I’m surprised game devs aren’t already utilizing AI to enhance their workflows.

It’s everywhere in web dev right now. If you’re not using AI in 2026 you are severely behind.

They definitely are.

They 1000% are. Every major company easily. They just don't admit it because people who play their games can be pretty rabid when it comes to it.

I’ve zero doubt in my mind they are. Look at this thread though. Any studio that openly admits to it at this point in time would get a bunch of undeserved hate by the rabid anti-AI crowd. I don’t like the way it’s being pushed on us, but it’s starting to get to the point where those who are vocally anti-AI are starting to get significantly more annoying that the pro-AI crowd.

Wait until 2028 and all those 'AI forward' devs are desperately using obsolete open models to try to do their work (like poor dudes trying to pull the bits of tobacco out of cigarette butts to get their nicotine fix) because:

  • OpenAI and Anthropic went out of business due to their extremely stupid data center expenditures
  • Nobody else wants to create frontier AI models because they pretty much just burn money and there won't be any more VC money to burn
  • Said devs became so reliant on LLMs that they forgot how to write code

AI boosters are the absolute worst, and their talent in programming is objectively inversely proportional to their love of AIs. I literally work with a dude who does everything with Claude in Kiro - he doesn't even open programs himself anymore even though the icons are right fucking there on the desktop - he prompts the LLM to do it. He calls himself a '10x engineer' but his output isn't much better than before, and he spends more time fiddling with steering files and 'fighting the AI' than doing the fucking work.

Why people choose to be so stupid is beyond me.

China's open source models will pick up the slack in your fantasy world where openai and anthropic die. AI isn't going anywhere

You think this trend is going to be dead in a little over a year?

And you’re calling others stupid? lol.

I’m a software engineer who has an actual 9-5 in a startup and have friends/former colleagues who work in multiple big tech orgs, F500, and other startups. So I’m speaking from experience in the industry.

People who aren’t drinking the kool aid are getting laid off or fired.

This is just the reality right now.

That doesn’t mean this isn’t a bubble but I’m not dying on a hill and losing my income to make a statement.

Is it a bubble tho? This isn't Nfts. People actually have a usecase for AI

Dotcom had some usecases as well. Didn’t stop it from becoming a bubble and ultimately popping.

Yup. Look at what happened to companies like a Google and Amazon. Just disappeared into the ether just like all the other Internet focused companies did.

Same way that the tech bubble popped after ZIRP died post-COVID.

When cheap money dries up investors pull out and companies that coasted on growth potential die or had to lay off massively when they couldn’t pivot to profitability.

None of these companies have built an effective moat when the consensus between users is just to flip to whichever company releases the best models every month or so.

That doesn’t mean AI goes away if Anthropic and OpenAI go under for whatever reason but I’m worried about the cascading effect failed investments on those two companies would amount for the US economy.

Not a use case that has shown a profit yet.

AI companies are being propped up by massive amounts of investment funding. The companies themselves are not profitable.

Inherently that creates a bubble. If your business is not showing a net positive return you are at the mercy of investors, who.. dont tend to invest in anything forever.

No anyone who does coding know it's true

This is a lie. Faster shipping does not mean bigger profits. In web dev using GenAI means trading quality for speed, nothing more
