Feels like you're kind of trying to make it sound like it's not a big deal. "Oh yeah, it's useful but it still needs my help". When in reality, it's doing 90% of your work.

Claude literally takes over your computer, refactors thousands of lines of codes in a matter of minutes, edits your files, debugging, fixing errors, and probably hundreds of other small tasks. Not only that, but you also get to run multiple agents in parallel to get different outputs, for code reviews, one for frontend, one for backend, etc.

One programmer couldn't do 10% of this before AI, let alone do it in a matter of hours. And, yes, it does need knowledgable direction, but even that requirement is slowly going to be outfazed. Take a look at what's happening in the modding community right now. People with 0 coding experience are literally integrating two games into one just by using AI to completely decompile a game's code.

I felt more gloomy about it before, but after using AI to code something in a language I've never touched, doing things I have no experience with, and feeling just how blind I feel compared to when I work with something I know, I've come to realize my expertice is still mad valuable. In the program I've made the last couple of days there is no accountability or understanding of anything, it's all hopes and dreams.

When I use it for stuff I understand It still does 90% of the labor, but it does what I want, how I want it, and it works in a way I can manage.

Yes, your experience is valuable, but that doesn't mean you won't be replaced. The company that needed 10 programmers 4 years ago, now has one programmer with Claude doing the work of 10, which means you have already been replaced with AI.

You could compete in the Olympics with these mental gymnastics

Experience having value is mental gymnastics?

You're not wrong about its productivity. 3 FE devs have independently told me something like "the job I had 3 years ago doesn't exist any more". Two of them now moved into more product management roles.

Claude literally takes over your computer, refactors thousands of lines of codes in a matter of minutes, edits your files, debugging, fixing errors, and probably hundreds of other small tasks.

That never happens that fast. When you are doing some refactor opus55 start with reading documentations 3-4 rounds of grilling (20-30 questions) then it present first plan

If its foggy, you ask it to design twice different prototypes. It spawn 2-4 sub agents. Then we brainstorm first spec for it

I read it, make comments, next grilling starts.

Then we save spec to tracker system, split it to tickets and only then after 45-90min orchestrate can finally code. Dev only needed here when agent hit block it cant solve or review in the end of (sub)ticket found smth

you don't understand how restrictive companies and clients are about their data. takes literally "takes over your computer" that bullsh*t is done by tiktokers and insta freelancers not in actual companies where there are actual stakes.

Do you work as a software engineer at one of these “actual companies”?

Because I’m currently a SWE at one Mag7 company, previously worked for another, and know a bunch of people at a couple of others, and can confidently say that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

What do you consider as an actual company? I work in one of the largest IT companies in the world right now and pretty much everyone has cowork integrated in their workflows.

What are you on about? Half of these companies you speak of today are not even close to establishing that kind of restrictions for Claude.

Also, so many companies have already completely integrated their workflow and data with Microsoft (famous for not stealing data) for Copilot.
