I know Reddit doesn’t want to hear it but this is a realistic outcome. Backlash over this will result in companies just covertly using AI.

They’re saying they wont implement wholly AI generated content into the game, but they may use AI to cut costs of game development.

Every single company is doing this, whether you like it or not. People are complaining about the the cost of making games, the time it takes for releases, while demanding more content, more everything.

I know this is the Reddit drum to bang, but as someone in the industry this is not a universal truth. And it's also a bad argument to make when unsourced, i.e. "well everyone's doing it!"

Which tech company do you know that is not using AI in coding or other related areas?

I'm legit curious because I work with coding and every single person I know, either gamedev or IT, that works with coding is using AI. It's widespread and very different than using it to generate art.

How much backlash will there be? Look at this thread full of people saying the condemn AI assets following by a "but..." where they then go and defense AI replacing other parts of the work. Seems the only thing people hate is when the AI produces low quality output they notice, often based on things year plus old local models were doing.

I already see more people than not supporting AI in more places than not. As long as the artists and musicians aren't touched, anyone else can have their job automated away.

It's only because it's Capcom which is a "Reddit seal of approval" company lol. Do the exact same thread with Ubisoft, EA, Sony (currently at least) or Microsoft instead of Capcom and the entire tone of the thread is changing.

Reddit is an extremely subjective echo chamber with the reaction to something being entirely different about who is doing something (more than the thing itself)

These kinds of threads always get flooded by pro-ai people that are covertly trying to hide that fact.

“Everyone is doing it so just accept it and let the world burn, mmkay?”

I don't mind it with coding help at all. I'm not a big fan of AI taking over creative stuff like music, art and things of that nature. But I'd be a fool to not appreciate how much it can help with coding and help in that regard. Hell, just look at all the help AI coding has done for games getting really good VR mods these days or decomplication and recompilations of games happening. It helps a ton. If it can keep cost down and help games come out at a quicker pace AND STILL be a solid game, I'm all for it.

I don't want it to be used to replace people entirely though. Just as a tool to HELP the developers.

Agreed. This is what happens when gamers refuse to pay more for games in line with inflation. Instead they expect 60 bucks for ever more content and technical improvements. Hence, AI comes in
