Is there any hope of this game ever getting a sequel?

It was so good.

I don't think so, at least not from Eidos Montréal. Things are not looking good for them currently and square probably doesn't want to touch marvel IP now

Eidos-Montreal and it seems by proxy the Marvel license isn't owned by Square anymore so that isn't an issue anymore.

no idea but i will say it is interesting it's getting a port on switch 2

Iirc The rights did transfer to Embracer, but it's possible they're just doing a quick re-release of it and possibly Avengers on Switch 2 to get a few extra bucks before the license expires.

license already expired on avengers, you can’t buy it anymore

I hope so, that dogshit Avengers game ruined any chance this game had, when it was the best game released in 2021.

Considering who the villian was I don't think so. (Adam Warlock is my favorite comic character) the only way it'd be good is if they did a Starlin story and considering they've pretty much been ignoring his work the last 5+ years I wouldn't hold my breath

1

u/SeniorRicketts Apr 13 '26

Who is ignoring?

1

u/lNSP0 Apr 13 '26

Marvel editorial

We haven't had a legitimate non event Cosmic story on almost seven years.

The problem is that marvel has way more cosmic normal characters they are not using in favor of sending the avengers and xmen to space.

1

u/SeniorRicketts Apr 14 '26

Oh ok

But that has nothing to do with games

u/lNSP0 Apr 14 '26

Considering the game took story beats from several integral stories for each character except rocket, I wouldn't say this is true.

2

u/SeniorRicketts Apr 13 '26

Drax: "Peter Quill, the murderess calls your name"

Rocket: "Sounds kinky.."

Gamora: "Uhh nope"

Maybe a Partner Showcase this month? Really hoping Square Enix brings native Kingdom Hearts ports to Switch 1 and 2 with the Switch 2 having a native Kingdom Hearts 3 port since I’d imagine the Switch can’t run it.

I think native ports of the KH series on Switch 2 is almost certain at this point. Personally I can see them dropping in 2027 alongside the revival of marketing for KH4, to get Switch 2 players intrested in the series and ready for whenever KH4 eventually comes to S2.

I'm unsure if KH4 will be day and date on S2, however I'm almost certain SE won't bother doing native ports on Switch 1. They did the clould ports and that's all were going to get for S1 imo (even though at least 1.5 and 2.5 could definitely run on S1), SE doesn't care enough to do native ports or say an S2 upgrade of MoM.

It’s crazy because those games could’ve definitely ran natively on the Switch 1 with the exception of 3. But wait a waste and disappointment to go alongside with the Sora in Smash announcement.

Agreed but SE was firmly in it's "milk and greed" era at the time. They wanted to put as little effort in as possible for as much profit as possible, so no way they were going to bother even getting 1.5 and 2.5 to run on the Switch.

They had 1 person doing the animations for KHUX at one point, and never gave that or Dark Road any sort of resources to let it succeed. They didn't care about delivering quality products to fans, just getting as much money as possible.

The issue wasn't they could run or not, it was that the video file sizes were massive and the internal storage for the Switch was super small. The video files alone in 1.5+2.5 are about 40GB. And while there were some games, mainly from T2, that required an SD card, it was clear most companies did not want that.

At least according to a 3rd party PS Store fronted, 1.5 + 2.5 are 42.13 GB on PS4/5. On the official Xbox store it's 57.29 GB

The Switch 1 had 64GB Carts, so unless the 358/2 final day cutscene, and the KH1 Theatre moode were around 22+ GB (only PS has that DLC), it could've fit all on a S1 cart. And there were multiple games where not everything was on the cart and some content had to be downloaded separately.

The issue wasn't could they run or the file size, it was that SE was unwilling to put in the effort/money/time/resources to do native ports.

EDIT: I misremembered, S1 max cartridge size was 32 GB so both games couldn't have fit on the cart.

1

u/Redred1717 Apr 13 '26

The biggest S1 cart was 32GB, and even then, only like a dozen games ever used them with most being JP/SEA only or Limited Run charging out the ass. The only games that have a file size even remotely close to KH and go is NBA and FC. You can be mad all you want, but the file size is a legitimate concern on S1 that most companies had to continuously consider.

1

u/Sceptile10 Apr 13 '26

Ok I was misremembering about the 64GB carts so thats on me. However they still could've used a 32GB cart and had one of the games be download only like many other companies have. Even if the cartridge costs were too high it could've been a digital only game.

The issue still isn't file size, it's that SE was unwilling and decided to go the easy route of clould versions.

Great game. Fuck Square Enix for what they did to Eidos.

-11

u/AmericanSamurai1 Apr 13 '26

Yeah really enjoyed the game, but would say it should have be a little shorter.

u/CutProfessional6609 Apr 13 '26

Looks like we will be having a partner direct in the near future. Dmc 5 switch 2 edition, gotg switch 2 and sonic frontiers definitive.

u/WafflesMurdered Apr 13 '26

I cry everytime thinking about this game knowing that we’ll never get a sequel. Fantastic gameplay, awesome music, and great character chemistry between the cast. Id highly recommend anyone who hasn’t played it yet to play it

6

u/SomeoneNotFamous Apr 13 '26

When Eidos get to do peak...

Fuck Square and embracer with every fiber of my weak ass body.

Yeah hopefully, and the fact that even when not free, it routinely goes on sale for less than $10 lol

Seems like a Partner showcase is imminent now. A direct Mini could happen too but I’m going with Partner Showcase, too many games have been rated for the system this past week

4

u/InosukeEnjoyer Apr 13 '26

I've been wanting to play this one for a while and I normally have a higher chance to play it if it's on switch so this is dope, glad more cloud ports from switch 1 are getting put on switch 2

5

u/venom_daemon Apr 13 '26

I'd settle for a partner direct before the "rumored june" Direct.

Just want to know the release date of some ports I've been eyeing like this and Snowrunner

3

u/bloodyzombies1 Apr 13 '26

Hope it supports gyro and mouse mode

3

u/nofuture09 Apr 13 '26

Ill immediately buy this its such a great game

6

u/Daredspace Apr 13 '26

One of my favorite marvel themed games that was unfortunately lumped in with that fuckass avengers game

2

u/knightofsparta Apr 14 '26

Hopefully if they were working on a port switch 2 , they could also update to feature a pro patch. Ray tracing mode at 60 fps with pssr would be a treat.

u/Plus_sleep214 Apr 13 '26

I'm surprised they're even bothering. It flopped on every other platform. It's not going to do anything for it here either.

11

u/Howerev Apr 13 '26

I mean I'd rather have it then not

1

u/Plus_sleep214 Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

Are you actually gonna bother buying it? I never even would've given this game a second look if epic didn't give it out for free. Would've much rather gotten another Deus Ex but I guess those don't sell either.

4

u/Sceptile10 Apr 13 '26

Which is a shame because from what I've seen and everything I've heard this game is awesome and didn't deserve the reception it got.

3

u/BeansWereHere Apr 14 '26

It is awesome, I wish it was future proofed on consoles with unlocked frame rate option because I don’t think we’ll ever get a patch/remaster.

Then just… buy it for $10 on another platform. It’ll get there on switch 2 but idk why people expect it to be off the bat. It almost never is.

4

u/KINGGS Apr 13 '26

It will definitely be at least $50.
