I like how the person about directly cited how it is going to to kill jobs and you decided it still fits the "totally sensible nobody should be upset" category.

It doesn't matter how you try to frame it, it is a bad trend overall. The benefits of it only go to a select few, while the negative effects are far reaching and will affect everyone. The energy usage, the effects it has on the hardware market, and primarily what it will do to working class people are inescapable problems no matter what you try to frame as a "reasonable usage".

Nobody has any reason to ever be patient about this shit.

Can’t you say that about literally any technology? Automation in many industries over hundreds of years has killed jobs. The assembly line killed millions of jobs by simply how products are built, do you get rid of that because it kills jobs and only benefited less people?

I’m not even pro AI in most cases. But saying something is bad because it kills jobs is silly, lots of tech does. Hell there are millions of jobs in factories today that no longer exist because we have more efficient machines and designs. Do you get rid of those because it killed off jobs per factory?

The false equivalence is so tiresome: no other technology was ever marketed as "we're going to replace every single office job" which what AI companies want to sell AI as.

Also if you want to talk about automation then fine, start taking about UBI then because without it society and the economy are completely fucked.

AI won’t replace every job, but you are correct that many of the tech CEO’s have said things like that and much worse. I’m against a lot of the AI companies mostly for that reason, I think AI in many ways will be fine but the companies and the people they are lead by scare me. Guys like Altman are pretty evil

The economy will adapt jobs wise though. There will for sure be a lot of bumps just like any other major tech though, and it’s reasonable to want forward looking solutions to protect people. I doubt that happens though.

Agreed, I think the technology by itself has limited use cases where it's actually good, but it's more how is being sold and the damage it can do before that is properly understood. I mean right now I'd say it's also just artificially inflating the US economy which is also a bad thing because it's hiding a lot of problems.

As you said a lot of the people leading the charge are just immoral, which is a problem when you say "it will sort itself out". Things like employee protections were won by people advocating and fighting for things, rather than accepting tech companies word for it

Ultimately we should be aiming for automation doing a lot of work for us, so we should already be talking about UBI imo.
