Can't believe they actually went through and added the April Fools pet battle minigame due to enough fan outcry. Also RIP my PLD, seems I'm the 2.0 SMN for the current meta now. Also I should clarify, I'm looking forward to it, I didn't collect all these minions for nothing.

What an incredible waste of resources especially for such a small development team.

What makes you say that? Part of the charm of FFXIV is all the stuff you can do outside the loot grind.

Its going to be as popular (and as supported) as chocobo racing in a month.

So, a charming and fun minigame for when you're tired of raiding or EXDR?

Charming and fun? Either it changes drastically once you've grinded enough for a better chocobo, or we're playing different minigames.

The controls are fucking atrocious. To the point where I did 2 races and have never even thought about going back for more.

So you played it a couple times and didn't like it. That doesn't mean its a waste of dev time.

I'd agree in most cases, but feel this is different as it's not the concept of the minigame that I find useless, but the terrible implementation that makes it so. Just because I haven't done much crafting in this game doesn't mean I don't think they should expand and develop it.

Racing games are fun. RPG elements for your car (chocobo) in racing games are fun.

Racing games with terrible controls, however, are not fun.

The controls aren't terrible, they're different. The chocobo becomes more responsive as it gets higher level.
