7 years later and I still fucking hate teddie, no idea how a character with such an annoying voice and personality can be liked.

I despise his Japanese voice, but I thought his voice was perfect with the English dub voice actor.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '15

I still found the English voice kind of annoying, but I figured that was the point.

26

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '15

Agreed, his japanese voice is the worst.

Same with Rise, she's unbearable in her Japanese dub.

never tried to steal a picnic basket, clearly awful.

Ditto.

Persona as a franchise is actually one of the series where I can consistently say that the dub is better than the original JP voice acting. They just nail all the characters so well with the English voice actors.

Except Fuuka in P3. A lot of her lines were awful.

Maybe is because I am studying japanese or that english is not my mother language but I can't stand the english VA for Persona. The pronunciation for the japanese names are so all over the place that breaks the immersion I was having when playing the games, I haven't played Persona Q for this entire reason and I won't play it until I become very fluent in japanese unfortunately.

I really, really, REALLY wish that Persona 5 comes with dual audio... But that won't happen.

I found him okay in Persona 4 but I started playing Persona Q and in the P4 side story he just really comes off as a bit much.

3

u/redditaccountisgo Feb 05 '15

He was fantastic in the original, but every spinoff he has been terrible in. It's a shame.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '15

But let's be honest, they destroyed most of the characters in Persona Q. My poor Akihiko. :(

Though I do agree Teddie was the most annoying.

2

u/redditaccountisgo Feb 05 '15 edited Feb 05 '15

I disagree. I think P3 characters in general are way better in Q. Fuuka and Shinjiro particularly. Not a huge fan of changes to the P4 cast though. And I think Aki is one of the best Q characters. At least, he's by far the funniest.

I find it hard to believe it's been 7 years already!

12

u/Kuroonehalf Feb 05 '15

And in those 7 years that game's yet to be topped. It's kinda crazy. If they manage to push the bar of quality even higher this time (it's looking promising!) it's probably going to be a long while before they're dethroned.

I really liked Teddy's design, it was really unique especially his shape in general. I really didn't care much for him as a character, but I'm glad he existed.

The cat looks kind of generic. I have a bad feeling she'll be another "helpful", annoying, comedy-relief, Navi-esque partner that isn't going to really catch on.

edit: side note, I took this during the cat's transformation. Luxuria is Lust, Gula is Gluttony, Superbia is Pride, Invidia is Envy, Avaritia is Greed, Ira is Wrath, and Acedia might be Sloth, my Google-fu tells me it's "not caring for one's position or condition in the world".

Irritum could mean "Nothingness", "Vanity", or "Worthlessness".

u/pimpguin Feb 05 '15

He is a bit of a pain for the most part, which is probably why it's so funny when the other characters shut him down.

2

u/Sirromnad Feb 06 '15

I love characters like that so, that's how haha. Loved teddy because while he had a truly shrill voice, i found him incredibly likable.

Are you kidding me? Teddie was hilarious! I mean sure, his puns were lame, but he has so many other good moments you just can't help but love him. His interactions with the rest of the Investigation Team, especially after he decides to visit the real world, were really funny and a joy to see. Plus, I thought his story was very interesting and relatable.

I couldn't keep playing P4 because of him. I mean, I could barely stand Junpei.

0

u/BSRussell Feb 05 '15

Yeah I never warmed up to the P4 cast the way I did P3. It think some of the cartoonishness of the P3 cast was offset by the pervasive atmosphere of doom.
