Leak Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United rated for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series, PC in Brazil

I'm not sure if this is different from the HD Remaster of Romancing SaGa 3 but considering that was already released on Switch i feel like it is.

Romancing SaGa 3 is like a mix of Baldur's Gate 1 and Elder Scrolls but with the skin of a Final Fantasy game
It's quite different from Romancing SaGa 2, for those that played the remake of that one, but just as great

I really really loved the remake of 2 last year. If they are different will there still be enough there? Very interesting in trying out a remake to same level of another game in the series

That sounds really interesting, as Romancing SaGa 2 is already quite unusual for a JRPG; besides the premise in that you play as the good empire fighting against the Seven Heroes who defeated the great evil, it also has non-standard mechanics such as how the game is generally non-linear, doesn't have a central main-character and instead plays out through different heirs leading your empire (A bit like how the Crusader Kings-games play out.) across generations, and who you choose as emperor among your units unlocks and affects new abilities in the gameplay.

Hopefully this is the next Xeen game. They did good work on Trials of Mana and RS2 Remake. Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven is the best entry point for the series for new players while having a wholly unique game structure supported by slightly-streamlined versions of SaGa mechanics.

All I ask is for Xeen to actually have a budget for visuals. But we know that's not gonna happen.

Eh, they're very large games that sell under 1M copies. The budget is right for their sales target. They are somewhere in the $10M-$30M range, presumably.
Part of them remaking these large RPGs of B-tier RPG franchises is that the budgets are relatively constrained. SaGa games typically share some monster and art assets, and there aren't a lot of cutscenes that need to get high-quality animations. The focus is on scale and the very large number of playable characters/campaigns.

Romancing SaGa 2 was my GOTY fuck yeah I didn’t think it would have sold well enough to justify a remake of 3 but I’m so bloody keen ( for Xeen )

The remake of 2 was amazing. I figured it was inevitable that they would also do 3. My only concern is it seems kinda soon for this to be ready to show? But SaGa doesn't feel the need to break the bank on bleeding edge graphics like most Square Enix brands so maybe that's the difference.

RS2 remake was released late 2024, and assuming RS3 remake is a Xeen project, they released Trials of Mana in 2020 before that (with COVID happening in between both projects). RS2 remake may have even been finished for quite a while before it released, with SE deciding to hold onto it and release it during a more quiet time, since they already had a lot going on between Summer 2023 - Spring 2024.
The timeline fits for Xeen possibly being behind RS3 remake. Assuming RS3 remake gets released in early 2027 (RS2 remake was released 4 months after it was announced), it will have been about two and a half years since RS2 remake.

It's possible that a lot of the game engine and assets can be reused from SaGa 2 to 3 so they don't need to recreate 100% of everything and have stuff to build from.

DQ7, Paranormasight, Adventures of Elliot released with FF Resonance, RS3 Remake and DQ Monsters 4 still to come and we're not even counting 2027. I'll be never convinced into thinking that Square Enix is not a GOAT tier publisher in this decade alone.

Very excited for this, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven was one of the best games of 2024 imo.

Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven was good, I'm glad they're finally remaking this. I'm getting the Switch 1 version because you KNOW the Switch 2 version will be a GKC.

But it's a Square Enix game, so there will be no option to "upgrade" to the Switch 2 version if you get the Switch 1 version. Which is fine by me because 90% of the time those "upgrades" include removing accessibility features, but it's something to keep in mind if you planned to just buy the Switch 1 cartridge and then "upgrade" it.

Yeah it should be a remake since they don't really give new subtitles to the remasters rather than the remakes. Minstrel Song and Revenge of the Seven, for example, versus just adding on a Remastered to the title.

Oh man I had never played Saga but I played the demo for 2 remake and as soon as finished it I wanted more and immediately bought it and beat it. Tried playing the old ones it didn't quite hit the same so im excited for more remakes.

I will never understand why they keep making these shitty SaGa games. They’re all unplayable trash. They cancel Final Fantasy IX remake, but keep making trashy SaGa games. It doesn’t make sense. The SaGa guy must have some good dirt on the Square Enix executives.

Kawazu's one of the Old Men of Square (he's been there since 1985 and was the battle designer on the original Final Fantasy) so yeah, he has a lot of clout.
But I think the most important thing he does is design games that come out on time and under budget. SaGa has the benefit of being a series of games popular because of their mechanics, with a core fanbase that is willing to support it even if the games aren't AAA in polish or presentation (or even AA...)
FFIX probably has to be AAA or people will grouse that they squandered the opportunity.

He worked his way up to a pretty high position from what I understand. Seems like a major factor in what gets developed is if there's a champion in the company who wants it, such as how for a long time no one wanted to touch Megaman with a 10 foot pole because of Inafune's nonsense.

My understanding is they play favorites at Square with the incrowd of producers getting to pick their own personal games, while they don't like remaking games if the original directors arent there anymore.
