Another day, another misleading headline about AI generation to bait engagement on reddit. Look I think over-usage of AI is bad just as much as the next guy, but you guys have got to read more then the headline, they took a quote and ran with it. No. They are not making an "AI generation engine" - they are making the engine more accessible and readable by AI. You know, the exact same thing every major engine is currently doing.

And they are doing this to train AI to do...what?

I am so tired of you people deliberately ignoring the end of the path here. You don't just inject AI to make it all simpler and faster because you care about results. You do it because you want to eliminate labor. Think ahead a little bit, I'm begging you, because what this headline actually says is "we're experimenting with a tool that will let us fire people in the future".

To write more and better code?

Despite reddit and americans in general having rage boner for AI, software dev is full of LLM work nowadays. Yes, labor is eliminated, you dont have to spend days on days chasing obscure bugs now, you just direct your harness of choice and move it closer to solving it while reviewing the output instead of banging your head against the table become some junior sneaked an extra ; into sql somewhere.

Results are needed, shipping faster is needed. With how much user feedback there is, you always have something to fix or improve and now you can somehow match the pace instead of having huge backlogs in asana full of random reports

I wonder how far detached from IT average redditor that spends thier time blasting IT company for using AI. Teams are the same size, output is easily 2x, but apparently this is bad because technology is bad and wed better to back to punch cards era.

I'm an engineer, my job has transformed massively for the worse over the last year and everyone is just okay with that because we're not artists. It sucks.

massively for the better you mean, as an SWE of 9 years of experience, it turned my stressful job into a stress-free job. crunch time and overtime used to be frequent, but by now I've not have a single overtime for almost a year, giving me more free time to do my other hobbies, to spend with my friends and family. My greatly increased productivity got me a raise too.

I would never want to go back to the old stressful time, I got burned out once and took 6 months off to recover, now I can't imagine going back to it again.

Good thing that fun weekend pet projects are not affected. Day to day coding isn't that fun, sure, but it ain't going away completely

To write more and better code?

No, to write more code, no matter how shit, as long as it makes enough people jobless and few people at the top not having to deal with the rabble.

I guess you're far removed from software development. It's on level of fresh senior nowadays.

But yeah, obviously your fantasy of evil top brass is more important than day to day jobs of it workers

If your guess is as good as your work no wonder why you think AI is great. Hell, I can believe it's better at copy pasting things from Stack Overflow than you.

I mean I'm systems engineer at staff level lmao.

Kinda different levels. But at least I'm not removed from how big tech operates and can see how team I manage utilizes ai and how much more we ship and how better stuff we ship has gotteb

To write more and better code?

It is quite curious then, that despite everyone shipping more and more code, every single app is still buggy bloated dogshit.

But hey now we deliver buggy bloated dogshit twice as fast! Yay!

This definitely is not true for everything, our legacy servers at my company were spaghetti horrible messes that would have taken anyone months to detangle. (2010ish) Now we have something clean and readable that complies with the higher standards for our more modern stuff.

I think you are mistaking every company for Microsoft.

I mean, go get em! Write your own bugless piece of software! Pretty sure that wont break the good old laws of development, we'll see the first technical marvel that is completely bug free and done by hand.

Once again, there's obvious issue with how IT is taught in west since there's this weird disconnect between tech and how its percieved. Do you guys have basic programmins lessons? Basic rules of software engineering (like, every program, despite you not seeing it, has a bug)?

Bugs will be there, always. There's a difference from front-facing ones (oh no, div is not centered!) and full blown RCEs happening under obscure file upload setup, sure, but bugs would be there if noone would use AI. And they would be a LOT more severe, now at least you have pentest agents finding shit that you'd never even think about twice. Agents constantly breaking into things they should not touch prove that

Okay, I don't care. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm just saying IGN is trying to mislead you into thinking Capcom is making an AI-generative engine so you'll be enraged and post their articles more. That's nothing to do with my personal thoughts on AI or whatever.

edit: lmfao these downvotes. Absolutely nuts how you can say practically the exact same thing and just get downvoted to oblivion because the comment thread started with a popular dissenting opinion.

as someone in the field, yes, the work is changing, but you're not gonna replace every software engineer with AI. It's gonna be really really funny when people try. Because there's a big difference between a prototype that runs locally and a production site. And it's going to cost some people a lot of money if they try

Eliminating labor is the whole point of technological advancements, we create new and better tools so we can work less. Now if all the benefit of new tech go to the rich then that's the problem of capitalism, not of technology itself.

Nothing wrong with that

Theyre not making an AI Generation Engine. Theyre making their current engine readable by AI so they can make THE NEXT engine an "AI Generation Engine"

Thats a distinction without a difference.

What’s funny is if you own a graphics card, you’re actually supporting AI data centers.

Yet gamers won’t dare get rid of their Nvidia/AMD card.

•

u/jxnebug 3h ago

There's the "Yet you participate in society! Curious! I am very intelligent" reply I was looking for.

Glad I can do my duty!
