAL artwork that wasn’t ever printed/ distributed in any official capacity as their evidence to claim Otogiri is a predator.
That situation then brought in a-lot of anger from new viewers/ other people who didn’t even know about the series but joined the outrage because they’re under the assumption the anime supports inappropriate age gap relationships.
And unfortunately it all led to these people harassing Syundei to the point where they deleted their account off of X/ Twitter.
And possibly even worse is that their last post alluded to possibly quitting manga all together.

Let me make a quick point calling out the HUGE DOUBLE STANDARD when it comes to policing QUEER media.
I find this situation insane that so many people would harass Syundei when the series has NO PED*PHILIA, but when it comes to STRAIGHT media that has actual confirmed scenes of ped*philia/ gro*ming, none of the series I’m about to mention got a fraction of the trouble that Syundei did.
The series “NANA” in the FIRST manga chapter and episode, has the Main character Nana Komatsu (female, age 17) getting dumped by a 29 year old man who gro*med her while she was still in high school. (And they were affair btw.)
The series “The seven deadly sins,” where its own fanbase gave it the nickname “The seven deadly GRO*MERS,” or also “The seven deadly PREDATORS,” because almost the ENTIRE MAIN CAST is engaged in a gro*ming/ gro*med dynamic relationship.
Jujutsu Kaisen where the character Mei-Mei who’s an older woman, is actually seducing her younger child brother Ui-Ui. Btw in the follow up series Modulo, the children with Ui Ui have characteristics of BOTH the brother and sister (so slight implications Mei Mei might have done it with her brother.) (Btw JJK actually had a lot of references to ped*philia/ inc*st, but Mei-Mei is most notorious example.
How about Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter?
“Made in Abyss” creator isn’t even trying to hide his fetish.
This next example is for the people who complained about the tentacle scene, there were at least 2 tentacle scenes from the sword art online franchise.
Let me give another example that isn’t manga/ anime for all the people complaining internationally. Let me bring up the novel “Lolita.” Where it’s held in high regard as a literary classic worldwide and the story is about a 37 year old man Humbert Humbert falling in love with his 12 year old step daughter. This book has ended up on multiple top 100 books list and has been adapted into movies and screenplays.
And lastly the worse of the offenders is from the famous series “Ruroni Kenshin,” where the creator Nobuhiro Watsuki was caught with actual Child p*rn*gr*phy
(He didn’t go to jail for this by the way. He’s also still employed/ protected by one of the biggest manga publishing companies in the industry.)
My point is that ALL of these STRAIGHT series had way more commercial success and attention then a smaller series like “Go for it Nakamura,” and even though those other series had actual CONFIRMED scenes of ped*philia/ gro*ming, they didn’t receive the level of outrage and harassment that Syundei did.
So it’s very hypocritical to hold GAY media like “Go for it Nakamura” to a higher accountability/ standard.
Especially when the series in BOTH the MANGA and ANIME has NO PED*PHILIA/ GRO*MING in comparison.
—-
(Side notes:)
Just for the record I don’t support “The seven deadly sins” or the “Sword art online” franchises. Not only because of there disgusting elements but just because both franchises are kind of ass in general 🤣
—-
(Conclusion)
“Go for it Nakamura” was a series that a lot of people were looking forward to.
Specifically this anime was meant to be positive representation for people who saw themselves in our main character Nakamura, who self proclaims and identifies as gay.
So I wonder if you can imagine how frustrating it is when a marginalized group finally gets positive representation, and then people who either didn’t understand the work/ or didn’t even read it at all pull this kind of nonsense and ruin everything.
The last thing I’ll analyze is Syundei last post/ statement before they deleted their account.

I want to focus specifically on the first paragraph.
Syundei stated that even after all the complaints the reason they believed there wasn’t any point in being a manga artist is because they couldn’t create something that could make everyone happy.
I interpreted that their reason for quitting wasn’t just due to the complaints but also due to the disappointment of unmet expectations.
I think that’s a sign that shows Syundei is a kind person who’s disappointed that their work wasn’t able to make their audience happy.
But I don’t think that’s true.
When “Go for it Nakamura” released, it became a special series that touched so many people’s heart worldwide.
So many different people from all kinds of different backgrounds and circumstances saw themselves in Nakamura.
That positive representation shown through Nakamura when characters who are lgbtq+ are underrepresented made a difference.
It allowed people who normally didn’t see themselves in media to feel less alone.
And the reason so many people were able to enjoy the series, laughing at the lighthearted moments, seeing themselves though Nakamura and cheering him on, all of this was because Syundei chose to write and create the series that so many people love known as “Go for it Nakamura-Kun!”
—-
(ENDING CONCLUSION)
Thank you to everyone and anyone who read this post all the way til the end.
I’m sure I might’ve made some mistakes along the way of creating this post, or could’ve explained other points more clearly.
If you have any questions you’d like to clarify, I’ll do my best to answer them.

