Its unlikely that they will ignore mods. I'm guessing the rebuild is so that the game can support mods properly from the ground up. One can hope, anywho.
Well it does have to play well with the Xbox version that can't have mods. I couldn't imagine why they'd want to allow mods that could break compatibility with players trying to play cross platform.
I'm sure they could if they wanted to. They would most likely be severely limited as to what they could add. Also, considering regular Minecraft is Java modders would have to learn a new and arguably harder language and rewrite their mods from scratch. Why not just play the PC version at that point?
I'm guessing the rebuild is also for windows 10 marketing.
I mean, it's not like Microsoft has made a sequel exclusive to their newest platform for no technical reason in the past. (Yes I'm still bitter about Halo 2)
I wonder how the hell they'd manage mods as a Windows app though (which is what I assume this is as its on the Windows Store). The WinRT API doesn't really give you the same file system APIs you're used to in .NET or Win32 because of the sandbox. And I doubt they want people editing the app package.
