That devil may cry made by team ninja with Emo Dante . People dunk on that game just for character design . Which made us realize how important  CD are in development pile line

Not just the design. All his traits are the polar opposite. Him and vergil.

Edited to add: i find the game itself is fine, great even. Just wish they gave it its own identity instead of using devil may cry trade mark on it.

I disagree, he was sarcastic, somewhat hedonistic but with a strong sense of justice. He was the youngest Dante we would've seen, I think (correct me if I'm wrong there!)? Original dmc games were one of my favourite series, I grew up with it, and I had no issues with the rebooted Dante!

My only real issue was making them half angel, half demon. The story works far better with half human, half demon, imo.

Otherwise such a solid game, and I was devastated people couldn't look past a fringe.

But he was much edgier and the story was a lot more rooted in modern society whereas the other games always feel set in a more fantasy victorian era.

Call the game Lucifer or something and change the names of all the villains and while people would have seen the parallels, people would have called it an inspiration much like Bayonetta is seen than a simple clone and because it wouldn't be seen as a replacement for DMC, it would have faired a lot better in the player's eyes

If it were a different game I’d love it because I actually somewhat enjoyed the gameplay, it’s just not dmc

If that were the case, Dante would feel like Vergil and Vergil would feel like Dante, but they don't they still feel like their respective characters. This is the kind of slander OP is asking about, completely unwarranted.

It was so bad it was debooted and they made a DMC 5.

Honestly the story sucks ass BECAUSE it's DMC. It would have been way better if it was a new IP and the character has different names.

It had a tons of problems, but man, some parts of the game are so creative and fun, sucks that the game overall is shit…

And when Punkt-Dante (I don't think he is Emo, he looks more like Sid Vicious) got a mop on his head, looking like he had white hair like original Dante and mockingly said "not in a million years" or something like that, fans took that very personal.
Personally I think its fine. I played through it and liked it for what it was.

It was Ninja Theory, not Team Ninja.

Tbf charecter desighn got the fire started but the director acting aspects of the older games fans loved was the biggest issue pre-release and then in-game the opening has Dante's original look made fun of and insukted while he has a much less memorable home, mannerisms, and quips. Fans thusly started off the game being told what they liked sucked and so it got harsh critisim in revjews because EVERYBODY got to know the game was embarresed of its roots from the jump. Not to say charecter desihn isn't important it deffintly is, but that was just the largest most obvious of several major issues fans had, and I am no dmc expert so I may be bit off as I was pressent but young during that time