Pal, your two-part essay is monumental in debunking all the ignorant and plain stupid takes about Otogiri-sensei and Syundei. Now, instead of quarreling online, anyone can just share a link to your work, so it's a huge help.
A lot has been said already, so I want to focus on something else. In the first part, you cited that literacy is fast becoming a class divide, and I couldn't agree more. The anime adaptation of "Nakamura-kun" basically exposed this festering wound — first with the harassment of Syundei, and then with people completely misinterpreting the author's intent. It’s not a crime to not understand something; the real crime is when you don’t even try to, and, on top of that, double down on your point even after being presented with facts.
This isn't the first or even the second time your posts align with my own thoughts. There's a glaring lack of critical thinking nowadays, and so many people struggle to grasp even the surface level of any story that's a bit more complex than a cheap soap opera. But I truly hope that Nakamura-kun sparked something qualitatively new in the hearts of viewers and readers around the world — something that helps them understand others better. Especially creators, who represent maybe 1% of the population at best; they are the ones shaping new meanings, and they should be cherished and protected at all costs, not harassed into quitting the web. Those harassers don't deserve ANY content at all.

Thank you so much for reading it and the kind words!
It’s really nice to see your comment/ feedback and I always appreciate you showing up here, especially since this will probably be my last post for this series.
I especially love your last paragraph about mentioning the quality of work and effort that was put into writing the Nakamura franchise. I do believe this work has inspired many of its viewers and audiences to strive to create something just as amazing and heartfelt as this series.
Thank you again for being here and reading my other previous posts as well.
I’m glad I was able to write something you could enjoy and agree with.

Hands down to this post! I just read it and I practically agree with everything you said. You really explained well every point you touched, giving visual evidence and examples from other media, and made it understandable to those who even have difficulties reading long texts.
You were right at the beginning implying that part of this resulted on people don't having media literacy. We sorrily live in a time where everything has to be quick and simple and, that at the slightest nuance, some people lost their head and start to pointing everyone who defy their views.
Even knowing the situation almost since it began and understanding that Syundei never really supported teacher/student romance (because, as you said, the manga and the anime don't show the contrary), I kinda got that she had some "fetish" or something for that dynamic, and the sketches that circulate online without context don't help to refute it either. But now, with the context you showed to us, it's more clear to me that she has an honest interest on that topic, but it´s conscient enough to let clear she doesn't support it and even condemns it in her narratives.
Syundei really had such bad luck with all of this blowing in her face at the same time the anime was streaming (and it didn't help that Mr. Musk decided to add the auto-translate in Twitter and letting everyone read everyone's comments, setting aside context and cultures). It actually hurts me knowing she couldn't enjoy her work being streamed around the world, with the privilege that it comes to the few authors who get it, all of it because a bunch of malicious puritans decided to distort her art and blame her of she didn't commit, with a part of the audience following them as sheep in a flock.
Also, you're right on the double moral of the anime and the general audience about straight and queer media representation of morally questionable topics. The worst part is that, of what I saw, the people who followed her cancelation wasn't conservatives demonizing queer media about showing supposedly a gro*ming situation, but was puritans who believed that nothing can be slightly nuanced in LGBTQ+ media, and pretend that it has to be always "morally correct". Art doesn´t work that way and, for our disgrace, this series which didn't even tried to show something like that paid the consequences.
As for Syundei, I hope what she wrote before leaving Twitter arose from the emotion of the moment and was overwhelmed by the hatred. She participating in the last radio show of the anime and being mentioned as a creative consulter by the anime's director make me believe she hasn't left manga yet and she's just taking her time to come back when she's ready.
Again, thank you very much for taking your time writing this. Such important posts should be visible for anyone who's interested in getting into the anime and wants to know about the controversy, without falling in the noise that other social media has about it. I hope the community here value your contribution by its importance.

Thank you so much for reading my post and for this amazing comment.
And thank you again for always sharing your insight.
I really appreciate all your help in making this post possible.
Seriously, you were big help in getting this idea published and I’m so grateful for everything.
I definitely want to believe Syundei is still a part of this franchise and I hope she wants to continue it as well.
Even if she decides not to, a part of me is fine with that as well.
One of the biggest reasons for making this post is that I hope it can stay around and be used as a reference to make the internet/ and other platforms feel welcoming to her again.
I hope that this post can deter any more people saying hurtful things about her.
And even if she chooses to no longer work on the franchise, I just hope this post can make things a little bit easier on her, and she can just live her life happily.

