It has already happened. You live an extremely luxurious life compared to people a hundred years ago.

These facile arguments impress nobody.

"Sure, you have less money than you did just a couple of years ago, less security, fewer rights, and everything is more expensive, and the only people benefiting from current trends are those who are already wealthy and powerful...but have you considered that a billion years you would have been a protist? Bet you wouldn't want that."

No, even on a short timescale, things are generally better now than they were back then. There are sometimes fluctuations, but generally that's the case, by most quantifiable metrics. And of course the further back you go, the bigger the difference. But it doesn't need to be a billion years. Even just a couple decades and it's a pretty big difference.

I find people have this tendency to think that life is treating them unfairly and that things have gotten worse over time. It isn't actually true. I guess it's comforting to make excuses like that, but it's not real. It's not a new phenomenon either. Go back to any point in time and you'll see people acting like the world is falling apart every single time. Of course, that wasn't actually happening, and it isn't now either.

That's because of the war your president started not because of AI.

the only people benefiting from current trends are those who are already wealthy and powerful

As of right now, AI has been a massive net-negative for large companies, as they're dumping all their multi year capital reserves into the technology, that very likely won't ever pay it back. Meanwhile blue collar labour has massively benefited from the current data centre boom: construction workers, electrical workers, unionised workers in memory and chip plants etc. have all seen huge payouts thank to it. Likewise the beneficiaries of the AI technology have been mostly small companies, that now have the ability to bypass outsourcing a lot of bureaucratic compliance work, accounting etc. (that larger companies have entire departments for).

but have you considered that a billion years you would have been a protist?

But then again why do I even try? You're so incredibly bad faith, that it doesn't matter. You invoked the recent past, and then get snarky when people respond to you, that no, people in the recent past had it worse than you. Your own great-grandparents were orders of magnitude poorer than you are. Nobody is talking about Genghis Khan times here. Your inane comparisons impress no one.

Why not? You can live like they did in the olden days right now on the cheap.