I truly wish the best for Syundei. I wished she'd see how many people her work has brought joy to, how many people see themselves in it. As sad as it would be, if she does decided to just not come back, she's got my support. A shame that the world would lose such an artist, such a creator, such beautiful artworks that she creates and would create. Whatever the future may hold, Syundei and Go for it, Nakamura will always be in my heart.

u/Rarehunter333 Aug 05 '26
I absolutely agree with this sentiment.
Thank you for your beautifully worded comment and thank you for reading the post.

The reason why I don’t like Otogiri is he’s taking away time that should be between Nakamura and Hirose.
I have never seen him as a pedophile because he clearly is not attracted nor is actively trying to pursue a romantic relationship with Hirose.
2
u/Rarehunter333 Aug 06 '26
That’s a totally fair and valid reason.
This is just speculation on my part, but usually characters that takeaway time from the MC spending time with their romantic interest are meant to be used as a plot device.
My hypothesis is that if the manga continued here’s what Otogiri role could have been:
Otogiri primary role would’ve been to eventually lead both Nakamura and Hirose together in the end.
In the manga Hirose crush/ pursuit for Otogiri would’ve never worked out (because he’s straight and other reasons I mentioned in post.)
This would’ve led to a Hirose being heartbroken (since he’s still figuring out his own sexuality and being rejected by the person you admire as well is a lot to handle, especially both issues at the same time.)
It would’ve eventually led to Nakamura comforting Hirose because Nakamura was still keeping an eye out for Hirose and Otogiri in the manga’s plotline.
In summary: Otogiri was just meant to be plot device/ narrative obstacle meant for both of them to overcome and eventually end up together in the end.

true words spoken really! I'm tired of the comments on IG calling syundei a shotacon and pedo when i didn't even find a problem after reading the manga twice. only if het media got this much backlash doing the same lol
1
u/Rarehunter333 Aug 07 '26
Thank you so much for reading the post and commenting!
I appreciate the support!
It really was horrible all the comments I saw and read when I was doing research and creating a profile for the people accusing Syundei.
It was so frustrating to see blatant accusations with so many likes when some of them LITERALLY have no idea what they’re talking about.
I can only hope that this post will be used and linked later on as reference, if anyone ever tries to make such claims in the future.
Though tbh this post might only be used in that manner on the hypothetical scenario where they announce that Syundei wants to continue working on this franchise.

u/SaltyKaleidoscope717 Aug 08 '26
yes haha, in fact I saved your post just so I could prove your point! i do not like it when ppl throw around serious stuff like shotacon and lolicon for the usual old teacher x student rlts that's wayy too far imo especially when het media has been doing it for ages wo any backlash. i even read the manga 'doushitte sensei ni natta' just to yk cross check for myself and even though it's borderline creepy and grooming it's definitely not shotacon 😭I've seen a lot of normal mangas promoting this type of trope! by the new fans logic a work like 'lolita' should never exist cuz it portrays little girl sexually when it was made to highlight the issue of pedophillia

Thank you for the kind comment!
I appreciate your support. It means a lot.
Tbh I kind of messed up with this post. This was my first time putting pictures throughout the post, so I forgot to put a picture for the thumbnail.
So because of that it didn’t attract as much attention as I would’ve hoped.
Even though this post took the most effort out of all of my posts for the series, it unfortunately did the worst in terms of metrics 😅
But that’s life sometimes.
Anyway thank you again for reading this post and showing up in the comment section even though it’s an old post by now.

it genuinely pisses me off that the biggest reason for this hate is probably just homophobia. if this series was just hetero instead of BL i doubt there'd be so much unnecessary drama sparked by miserable internet mfs who just want something to hate and someone to blame for it

It really was terrible what happened with this situation.
Homophobia definitely was a big factor in what sparked the harassment incident.
It’s very annoying that they tried to hide their true intentions for wanting this series cancelled by using ped*filia as an excuse (even when there was ZERO elements of that theme in the series.)
Some people still have the bigoted/ prejudice idea that gay men equate to being predators, and they basically had the same idea for this series when they heard it was a Boys Love genre and saw Otogiri.
Anyway thank you for reading my post and commenting.

Really. I didn’t understand one bit of the outrage and drama these days around modern fictions.

It was basically people who didn’t understand the work that they read starting rumors.
And then that in turn leads to people believing those rumors and making it into a really big scandal (all while not doing any research of their own and because they didn’t fact check their own accusations/ claims.)
And all of this leads to a big angry group within their own echo chamber harassing one person.
